Not sure I heard right on sen but it sounded like there was a chance Brown would stay at North. North have had some off-field happenings so they may be trying to mend fences with Brown and Polec. Whether that is correct or not, I haven't heard us mentioned re Brown of late. Yet, people on here seem to assume he is coming so its ok to offload TMac. Hope if the plan is Brown for TMac that he is signed up before we ship Tom off.

Extreme MFCSS by the poster. Can't see Christian dropping his standards. Player Managers align their player's contract with the FA year. Then it becomes a game of cat and mouse to see what the market is before player decides what to do so we may need to wait for 2 years. But if we are top 4 and contending for the premiership in the next 2 years I would expect Salem, Petracca, Brayshaw, Oliver, Weideman etc to sign up for longer terms regardless of FA.

How is that relevant? He signed his contract extension before the season started. Had a stellar year.

I briefly met your Uncle Hassa at the Bentleigh club when the premiership players had their 50th anniversary celebration. He stayed till every one who wanted a chat and an autograph had seen him. I thought he was delightful and nothing like the 74 year old he would have been at the time. I look forward to listening the whole sen interview.

I heard a bit of the interview on SEN to commemorate his 80th. The part I heard was about our tumultuous history. Hassa was there at the time of the big 3 upheavals: when Barassi left, was Captain when Smith was sacked (emotional story about that) and CEO at the time of the merger proposal. Can't find it on the sen website. The few minutes I heard were great to listen to.

I'm ok with Jack staying, not so much the five years. But does he have tickets on himself: “...and one of my reasons for staying is because he [Goodwin] needs support...I’m one of the people who really believes in his vision, and he needs some strong characters to stand up beside him. I feel like if I was to head somewhere else and end my time at the club, then I would be hanging him out to dry a bit. So he is saying there are those at the club that don't believe in Goodwin's vision and don't stand up beside him? Worrying. Goodwin has coaches, managers, a captain and other leaders yet it reads like Jack is the one that is propping Goodwin up! And, is this a crack at his team mates: "...Viney says the Demons’ midfield unit can be “something really special” if they play with a more selfless attitude."

Agree with most of this. Saints and Carlton may get burnt when it is time to put the finishing touches on their list. But by some accounts that is where we are now.

'stacks of cap space' and Brisbane "...is expected to be active in the trade period and boasts salary cap space to boot": Queensland a Destination state Not long ago they (and Carlton) were bottom four teams like us. Yet they all seem to have heaps of cap space yet ours is 'tight' according to a few on DL. How did it get to that - invested too much in too few, perhaps? It wouldn't be so bad if their performance was up to the level of their package: thinking TMac, Lever, Melksham...

But we aren't a great club and haven't been for more than half a century. There are few signs that we will be in the foreseeable future. Why should young men like Oliver and Petracca etc bust a gut to be the best they can be, hang around a club when many others don't and that has a sub-standard coaching panel. We have a handful of players doing the heavy lifting; the rest are along for the ride. Oliver isn't one of the latter. He consistently does more than his fair share.

She helped coach the AFLW team while pregnant with her twins and has held other positions at the club but left to focus on her game and the media. So we may need to wait a while to see where her career goes. One thing is for sure she loves the Dees - when they were setting the rules for marquis players at the start of the AFLW she told Gil that if she couldn't go to the Dees she wasn't playing.

Perhaps, but the person's well being and privacy and that of his family are paramount. The longer it stays out of mainstream media the better.

No pile on from me - Daisy is the best commentator by far. Have said in another thread, would love her as an assistant coach.

This true but if Bartlett and the Board are making the call they must think it is worthwhile to have Green or similar. Also, Bartlett is busy with a variety of President and Board responsibilities so having an experienced football person (and maybe a Football sub-committee) to evaluate football matters helps with his job.

A few clubs have ex players on their Board. Green won't be held accountable for the club's football performance. It is the Coach and GM Football that carry that. And, Boards don't have one person responsible for a specific portfolio. More often than not they chair or sit on the relevant sub-committee eg Governance, Finance, Football, Audit etc The sub-committees set the club strategy, sign off on key CEO recommendations, sign off on key appointments, delve into critical issues/problems etc

Getting Green and Yze back might be the beginning of Jnr Mc loving us again - maybe loving us enough to present the medal named in his honour at the BnF each year.

Have been asking for a Football Director on the Board for over two years. Last time we had one was Greg Healy. The club finally acknowledging a lack of football experience on the Board. Great appointment in concept and Green in the role.

Thanks for clarification. Still the words '...in our price range...' worry me. It points to poor sal cap management. I would have thought we would move heaven and earth to get forward help and trade out an asset if we needed to. I think Petty will be great and its good the club think highly of him. But he had one good game as a fwd when he kicked 3 and no defender paid him any attention. To me it smacks of the same blind faith we put in TMac on the back of 10-15 good games as a fwd.

Both clubs seem to have spent big and still have pots of dough to do so again this year without maxxing out their sal cap. I fear we throw around the big dollars to get/keep people at the club not just players but it has also been reported we paid big, big money to Richardson and to Burgess, altho the latter has paid his way. Buying signatures is not sustainable.

Its a sorry state of affairs if we have maxed out our sal cap with a long tail of 'journeymen' players and can't settle on a regular starting 22. Shows the folly of long-term and/or high cost player contracts who subsequently underperform (TMac, Melksham, and maybe Harmes, Lever and Tomlinson). Some can still redeem themselves but in the meantime it is a double whammy to list flexibility and sal cap. Sub-standard list and contract management.

Yes. At last we have an assistant who has completed the formal qualifications and has a lot of coaching experience, in a successful club. He is more qualified than the rest of our 4-5 person coaching panel put together. (Have excluded Goodwin for that comparison).

Delighted he is back! Why does the press release say ' joined the Club’s coaching panel for the 2021 season'. Just one year???? Same wording as the Burgess press release last year...
