GAMEDAY: Rd 20 v Gold Coast Part 2
The heart beats true replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I’d like to see Koz get around it more. He just needs to get that spring back in his step. When he’s feeling dangerous opposition clubs get so nervous, and it’s great to watch. -

Jack Viney no longer has any weapons. It used to be elite combativeness but the game has changed and that is now expected of midfielders. He’s in a world of trouble with his career at the moment. -
GAMEDAY: Rd 20 v Gold Coast Part 1

I’m intrigued to hear people defending the WA government here regarding the topic of games being played in Perth. Victoria has continued to allow games to be played even during lockdowns. I can’t see WA doing that at all. They make teams isolate for 7 days - which is absurdly ridiculous when we know that’s actually not long enough to quarantine against the virus. So what’s the point of it? It’s political grandstanding, because it sure ain’t about the science. I’m genuinely shocked the AFLPA has agreed to it as it’s the most pseudoscientific nonsense since the zodiac calendar. It’s 2 weeks or nothing. IMO all teams should move into a hub until the end of the season now, then break for 2 weeks for families, and then finals teams can hub again. Do it in Victoria, who have proven they’ll at least let the games go on - even during lockdowns. Clubs moving around is just making it more difficult for certain teams because of differences in restrictions, and the possibility of exposure. -

Gold Coast & West Coast Games Rescheduled

Surely we have been the most interrupted by CoVID: One of only 2 teams to play a game knowing the rest of the season is postponed. The only team to have had a game postponed because an opposition player tested positive to CoVID. The only team to travel for no reason, because a lockdown was called mid flight. And the only reason we can’t lose our [censored] about it to headquarters is because of CoVID we’ll need to put our hand out for the 800k+ we’ve lost in gate revenue. ? -

I like whatever ideas means we don’t have to go to WA. -

This is logical. Win or lose it won’t impact GCS finals chances, so integrity isn’t in question (anymore than it already is - which is a LOT) -

No because the training loads are based on consistency of performance. It’s a disaster for our preparation. -

We also have more grounds in Vic, which means the home team is able to pick their venue. -

Well I say Victoria hosts all games moving forward, as the government allows teams to play with no crowds even during a lockdown. The potential for this to severely disadvantage certain teams is what it is. The games get played, and it’s a bonus if fans are allowed in. This nonsense today is proof that any other plan isn’t going to work, with Queensland stuffing this up, and WA wanting to make it next to impossible. NSW is out for obvious reasons. SA is the only other state that can make an argument for anything. -
I’ve really rated him over the years. Something stinks about them this year, but the same could have been said about us in 2019. The difference is we traded well after 18 and got some spine about us. They don’t have any structure, and spent money on midfielders who haven’t delivered.

Sam Weideman re-signs until 2023
The heart beats true replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well that’s positive. I think Sam needs a chance to restart his career, and we need some opportunities to trade in midfield skill and pace. -

I can’t believe the Franklin ruling. That stinks. MRP is a joke.
-
Yeah, I was just teasing. I get it. ? I do think if we want to open up the ‘multi-verse’ theory of football we can’t stand behind stats to prove anything. The first bounce by the umpire opens up a million possibilities that are just multiplied out by millions with each passing second of play. So instead we have to accept the failed logic of ‘destiny’ - that what happened would have happened regardless, and in that case it doesn’t matter what universe I’m living in, I still just wish Ben Brown had kicked his [censored] goals.
-
Sorry, what? By its very literal definition the game would have been very different if some of those points were goals. So much so the result could have been different. ?
-
I don’t think they are conspiring to effect the results, but I think their biases do impact results. The AFL left behind the world of true equality sometime in about 1973 and since then we’ve been dealing in the much more lucrative world of ‘public opinion’. You only have to look at how the tribunal gets adjudicated to know that the league likes the ‘perception of fairness’ more than it’s ugly neighbour ‘the truth’. Or, as another example, everyone whinged about Joel Selwood for 10 years (and KB before him) and they literally changed the rules as a result. So, the more the AFL is aware of the fact they have a biase, the more they are inclined to fix it. I don’t need to make an argument to say the umpires favour the Bulldogs. The numbers are there in black and white. What we need is more awareness around it, as it has proven to be the solution.

Goodwin knew this in the post match interview and spoke to it. Interesting world football statistics. They’ve become so relevant because the media needs to fill slots from Monday to Friday. It’s frustrating that nobody wants to talk about the only 2 stats from that game that really mattered. 1. Both teams had as many scoring shots, and one was much more efficient, and 2. The bulldogs got 3 times as many free kicks as their opponent across the first 3 quarters of the game. That’s 12 times the ball was in dispute and ended up going forward for them. I think sometimes footy is that simple.
