If I was a player I’d vote for him as a rep. He’s never going to miss any opportunity to represent his own self interest (and as a by-product - yours).

Interesting concept. I’d say round 1 our best 22 had Jones, Jetta, Weideman, VDB and possibly Lockhart in it.

The way I see it is that it’s all about posturing for long term contributions, and clearly laying the cards out for the current clubs. Now that the options are on the table the AFL is about to ask the teams that come to them cap in hand after a financially disastrous 2021 if they’ll look at ‘options’ (moving to Tassie). They will all pretend to to do it, then say no, unless they can’t afford to. Once that happens the AFL can clearly say ‘so I’m assuming you’ll vote for the Tassie team to come into the league, since you want our money but also to maintain your identity’. (AFL commission laws say they need 12 out of 18 to vote yes). Then Gil will call the Premier in Tassie and quietly ask him how much he wants to secure his political future. They’ll pony up more money, and Tassie gets a team from about 2027-28. The only other thing that could bring this forward is Thursday night footy (now that everyone could have a bye) and the money that brings in. If the networks will pay much more for that then they could be in by 2025.

I consider myself to be neutral about the AFL (not the umpiring or scheduling). I actually think they are doing the right thing here. We are arguably not even half way through the worst pandemic of the last 100 years. The AFL has just issued new AFLW licenses to the last 4 clubs. Coaches at clubs are screaming out for help, and are very concerned about their mental health. The AFL is trying to reschedule a season on a day by day basis, just to keep from continuing to lose well over a million dollars a day. Im sorry Tasmania. You didn’t make a good argument 10 years ago, when the opportunity was really on the table. If you read the Carter report it states very clearly that this is a 100 year proposition for the state, and there are legitimate concerns about funding coming from political sources (which are fickle). It also states that there WILL be a team in Tasmanian. The timing might suck, but welcome to the world in the 2020’s. Risks are greater, and the appetite for them diminishes every day. You have to wait - because that’s logical at the moment. If it was my business I’d be waiting too. There’s too much at stake to mess around with now.

Has an outgoing coach ever heaped as much pressure on his successor than Clarko has to Mitchell? Jeff’s got egg all over his leathery mug, while Clarko contemplates multimillion dollar contracts from Carlton and Collingwood

I don’t how I missed seeing this, but that’s amazing! The red sand and the blue sky is such a brilliant take. The club needs to make Red Sand and Blue Sky merch. I’d be all over it. At all our home games the boys should run out to the song in a different language that represents one of our former or current players nations. We need to be the club that makes our indigenous history a part of our current culture, and this is a great way to do it. Well done to all involved.

Will Nathan Jones get a farewell game?
The heart beats true replied to Redbeard's topic in Melbourne Demons
No. We carried him to 300, and there’s no home town crowds to say goodbye anyways. He went into this year with full knowledge of what it was. We did the right thing by him, and now the club needs to move forward.- 282 replies

Jack Viney Suspended for 2 Weeks

I see Anderson is representing Toby Greene in his appeal. Expect it to be upgraded to a 6 week suspension. 🤦🏻♂️ -
What did he say?

Yeah but what about those of us that are unable to get both jabs in that time due to not meeting medical requirements? Younger people have stayed at home and done the right thing to protect older demographics, and it sends a a terrible message if they can’t go to things because they aren’t yet fully vaccinated through no fault of their own.

He’ll miraculously appear on the Eagles board in a few years, loyal servant that he is.

That bulldogs game was with no crowd. 🧐

I thought the umpiring on a Monday night was pretty even until the restart. That last 15 minutes I think there was 2-3 clear frees missed to us, while the Eagles seemed to get everything. In the end it didn’t impact the result which is all that matters really. The crowd noise suggests a lot to the umpires. I legitimately believe that had we had supporters at the Dogs game the umpires would have become aware of the discrepancy and thought twice before paying them more frees in the last. The crowd noise suggested to the umps on Monday that the Eagles were being short changed, and they began umpiring as such. Crowds make a huge difference to the psychology of decision making. You only need to watch any deliberate decision to realise that. If the crowd don’t utter a sound it doesn’t even enter the umpires thought process to pay a free kick.

How can one team AVERAGE 4 more free kicks than their opponent EVERY week? It’s not even like this is the first time it’s happened. https://www.sportingnews.com/au/amp/afl/news/a-procession-of-clubs-complain-to-afl-about-bulldogs-free-kicks-damien-barrett-western-dogs/3v04w7zxcsah14xx243jf8tzr

If we lose this weekend Marsh Community Series 2022 will be the Suns away in Wuhan, (and we’ll only be allowed to fly in on game day).
-
This decision was in keeping with the way that has been adjudicated all year - which I disagree with. They brought in a rule that you had to stand perfectly still on the mark to free the game up, but now players do everything they can to hold the ball up once a decision or mark has been paid. Why can’t the umpire say return the ball in 3,2,1 and if it’s not returned it’s 50. The game will then be freer, faster and more skilful.
-
He was great. My absolute favourite moment of last nights game was when Bowey got done for holding the ball and both May and Brayshaw made a point of running to him, helping him get up and telling him to keep taking the game on. I was very proud of the boys for that. That’s what gives me faith we are on the right track for the long haul.

Breaking News: AFL To Replay Matches
The heart beats true replied to Demonstone's topic in Melbourne Demons
What nobody knew at the time was that Jack Higgin’s girlfriend was hiding in that bag. -
Neither. Too slow. Our game is built on defensive pressure. I’d have Sparrow ahead of them both. Viney will come straight back in to, so unless we have a lot of injuries I think they are both well down the pecking order. I think we planned for a very wet night last night, and might have been surprised at how dry the game became in the 2nd quarter. VDB got the nod for the rain, and that reason alone.

Yesterday’s match Vs. Collingwood was just Clarko’s job interview. He gently reminded the Collingwood board that he’s still got a few tricks up his sleeve. Now the Blues board are sweating on Teague in the fear they’ll miss out on Clarkson. He’s a smart operator.

I lived in Perth for a while. It reminded me a lot of Melbourne in lockdown.🤣

Honestly, that will never happen again in football history. All that happened was the Eagles got a free hit. Up until then we absolutely controlled the game. I couldn’t be prouder of our club. We’ve had a horrible 9 days and responded with 2 wins. The boys should feel so good about what they’ve achieved. We kept at it, and just grinded. That’s what good teams do.
