POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
Should have added that of course we still have Casey and the AFLW to look forward to. Hope they can overcome the mood of despondency and gain some confidence.

POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
I did like a lot of comments in the thread. Disliked the loss and did like the effort of the players its a pity we didnt show that same endeavour last week and actually affect the make up of the finals. Beating Collingwood would have been a great bonus. After a season of disappointment I am still with many dlanders that there is much to look forward to. Sure we have to make some changes but I do not believe a wholesale cleanout is needed. I still maintain that better use of the squad to have the best team against the opponents would turn our results around . Resting players and exposing the second tier can be beneficial. Recognising that older players may need a different playing and recovering program, playing older stronger bodies against tougher sides, playing faster players against slower opponents and not expecting Trac to win every contest every game, HE is a burst player who can win Norm Smith style. Clarry has improved from a poor start but is an extractor and so valuable every other side wants him. Both must be kept and complement the next generation coming through. Viney cant be expected to play his physical impact style every week, he needs to be managed to play that role when needed . He has been a good player for us. May and Tmac could quite easily replace each other to manage their output, again matched up against specific opponents. our next generation can learn plenty from them. I of course hope we keep JUdd.. I like Langdon and hope he can keep up running on the wing. Windsor has so much upside Langford obviously could be anything. Culley has also shown a bit but like many of the squad may need to rotate back to VFL to refresh and build skills and confidence. I also like JVR but would like him to be schooled in more forward craft and used by the others in the team, Jeffo and Fritsch both play a similar game and can be rotated to get the best out of both. I do think that so much of the game is in the mind, Collingwood know they will receive ths best of umpiring decisions , get the soft ones and not penalised , Demon players know they will rarely get a soft free and certainly not in a close critical place. This not only produces confidence in the Pies but frustration and difficulty for our players. In saying that we got a good run from the umps for some of last night, very confusing. A few soft ones paid to pies at critical points and no soft ones paid to us in critical points. I could go on but life intervenes. I will continue to watch and enjoy other games, Our Beechworth boys have made the finals and have had some similar results based on injuries and being able to get the best side on the ground. EVeryone in the squad has supported the regular stars and have contributed to what could be an outstanding season. I cant see them tomorrow coz im playing intertown squash. WE will get smashed by a more talented bigger club bit we will field our best side all year and will have a great game and all improve. I will continue to support the DEEs and hope to see you all next season with revived hope and enthusiasm

GAMEDAY: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
Great work again GW and thanks for all your training and other comments. Your passion and enthusiasm are fantastic. I have attended a few more games than usual this year but cant do tonight. After enduring the smug attitudes of the hawk supporters last week I could not possibly face the pies supporters. They will outnumber us and will be unsufferable in victory or defeat. I congratulate any demon supporter who can stomach attending and wish them well. The only positive result I could see is that the dees come out a kick 10 goals a quarter and the pies scrape a few goals. the game is over at 3/4 time and the Pies supporters are on the train and gone by the final siren. Commentators spin that Collingwood were resting for the finals campaign and had no interest in playing at their best. they treated it as a captains run against a nothing opponent.

2025 MRO & Tribunal
Hopefully this case will encourage some players to "come out" and acknowledge their sexuality secure in the knowledge that it is an acceptable status. If this then leads to less of the disastrous impacts we have been told of this will be a great step. We can treat each other with respect as human beings with equal rights and more importantly feelings. It is easy to unwittingly offend it should be as easy to genuinely apologise and show remorse. This is a very complex issue and I acknowledge I do not have any golden bullet solution. I know that I have had and have a range of friends with a range of opinions, I accept and respect their opinions and actions. I learn and try to retain their friendships which are the most valuable thing. I will not make any further comments on this site on this issue but will continue to personally have much introspection to ensure I can be the best person I can.

2025 MRO & Tribunal
This is the can of worms the AFL has opened. I support them taking a stand on many social issues, Drugs, Racism, Homophobia, etc, but how they manage the fine to the crime is critical. AS many have said the comparison with ending a career by an illegal physical attack is an obvious issue. The impact of a physical contact is much easier to discern than a mental impact, but cannot now be ignored. I was being facetious when I suggested that two players conspire to claim an opponent made an offensive remark and they should self report. Such an issue is not as clear cut as aknee to the kidney or a slide int a contest, but could have an immeadiate distracting impact on a player Perhaps the AFL may have to institute a return to what happens on the field stays on the field practice. They can now supplement this with new technology and increased surveillance by umpires. As I said, I dont know but the can has certainly been opened. The Pies again gain an advantage if they end up playing Crows in the first final. Can our result this week affect that?

For Sydney Based D’Landers or Those in Sydney Late August or Mid September…
Not too much to say really, so sorry that you have the condition and congratulations for your approach. Music is the greatest antidote for most issues. One of my major regrets is not learning any music. I have accepted and embraced my role as an audience and have invested heavily in live music over my lifetime. The guitarist from the Saints that I revered was Ed Kueper, is he playing with you. Would love to hear him. Last saw him in Adelaide and thought it might be his last gig. He was anchored behind a keyboard and dispensed his musical ability fantastically.

VOTES: Rd 23 vs Hawthorn
This rating table shows us an undeniable fact that no player will be best on ground every week. Obviously not every player can get maximum votes, but Max shows that he can get votes regularly It reinforces a thought I have that it is up to the coach to recognise when a particular player is not going to or is not playing at their best. The coach needs to use the entire squad and play the player who is going to make the most impact in a particular game or against a particular opponent, Resting a player for a particular game or against a particular opponent can be beneficial for consistency. and maybe ebst votes arent that important as many impact players, big occasion players, match winners did not always votw wekk in many awards

PREGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
They can be reminded of their sensitivity to language. Perhaps line up next to your opponents and say me and my team mate heard you make an offensive remark. Youd better self report.

POSTGAME: Rd 23 vs Hawthorn
Not helped by the awful structures that meant Hawthorn had an extra player in defence all quarter. This was rectified a little bit but for the rest of the game but our predictable attacks meant that our target was always outmanned/ It was a bit perplexing

GRAND FINAL NIGHT by The Oracle
If you could be guaranteed that the players would turn up to provide a hard fought contest fairly overseen by umpires not influenced by the baying majority of supporters you might attend. The humiliation of last weeks effort and the condescending smugness of the Hawthorn supporters was bad enough but navigating a Collingwood dominated supporter crowd is just not worth it.

If Houston did jndeed make that comment. I would suggest that any response from Rankine using the word [censored] would relate to being bound and stacked on the stretcher. Ie Youll need the stretcheragain, Response Hope not i felt i was trussed up and treated like a [censored] of wood last time. This comment was caught by his teamates but the Collingwood players were fixated on only a brief exchange and could not comprehend the total sentance.

PREGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
Review by the MRO cites Pickett for reckless gathering of the ball, bans him for 12 weeks to attend spatial recognition and time space management training . MRO says Pickett should have anticipated that Collingwood players would of course perform heroic negating tactics and not attended the contest. His outthrust boot was reckless in its intent and the goal should not be allowed. Delayed Goal review processes allow the goal to be annulled and the victory be granted to the PIes.

So perfectly aligned to the highest qualities of our club

PREGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
Maynard goes to smother kick off Kozzies boot as Moore slides in and takes Kozzies legs out. AS he falls Kozzies boot connects with the ball which scores the winning goal. Maynards smother breaks Moores cheekbone while Moores slide fractures MAynards leg. While the stretchers come out the winning goal is confirmed and the siren sounds. Collingwood supporters accept the football acts and celebrate their heroes

2025 MRO & Tribunal
My question is how was the offending comment picked up. There isnt much difference between an expression [censored] and blurting out fuggit . The first term is certainly reprehensible and totally offensive the latter is now a common expression. Was the report the result of overhearing by Collingwood players or an enhanced audio pick up? I have expressed many times it is context and intent that are important, when growing up (while a child) the terms bastard and bugger were considered the highest insult. We were punished for using those words more severely than any other expletive. We have now seen Bugger ia an advertising slogan and the term bastard can be a term of endearment. It was only as I matured and discovered we had one of both in our family that the sensitivity to the terms became more relevant

Time to go Goody?
you are right but I would think that that is part of the coaches job and responsibility to make sure they get the best out of themselves . I agree its not the fault of one person but the coach also has the responsibility to communicate with others to get the resources to meet that requirement. Thatb is what the board is considering now I guess. For the sake of all I would hope that is communicated quickly.
-
Time to go Goody?
The coach has and bears the responsibility. It is the coach who developes and teaches structures and reactions. It is the coach who selects and inspires players. It is the coach who sets and monitors performance. It is the coach who must understand and communicate with players intimately and who must deliver rewards and penalties. It is the coach who must recognise individual performance and construct it into the performance of the whole. It isnt an easy job but if Goody gets the plaudits for 21 and he should , he must also be recognised for the faults peaking this season. He needs to publicly communicate this and take the heat of his players and provide a coherent response. I admit I have trouble myself but with time to focus soley on his job the coach should be able to construct an appropriate communication to fans and the public. I believe it can only be a resignation, but if he can make a statement in the presence of all the players and have them endorse his remarks particularly with outstanding performances for the rest of the season, I am happy to consider.

WOW pick a name, trade em out not only reduce salary pack to allow you to pick up an other uncertainty BUT Improve your opposition I have no real idea of whats going on but refuse to give these journalists looking to create headlines any space at all The club should come out and say We value and respect all our players, we have contracts we will honour. If a player comes to us like Jackson Hogan ANB we will respect them and force them to convince us why they want to leave. WE do not want to increase our opposition performance at the cost of our own. We have and will continue to invest in our players to return to our best. Continue discussion and if a player does not meet our needs we then discuss the best return for the club and the player.

Hey DD thats a great strategy. Why not give away a few other players so we become completely irrelevant. Or Perhaps w could refresh both "great talents' to inspire and lead the rest of the squad to perform to their ability . Place them all in the best positions on the field and opposed to suitable opponents and manage their workloads and fitness to win matches and achive team success. This will also result in individual success.

PREGAME: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
We will when Vineys body gets too battered and he retires. We can keep him longer by rotating with a similar tyoe. If you are saying we dont need a hard at the ball gatherer with inconsistent delivery.... That is another discussion.

PREGAME: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
I see Tholstrup as playing the Viney role. He should train similar to Vines and rotate week about with him to provide a chop out when Viney needs a longer rehabilitation and introduce Tholstrup to the A game. If we are in transition we should be playing the next generation against St Kilda with a core of experience to guide them. Trac Clarrie Kozzie and Max are true big game specialists and I would be ensuring they are cherry ripe for the Pies game. WE should be managing all players so that the best squad from the list is on the ground that day. Wether that means playing them into form or resting them to peak thats what should be done.
