  1. A good point, and that's the problem with and beauty of the game. Change one thing and you get another but it does seem a bit ridiculous watching players acting out their attempt or being totally pinned with no chance to make an attempt.
  2. I don't think you should have to make a genuine attempt, if you are caught with no opportunity then ball up. If you drag it in when you are on the ground then it is a free against.
  3. Me too mate, it's absolute garbage. The FD will need to employ an acting coach so all players can pretend to make a genuine attempt, whatever that is. If you have been caught and there is no prior opportunity it is ball up, simple really.
  4. It's always hard to make comparisons but to me he has a bit of Mitchell and Black about him. Neither quick across the ground but very quick hands and work hard in close. He will only get better with more game time and time under Roos and Stone.
  5. Ok, did he name Neeld when he made the statement about the game plan? or did he say the Melbourne game plan? or did he indicate the style of game he didn't want the players to play?
  6. ...and more often than not the player doing the sliding got the free. Watch this for rule of the week this week.
  7. Looks like you are having a bit of fun this morn 'rpfc'.
  8. No one wants to keep a lid on it but would like an accurate quote not an interpretation.
  9. I think in general we have a big problem with the "Evans/Campbell" led umpires in that they've now taken rule of the week to a ridiculous level. It's become a popularist approach driven by media outrage and it really needs to be about the rules not what everyones up in arms about this week. The first phase was the no rules throw the whistle away approach. Might only have needed to be out there to bounce the ball at the start and then let the game go. Then came the throwing the ball, that's all forgotten, you can throw it again now. The last couple of weeks it was taggers unfair tactics. All forgotten, do what you like again taggers. This week it was 15 metre kicks. What will it be next week. I reckon the sliding into players rule might get a run. The interpretation at the Geelong Richmond game today was just wrong on a few occasions, you can expect an over correction next week if the media jump on it. Pay what's there, be consistent and get it right most of the time is the best approach I reckon.
  10. So it was someone's interpretation of the Roos game plan putting words into Welsh's mouth? He didn't actually say the Roos game plan but was annoyed with them not taking the game on? That would make more sense, I couldn't understand him still being at Casey if he said what was reported.
  11. Mooney reckons Corey Enright was probably the worst kick he had seen when he first came to Geelong, he goes alright now. I think there is time for Terls and I don't think his kicking is as bad as some make out.
  12. It's and interesting one. He's definitely forward to help the structure but if Roos thinks he's on the way out it might also add to the decision.
  13. They drop it towards a teammate to advantage wherever possible.
  14. Yeah they do, they just let it drop loose and often. They get a slight knock and the ball drops free, their ball skills are not that bad.
  15. ...and allowed us to keep the rotations going. Not his best day but he did his job under trying conditions...injury.
  16. I don't agree, if they paid it you would have less scrums. It would have to go hand in hand with the prior opportunity rule. The player would need to keep possession of the ball rather than just dropping it out as they do now. It would have no incentive either way.
  17. I've seen it that way. Roos has said in the past he wouldn't play a player who was moving to another club and given our lack of size in the forward line through injury he is playing it smart and using him forward and building a solid defence at the same time.
  18. Occasional he has a bit of a brain fade with his disposal which I expect he will clean up with a bit more experience; seem to remember someone called Sam Mitchell doing the same early in his career.
  19. He (Neeld) certainly had a lot of things go against him but this is where his lack of experience was a liability. He added to the problems with poor response and knee jerk reaction. Roos hasn't exactly had the dream run with Clark retiring, Hogan looking as though he will miss the season and Frawley maybe on the move. He just takes it on board and goes about his business and is not railroaded into moves like dropping Watts where Neeld seemed to use him as a scapegoat nearly from day one.
  20. As I posted during the week when people were calling for Roos to make a statement by dropping Watts. Roos doesn't need to make a statement, his record as a player and coach is a statement. I guess in a way he made his own statement by sticking by his player.
  21. I want to see him play a full game too but I reckon Roos knows what he is doing so maybe not stupid.
  22. I haven't focussed much on him this season but last season he would pick and choose his contests and often leave teammates high and dry when he should have gone to assist. I couldn't imagine him getting away with this under Roos.
  23. 4.10 Adelaide time...4.40 fox footy for us.
  24. Yeah 'Machsy', I don't care what they do so long as they play good footy. I've seen some guys after a game with head held low with forlorn expressions who didn't put in on the field, gave nothing when it mattered. It seemed to be all for show, I'll look like I care if I look like I'm hurting. The actions are what matter; do they attack the contest, do they back up and support teammates, have they run as hard as they could all game. If the answers yes, then they can come off laughing as far as I'm concerned.
  25. ...and maybe he's playing within his limitations. His kicking style is not good but the end result is effective.
