  1. You keep saying this 'Matsuo' and I agree but how do you do it? You've not been able to answer apart from a motherhood statement...bring people together. The Obama speech you quoted earlier didn't help in their country. If anything race relations in the US under Trump are worse than they have been for a long time and as for the indigenous people there, well they've been decimated. At least we seem to be trying to do something. Maybe bringing the issue into the open helps, gets the issue on the table.
  2. Come on 'Matsuo' surely you can do something better than that. That kind of vibe???
  3. What would you have him say 'Matsuo'??? what could he have said that would have taken race relations forward and not kept the status quo at best? Put yourself in his position and give us an outline of the speech he should have made and the actions he should have taken.
  4. Serious question 'Fork'. I've seen a lot of people talk of unite...what actions do you see he could have done or words he could have spoken to unite? When you see a divided country and your people downtrodden what do you do? what should you do? ....and what was the anti Australian rhetoric he used? This is his Australia day acceptance speech by the way...seems inclusive and uniting to me but maybe I'm not reading it right. “It’s an honour to win an award for doing stuff that you love and that you believe in. For me, I chose that life is all about actions and interactions. I believe that our choices and how we interact with each other creates our relationships and this in turn creates the environment that we live in. Our environment shapes our communities which then shapes the country that we all live in. Growing up as an indigenous Australian I have experienced my fair share of racism. While it has been difficult a lot of the time, it has also taught me a lot and also shaped my values and what I believe in today. I believe racism is a community issue which we all need to address and that’s why racism stops with me. There are always two ways we can look at a situation. We can choose to get angry. Or not. We can choose to help others. Or not. Or choose to be offended. Or not. We can keep our silence or educate ourselves and others about racism and minority populations. It is not just about taking responsibility for your own actions but speaking to your mates when they take out their anger on their loved ones, minority groups or make racist remarks. It means treating people the way you want to be treated, whether that’s your manners, the way you talk to people, whether they are your loved ones or the person serving your dinner. It’s about how you choose to give back and make a difference to those around you, your community or your country that goes outside of just yourself. I believe we are all connected whether we like it or not. We are all equal and the same in so many ways. My hope is that we as a nation can break down the silos between races, break down those stereotypes of minority populations, indigenous populations and all other minority groups. I hope we can be proud of our heritage regardless of the colour of our skin and be proud to be Australian. I’m not here to tell you what to think, or how to act to raise your children. All I’m here to do is tell you about my experiences and hope you choose to be aware of your actions and interactions so that together we can eliminate racism. I’m so grateful for this award and this honour, however the real reward is when everyone is talking to their mates, to their families and their children, having those conversations and educating others about racism. What it looks like, how hurtful and how pointless it is and how we can eliminate it. The ultimate reward is when all Australians see each other as equals and treat each other as equals. To me, everything is about people and the choices we make. I believe it’s the people and the interactions between us that makes this country so special. Thank you so much and have a great Australia Day.”
  5. Come on mate, that's not an excuse for the booing that Goodes attracted. I hear the odd boo for Selwood and in some particular cases when he ducks for a free but not the systematic booing that Goodes got. There was much more to it.
  6. Unfortunately Gill blows with the wind, and it's an ill wind blowing on the back of the Goodes doco's... I'm not sure he's ever stood up for anything unless the numbers stack up and to me that's not what a leader is. The AFL is rudderless under his tenure.
  7. The world is a whole lot more complex than a Stallone movie 'Matsuo'... There are many shades and much nuance that goes into making a footballer let alone anyone else. That angry fullback Rance was involved in some new age soothsaying with the Tiges. They were lauded for their use of mindfulness. Those new age Tiges went on to win the flag. So honestly if you think sports psychology is summed up neatly by the "Rocky" franchise I think you might be barking up the wrong tree.
  8. Sam looking a particularly sensitive soul in this video. Danger says hello 'Matsuo'... I think he has enough grunt & ability, just needs the consistency. That usually comes with games & experience.
  9. Does he have the same ball drop in his field kicking? I'm not sure he does, but worth having a look at. If it's different then it should be easier to transfer his approach across...
  10. Agree, and then watching the replays even without the front on camera you could see that there was absolutely no change in the rotation of the ball. If the ball had of hit the post you would have noticed a change in it's rotation...
  11. I think we should get Weideman...bar Cameron, he's probably the best bet of the bunch.
  12. Felt the same mate but so far he's stepped up to the level and looks at home. We could have a good one here.
  13. I think the kid they will have coming in (Sier) might be a better bet than Beams at the moment, whose form line hasn't been great. Sier will have a lot of clubs chasing him in the off season if he can't nail down a permanent spot. Would suit us with Jones coming near the end.
  14. We can't manage him in the firsts... At Casey he can have long periods off the ground, he's more likely to get a soft tissue injury with the intensity at AFL level.
  15. Maclure is being hysterical...surprise. The Carlton list is in a good position and with the right coach will turn it around quickly. They don't need a major rebuild, just time, a good coach and a few targeted acquisitions.
  16. I would be waiting for Richardson...if the Saints offload him then we need to be in his ear. I hope we are already talking with his management.
  17. Hawthorn GWS at MCG 14k... Apart from some very long term Hawthorn supporters, and I reckon I could almost name & know them personally. Their membership numbers flatter them...they don't turn up when things aren't going well, at least we do. ...and we cop the snow BS.
  18. It would also reduce the crowd substantially. We have little to no support up there & they have less. Time to end the experiment...we don't make enough cash to throw away games like this.
  19. Agree, and then they added back another one... The hands in the back rule was made black & white but Hocking and the AFL decided to bring back all the grey. Now an umpire has to decide whether a player is holding his ground or pushing. One instance on Friday night had the commentary panel split down the middle as to whether it was a mark or should have been a free kick against...
  20. He's a very, very good footballer 'Ethan'...and has been for a long time. ...all this hard nut stuff does him a disservice.
  21. I watched this closely on the replay, his tackle numbers were inflated by gang tackles and another instance where the opposition player was stationary. He struggles to lay a good tackle one on one, and he gets exposed on this consistently. I see what I see. Apart from Hunt who seems to be our only lead up forward at the moment the others don't inspire either but it's hard to understand how Spargo came back into the team after being dropped and on no exposed form at Casey. We are struggling for numbers is probably the answer...but it's not the answer for keeping his place.
  22. If it means eating more pasta then I'm on board 'Diamond-Jim'... Forget the pirates, I'm off to make up a good sauce.
  23. I've posted similar before. Our set up in the forward half for centre bounces is way too congested & doesn't let us take full advantage of 666. We get around 15 to 20 seconds without numbers flooding back into our forward half yet we don't use the space to advantage. The one time we did open it out was in the last minute of the GC game because we needed to score quickly & we did. Now i know my thinking may be a bit simplistic but why don't we use this as our default set up rather than our current inefficient model that sees high inside 50 numbers with poor score conversion????
  24. I'm not sure if my posts are criticism or observation. They are my opinions...you don't like them and I don't really care. Sack the coach, please. No I don't want to sack the coach unless the club deems and he proves that he's no good. I hope and don't think we're at that stage yet... Goodwin is still a young coach, in his 3rd year. I don't know if he can or can't coach but what I do know is that young coaches take time to mature into the role. Part of that maturity process seems to be the ability to listen and take on board alternative views, to not stick with something that is not working. Thompson, Hardwick and Buckley have all been there and there was a point in their tenure where they were forced to change direction or they would have been out of a job. The greatest of the modern coaches Clarkson has changed time and again, continually reinventing himself and his team. As I've said elsewhere the writing was on the wall since the Prelim. Injuries of course haven't helped us but there also seems to be blind faith placed in a game plan that is not working. It didn't work last year against the best so it's no surprise it's not this year with an inferior team to execute it. Goodwin will have a stronger team around him next year and should be more consultative in his coaching. Our game plan will need to evolve. I think so far he's been stubbornly sticking to what he thinks will work... If he's smart he will learn his lessons well, if not he will be just another sacked coach.
  25. He kicked 4 in a JLT game and a lot of people are hanging his potential and ability on that... From someone who was a borderline player he now often gets mentioned in the same breath as some of the walk up starts & as best 22. I agree with you, he hasn't show anywhere near enough. I also have doubts as to whether he will.
