  1. You answered your own question! They are smart and have a very good business model. Hawthorn have only become a power in recent times. Prior to the 80's they were a struggling club. The 70's saw their rise, the 80's confirmed their strength, and recent times have embedded themselves for decades to come. They have a massive supporter base who now demand success, not hope for it. There was a time the Hawks wished to be a club like ours, the tables have turned.
  2. And James Hird lost his job yesterday. Thanks Caro! Your always right and always on the money! Utmost respect........
  3. Do you have anything positive to add to this BB?
  4. Why? Franklin leaving had little effect on the Hawks. IMO this means his compensation was right on the money.
  5. Blease has had many years to work on his weaknesses. Problem is they are so weak his strengths mean very little.
  6. I'm not sure if I agree with this. This holds up the clubs recruiting strategy. Robbie would not want his death to hinder the club!
  7. Then Swan and co need to shut f#%k up!
  8. Why haven't the Hawks put in the paperwork for Frawley? It was announced yesterday he was going to the hawks, why hasn't it gone thru already?
  9. I don't get the argument that Buddy is worth more than Frawley and the Hawks lost out. I also think the way compensation for clubs losing players is not looked at adequately. In reality, the loss of Buddy had little effect on Hawthorn. The won a premiership without him. The loss of Frawley has on the Demons will be greater as the club as we don't have 22 AFL quality players. Yes, Buddy is a better player, but his effect on Hawthorn was neutral. Time to change the narrative around compensation. It should be looked at how a player will effect the team. Bottom clubs losing players should be compensated more than top clubs losing players. Maybe this way, this can counter act how Free Agency works completely against 'Equalisation'!
  10. The request was for money not priority picks IMO. The only way this club can compete is via free agency and/or trades. We need to inject some AFL quality players and/or top player/s (ie Danger or equivalent).
  11. I think your forgetting the Neeld factor. His coaching really impacted Trenners ability.
  12. If this is the case it's another case of the rich raping the poor once again. The AFL is becoming the EPL/European Football. The only thing is that has killed this club from becoming a power is timing. Imagine if this was the 60's. The Hawks would be the equivalent of Southampton and MFC, Barcelona
  13. If that were the case, the the Mods (including you Nasher) need to deleted 99.5% of posts. I thought this was an opinion based site. Mostly subjective, partly objective
  14. GNF responsible for the behaviours of posters in here?? Can't be serious!!
  15. I think MC's doctor isn't aware of the diagnosis MFCSS! As a large group of ppl I would think we could provide 'peer support' groups/program's, and be an empathetic group of ppl assisting Mitch's mental needs. We could be very good for MC. Not that this thread s a very good of example of a supportive environment. But, you need to understand anxiety and how that can change behaviours.
  16. Let's no get this out of proportion and bring in very topical issues into the argument here. I agree with a lot of what your saying Moonshadow. I too experience a lot of this in an era that was more difficult than what it is today. I feel I could speak about this on behalf the gay community too. I also understand that my experience isn't the same as every gay male or female. But many would relate to my story. The good doctor John dee and bing181 took offence on my wording particularly with saying 'my community'. Well it is my community! The argument gets stretch out that I should not speak on behalf of the whole gay community. Well, that's just plain stupidity to think I was. But to bring it back to what this thread is about, HL has a tendency to put many ppl off by being way too sensitive and taking politically correctness too far. If he wants to be the voice of the gay community then he needs to engage ppl rather than attacking them. That poster does not lend itself to homophobia IMO. In fact the Collingwood FC have been leaders in this area and should commended for their Community work particularly on Gay issues.
  17. Actually I do have the right to speak on behalf of my community. I can call it my community as I am very much a part of it. The fact is 'gay culture' is very much about taking the [censored] out of sexuality. It ain't all about that, but it's very much is there all to see. Does dr John Dee have the right to question me, sure he does. But he can't question my experience.
  18. I don't ham it up is what I meant, I thought that was obvious. I also don't swear in front of her (In other words ham it up). I thinks that's a fairly generic term that I hope you understand. Your not attacking me coz I outed myself in this thread? Coz that would be wrong and I would take HL like offence to that.....
  19. In fact, my sexuality has been on the end of some very inappropriate jokes in the workplace, and I have used inappropriate comments about heterosexuality. It's all part of the fun at laughing at and with myself and others. No one is getting hurt. No one is fearful, nor are they angry. I work with a Muslim lady, who has very strong homophobic views. We don't talk about them but we know they are there. We get along really well and through just being me, she is learning a lot about the gay community. She now realises that gay men are normal and harmless. On the flip side, I don't flaunt any overt gay behaviour or discussion her way. I respect her faith and culture to much to do that. If I went down the HL pathway of defending gay rights, I would just reinforce any fixed and uneducated views my Muslim colleague has or had. The best way to break down social stigmas is via engaging people. Not putting them off side.
  20. Time to get off your Soap Box Dr! Not sure why HL seems to think that the gay community needs his assistance? Maybe he is pink suede himself. As a out and very proud gay man I'm offended by HL's behaviour. Lighten up FFS. Gone are the days that the Gay Community need to fight every battle to get acceptance in mainstream society. We have moved past that school boy banter and have moved onto more pressing issues such as rights for Civil Union, rights to parenthood etc etc. Me and my community use this kind of humour on a daily basis. Why? Coz it's funny.
  21. The fall out from the Buddy deal is yet to happen at the Swans. Buddy is on less money this year and his payments go up from next season. With losing the COLA in coming years the Swans will have to lose more than Mitchell. Malceski is one who is a already forced out and I would think Mitchell and Reid are others that are surplus to the Swans needs. Having said that, Goodes is one who will free up player payments. IMO Roos is well aware of the situation and is ready to pounce. We may not get who I hope (Reid and Mitchell), but I see Roos and co circling like vultures. I would think Roos will go after Swans players as they come from an excellent culture and understand the defensive of the game that he wants. I would also think that the Swans will be happy to bargain with Roos. His standing in The game is much higher in Syndey.
  22. Look again HH? :-)
