  1. He's 90% of the way to being a really good player now that he seems to be over those injury issues that plagued him for a few years. He just needs to get those last few dumb things out of his system, such as trying to break through packs or taking on quicker players.
  2. The kid can clearly play, but I hope he doesn't become one of those utility types who is good at a lot of things but not elite in any respect. The next couple of years of development are going to be crucial. I'm not convinced he's a key forward and he's not big or strong enough to be a full time ruckman. That probably leaves him as a midfielder, possibly on the wing where he could be a huge asset if his two way running is good enough to see him fill a hole at one end and then provide a target at the other.
  3. Baby sized steps forward in 2020 from a very low base for a player who is massively overrated and massively overpaid. We're in real trouble if May misses games in 2021 and Lever is forced to be accountable against bigger and stronger players.
  4. Happy with this - there are significant questions around all of our proposed tall forward options, and depth in these positions is essential.

Really disappointed with this decision. I like Oscar as a player and think he has been harshly treated by the coaching staff over the past two years. Both Frost and McDonald are now gone from the defence that took us to a preliminary final, and the star replacements have, far from improving us, actually made us worse. We are now critically light on for genuine key defenders and are now only an injury to May away from having Lever and Smith / Hore in the key defensive posts. That is a huge concern to me, particularly when you consider what the twin towers at Geelong, Richmond or West Coast could do against such feeble opposition. I wish Oscar well, and hope that he can find a new club as a delisted free agent. I suspect there are plenty of clubs out there looking for a ready made defender on the cheap.
  6. Really impressive first season at the club. Looks to have a very good attitude and hopefully has another couple of levels to lift his game further.
  7. I'm all for him getting paid his entitlements and getting the support he needs from the club, but it is an absolute disgrace that he is still on the list. St Kilda came to an arrangement with McCartin, surely we can do the same with Kolodjashnij. With list sizes shrinking, we can't afford to be carrying players like he and Nietschke who can't contribute.
  8. Good on him for turning things around after a poor 2019 and start to 2020. His form in 2017 was brilliant, and this was the closest he has come to that level since. The 1 year extension was the correct call, and he may well get another one if he performs well this year.
  9. Very, very good player, who has the ability to be a superstar if he gets his kicking right. Signing him up on a long term deal in the very near future is an absolute must.
  10. Would Bedford have even been drafted if he wasn't linked to us through the next gen academy? Two years on he has shown next to nothing and would be very fortunate to get another contract. The two mediocre games at AFL level are not especially the concern, its the lack of impact in the VFL in 2019 that worries me most. I just don't think he has the tools to be a good player at this level.
  11. How does 25 possibly equal 31 + 43? Should be closer to pick 20 under any metric. We are dead set kidding ourselves if taking two live picks in this draft is anywhere near enough.
  12. Represents everything that is wrong with this side under Goodwin. A highly talented player who only plays when it suits him. Lacks discipline, won't defend or tackle and goes missing for weeks on end. He should have been dropped on multiple occasions, and the fact that he wasn't sends an awful message to his teammates. Making him captain made a mockery of the role. A four year deal was highly excessive for a player who needs to be motivated every step of the way. If there was any interest, I would trade him for a packet of chips in a heartbeat.
  13. Unfortunately hasn't improved since his first year, and has probably become more consistently inconsistent than he was when he started. I wish him well at the Bulldogs, but his one good game in five is hardly going to be a big loss for us.
  14. Just a player, as he was at the Giants. I'm okay with him being in the bottom 4 on the team sheet each week as you have a fair idea what he will deliver, but that type of player does not warrant a four year contract.
  15. Thankfully Gawn has been fairly resilient over the past two years, because Preuss has missed too many games to be a reliable back up. He has been serviceable when available, but nothing more. I wish him well at GWS, but hope that pick 31 serves us better.
  16. Heading into the final year of a ridiculous three year deal, and at almost 29, Vandenberg would want to improve significantly to earn another contract. Yes, he runs hard at the ball and tackles well, but his disposal and decision making are well below par, and he doesn't kick enough goals for someone playing mostly in the forward half. At least he seems to have gotten over the worst of his injury issues.
  17. There are others I'd cut first, but it doesn't bode well that he hasn't come close to a senior game over his two years on the list. Doesn't seem to have that stand out trait that will set him above the pack. Maybe a one year contract, if our draft position doesn't improve.
  18. There is probably not much to add that hasn't been said in the trade thread. No doubt a disappointing year, but I rate him and I will back his ability to return to his best form as a mobile centre half forward.
  19. An underwhelming presence inside forward 50 for much of the season. Ability is not an issue, desire and confidence certainly are. Doesn't get to enough contests, doesn't impact those that he does get to often enough, and misses too many easy goals. We have been patient, but he is no longer a young, developing player. The impending arrival of Ben Brown is a real concern for me, as I see he and Weideman as very similar players who will want to be operating in the same parts of the ground. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Weideman head to defence at some stage in his career, perhaps as soon as this year.
  20. A very impressive young player, arguably the most impressive of our three draftees from last year.
  21. At least five of whom should be delisted immediately because they simply aren't up to it. We have a major shortage of promising young midfielders and key position players, as a result of not taking enough first and round draft picks in the past five years..
  22. I have no idea why we bother with this crap each year. If we hadn't traded out a bunch of future picks last year (the Frost trade is exhibit 1), we wouldn't be madly trying to get more picks in this year. It all feels like Mahoney trying to justify his existence over and over again.

According to the club website, O'Dea, Newman and co are still at the club. It's only been three months since the trade period - you'd think someone could find a few minutes to update the website in that time. https://www.melbournefc.com.au/teams/aflw
  24. A speculative late selection who can't get on the park. I can't believe we are seriously contemplating giving him a year on the rookie list, particularly after taking Rivers to fill the same position last year. It's unfortunate for him, but some things just aren't meant to be.
  25. He is a tease. His best games are very good, but they are surrounded by far too many poor ones. Six games for the year, averaging less than six disposals, is a poor return for a bloke in his seventh season. Very lucky to get a two year contract.
