Depth is the big word and improving our flexibility against different opposition. 3 KPDs needed round 1 to free up Maxy so he won't have to play that floating defensive role. Port will have 3 of Dixon, Westhoff, Lycett, Marshall or Ryder playing forward at various times depending on which of those 5 are left out. Jones is a great warrior and a club legend but has his limitations. Petracca was only coming of a knee in 2016 and whilst Brayshaw showed promise he was nowhere near the level in 2016 he was this season and in 2017 getting his concussions sorted was a big concern. As I said with my side they are 2 years behind where we are all of Simpson Kruezer and Murphy are gone from my side. Cripps is the best mid in the comp, Kennedy is also a big bodied ball winner who not unlike Trac and Brayshaw just needs to get his body right. They have the spine which is the most difficult part to put together now in drafting Walsh and Stocker they are showing they are putting their midfield together. Put the 3 older players back in that side and consider them for next season not as a top 8 contender but not a side you would want to take lightly

Carlton are 2 years behind us and have built very well, 2020 onwards they come into top 8 contention. Spine is all there 40 games more into their young nucleus and they'll pick up another ruckman and a few other pieces when Murphy Kruzear and Simpson retire to fill the holes. The amount of work Trac put in leading up to and during his draft year was huge. It wasn't a case of I'll get by on my natural talent. He reinvented himself, but now just finding out there are some who are just endurance freaks playing at the highest level

They remind me a lot of Port in the early 2000s, I expected them to make the 8 and steam roll teams on the fast track at Etihad, but felt come September when the tough hard contested footy was required they'd be found out. They lack midfield bulls IMO. On their day they are going to be hard to beat but still think beating them at the contest will be what a lot of sides set their gameplan around. With regard to Woosha he aint past it, he never had it. Fantastic motivator and a real come with me boys I'll run through brick walls for you type, but he is and has always been tactically inept

Don't think they have to have the post Anzac games this year as there will be a minimum 8/9 day break for us and the Tigers, although they may look to a Friday night Pies v Tiger or Dees vs Bombers the post Anzac round. With us and Tigers playing on Anzac eve it would make more sense(which the AFL fixturing never uses) to have one of us and the Tigers playing Good Friday eve and one on Good Friday.
