Players to target at the end of the year
Pennant St Dee replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the horses mouth wold know how to spell their name correctly -
Who cares honestly the draft has not saved us, finish as high as we can and take the best player available. It's about building a winning culture

FFS possible successors are all currently still contracted at other clubs with at least 5 games left to go before their seasons end. This is not a vacant coaching position where they have interviews and the new coach is announced forcing his former employers to sever ties. Pretty sure there will be things happening behind the scenes Come seasons end I would expect the successor to be announced

Cameron, Shiel, Treloar and 2 of those 3 would make me very happy -
GOODBYE MR. CHIP FRAWLEY
Pennant St Dee replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would rather keep a committed 2010 Frawley than get Pick 5 for him. He is just entering his prime and will be an asset to any team -

Don't forget Dane Swan line them all up in sillouhette and who would you pick as the least likely to have a tank, basing your decision on his physical appearance -
Players to target at the end of the year
Pennant St Dee replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Machsy only seen him once against WA and it was good that day plenty of repeat efforts, I have no doubt whatever his tank is now it will improve because what I saw was a player who wants to succeed, wants to get the best out of himself, will sacrifice and will find the extra something inside to get to the contest. This is what stood out and what I liked, they all look good at U/18 level, less applied or implied pressure at the ball carrier and their foot skills, decision making and efficiency can look better than it is. Important boxes ticked by Petracca in regard to what is required at the next level -

He wont commit to being a full time head coach beyond 3 which is a 24/7 gig, but probably open to a job as director football or something similar

GOODBYE MR. CHIP FRAWLEY
Pennant St Dee replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
This isn't shopping in Bali. If he wants to stay here is a 3 year contract if you want 4 okay we will look at it but the annual figure will be less -
Totally agree with this comment and it is the reason we are coming from so far back. It is also where I see our improvement coming from we have improved greatly in this area but still switch off mentally during games which costs us. Another pre-season, full season of this being drilled into them will see the basics becoming second nature. It will be the expected standard and all new players coming into the club will be expected to conform to get games in the seniors. It is what happens at other top clubs

10 things to see/do in the last 5 games
Pennant St Dee replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
1.Four quarter effort by the boys in all 5 of our remaining games and finishing out of the bottom 4 2.At least 2 more wins, hopefully more. GWS, Brissy I demand, but bring effort and the right attitude and Meth Coast and North are gettable 3.Daniel Cross back to provide some leadership, midfield depth and a cool head (would have been worth his weight in gold in the last 5 minutes yesterday) 4.Kent, Blease and JKH providing the much needed line breaking run coupled with continuous team ethos cementing their spots in the side, providing us with some x-factor 5.No serious injuries to any of our players 6.Hogan getting fit and making his debut and hopefully 2/3 games into him, providing us with another forward option on top of showing why he was so highly sought after 7.Jamar continuing his return to form and providing us with first use of the ball, a good run home for him as crazy as it seems would not rule out a spot in at least the AA 40 man squad, Jacobs is the standout and Lobbe next best but dropping off over the last few weeks 8. Dunn and Jetta continuing their good seasons and earning AA squad selections at least 9. Roos making an announcement during a press conference after a win that he will be extending his contract for at least 1 more season. 10.Frawley agreeing to stay at the Dees for less money than offered at opposition clubs and openly stating the club is headed in the right direction -
Yesterday wasn't a loss due to Port running out the game better than us, as Old Dee has said it was down to skill errors. Grimes copped a lot for the out of bounds but the game was littered with basic skill and fundamental errors in not being switched on Mckenzie and Riley missing easy shots in the first quarter Wingards first quarter mark leaving a difficult shot from the pocket, handpass to an unmanned Westhoff in the goal square - Unforgivable Jones playing on and running into the wall of Port players with the game in the balance Jack Watts not going 100% in the first quarter with Robbie Gray for a disputed ball which resulted in a goal I'm sure I could dissect the game properly and find many more but there is a 24 point turnaround in the result, by just doing the basics. None of those I have named I would consider young players of them all Riley lacks games experience

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 18
Pennant St Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6.Tyson - back to what he was doing earlier in the season, BOG today in a losing side, worth Pick 2 alone 5.Jetta - got the better of Wingard again who is one of many who Jetta has got the better of this season 4.Jamar - beat Lobbe but also imposed himself around the ground, 3. Garland - best game for the season and used the ball well setting up rebounds from defence 2.N.Jones - after a slow start broke free from Cornes and had influence on our clearance wins 1. Can't separate Viney & Frawley both had quality games today JV is going to be very special and influential for us for many years and only some bad finishing sees Chip this low down in the votes Watts, Bail and Dunny can all be considered unlucky amongst others who all put in today and executed the game plan -
Sorry Old Dee it was a bit tongue in cheek. But you see very little improvement in us this year which is very pessimistic As I said on another post you can not compare results between two other sides Adelaide belted GWS Richmond belted GWS & Saints Carlton lost to the Cats by a few points Essendon got within 3 points of Hawthorn and beat Port Adelaide at home, made the Pies look second rate last week It's never ending if you go through all the results
-
And we beat Adelaide on their home ground and Adelaide belted GWS, we beat Richmond who beat GWS and Saints Don't send yourself over the edge trying to compare results

Depending on Frawley leaving and possible compo, 1 for today and 1 for tomorrow, trade 1 and keep 1. You never know another Tyson like deal sees us with two first round picks and one definite ready to go. That would IMO be a very good outcome

Old Dee is beyond help, in the words of John Candy "wouldn't know a good time if it fell through the rood and wiggled on his face"

I think we are all damaged as a result of 2007-14

What's your thoughts on Salem, IMO he is a good pick. I think a lot need to stop comparing the new regime with the post 2013 regime

Blakely will not be available in the second round, standout for WA through the championships which says a lot about his makeup playing in such a poor side. Overtook Walsh & Waterman as WA'S best mid. His stocks are rising fast and with Swans entrenched in the WAFL top 2 a good run in the seniors for the rest of the season could see him possibly go top 10. Has been named in their seniors for tomorrow's game against Claremont

Do the stats include people watching Soccer from overseas, there is a lot of access to it now with ESPN, FOX, Setanta, SBS. There are a lot more people playing soccer now than there was 20 years ago. Auskick is getting lots of kids playing which makes participation numbers look very good but they drop off drastically by the time the kids are 12/13. AFL has to be careful not to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. Crowds are down, people I have spoken to have had enough, economic downturn means less money spend, the prices at games, the expansion sides spreading the talent so thin, Asada etc etc. But the scheduling of games to suit TV seems to be the big issue of those who used to attend regulalry

Neitz, Junior and don't underestimate Millers leadership qualities off field. The problem was it was left to too few and as for rose coloured glasses if you review my posts over the years you will see my criticism of Danners for failing to turn the list over enough and relying on those who let him down so often when they needed to stand up. The comment was more made as to amplify the importance of older wiser players to assist younger players. It's why the younger players at the Cats, Hawks and Swans look so polished

Players to target at the end of the year
Pennant St Dee replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
No chance, captain of the biggest club in the country, we can not offer his what he has there, his off field future is made for him at the Pies, Premiership Player, Norm Smith medallist whilst they have taken a step back this season they still have drafted very well looking at 2015 and beyond. I'd love to get him but he would be crazy to move and IMO would not even consider it
