  1. Glad to see him sign on for another 3 years. I never had a problem with his comment about seeing what's happening at the club before committing to the club, the upheaval has been huge for us as supporters in the last few years, it would be worse in many ways for players. It's not as if his manager was shopping him around in the media like Dustin Martin's was, I think Watts just delayed the decision until he got a clearer idea from PJ on what happened, then Roos has spoken to him, sold him the message, and I'm hoping he can build and improve from here. Am hoping that Sylvia will re-sign too (He's travelling overseas isn't he?) Roos needs to be able to sell the message to him also, as like it or not we can't afford to lose any experience from the club, or from the midfield.
  2. mmmm Pie!!!
  3. Gut feel is that unless we get a mid first round pick from somewhere, pick 2 is overs, and he won't be there by the next pick. I think our club would be stupid to not consider him with appropriate due diligence (which they do for all players)
  4. I think GWS and maybe GC have activated concession picks which occur at the end of the first round.
  5. Didnt Colless retire from his position? threatening legal action when he isn't part of the club.... or very soon will not be smacks a little of Kennett IMO. Can't really bear to be out of the spotlight.
  6. I'm confused about that academy program with Lloyd Perris... if he is as good as they are claiming he is, why would ANY CLUB allow the swans to take this player with their last pick of the draft? To me that just sounds bloody crazy. A player as good as Kieran Jack (potentially) why wouldn't he be considered a monty for a pick in the first 2 rounds of the draft? Surely there is something here I am missing? Its starting to feel nice being despised as a club rather than pitied.
  7. So, curious as to how does that decision get made prior to the commission actually meeting next Monday? Very glad I realised that we are in the Trade/Draft Rumour page... for a moment I thought I was in the recruiting fact thread.
  8. Doesn't really have to know anything to make that statement RR. It's a pretty safe assumption that all clubs will do what they think is best for their club.
  9. Trade period will tell us a bit about the chances of our club and others.. if Roos assists the club in landing some players then we could snag some wins in 2014... Conversely, the Saints and Lions could lose a few players and I suspect will be in for a painful year. Collingwood is the other team I am interested in looking at for next year with the reported 'clean out'...
  10. Anyone else see this article? Wonder if someone was taking the Pi$$ or it's an unfortunate coincidence. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-09-13/no-deal-on-reid-demetriou?utm_medium=RSS AFL might need to be getting a please explain from the umpire in the background
  11. I agree Redleg, I actually think that its a positive thing that Jack has tested the market (as such) and has chosen to stay loyal to us. It says a fair bit about the direction PJ and Roos have put the club upon, and hopefully if we get Sylvia signing too. Bit different than this time last year when we lost/let go several players and most seemed pretty disillusioned. Compare this to what is going on with Brisbane and their players all apparently wanting to leave, do any of us feel remorse/regret for their players given they have no coach, a board in crisis etc. ... if any of you are like me, you are hoping that there is a way we might be able to snag one of their players.
  12. I might be wrong, but I thought that PJ made a comment along the lines that we might re-evaluate who we put in as GMFO now that we have secured Roos. I got the feeling that he was indicating that we might not need to get someone like Walsh with Roos there... it could have been a misinterpretation on my behalf. Edit: I think he said it in the Presser where they announced Roos btw.
  13. I'd happily do pick 2 for Sloane, we'd probably want to get a little more something like their 2nd round pick in exchange for our 3rd or something... dunno.
  14. It's ok I'll share Strauss with you if you want. .... after all it looks like me taking him forced you to step a little further into 'Outrageous' than you perhaps needed to
  15. Strauss to play every game next year and top 5 in the B&F
  16. Why do either need to ruck solo. From my reckoning Will Minson is the only solo ruckman actually doing it competently, each team really needs two rucks out there. Sydney seems to have 3-4 options...
  17. TBH, I think Spencer, Gawn and Fitzy are our future, and don't really think the MFC requires either.
  18. one interesting side effect regarding the PP is that we would basically lose Aish to GWS by them getting pick 2 instead of 3, that being the case who would be the next best midfielder that we would be looking at? But I guess with Roos putting that pick on the table possibly anyway I don't think we would make use of it. I think our best chance of geting some midfielders is going to come from Adelaide and West Coast. Perhaps with Worsfold resigning we might be able to get Gaff, Shuey or Selwood if we offer something attractive enough. (Pick 3) plus whatever loose change is required to get the job done. Adelaide I suspect might be interested in Boyd and pick 1... and with Sloane a possibility. Such a trade might need to occur with another club coming in to facilitate with other options to make the deal work though. Dogs and Saints don't really have enough to offer as far as midfielders (I am not saying there isn't quality there, just that they are probably in a similar position to us in that they don't have deep midfields either) Collingwood & Gold Coast might be other possibilities.
  19. Remember Essendon traditionally have been terrible to deal with through trade week as well!
  20. True,... good luck to the club that takes on a player that thinks like that though :D
  21. I've heard / seen rumours about him verbally committing to Carlton, but the Roos announcement would shake things up, and there is no commitment that can bind him to another team whilst he is still contracted to us.
  22. Didn't clean up as such, but had Roos a month or two ago at $3.25 ish?? .... just put it all on a footy quaddie for the favorites to win this week int he finals whilst I'm on a high!
  23. Michael O'Loughlin, first indigenous senior coach of an AFL team. Bit left field but I'll put it out there.
  24. Just quietly I reckon Daniel Cross could be happy by the appointment of Roos, I can see clubs like Brisbane, Adelaide, Collingwood, Freo and Western Bulldogs all very interested in talking to us in regards to pick 1. All at various times this year have struggled with their forward structures... We potentially have Tom Boyd on the table, come and give us your best offer for him. I'd be suprised if that didn't net us something special.
  25. That must mean that a senior assistant is coming along with him in some form you would imagine.
