GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Western Bulldogs
Demon Dynasty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hunt immediately tackled no prior...yet HTB. One of our boys yells out "No prior". The ump's response... "Doesn't matter!". And the League wonders why the umps are being targeted lol. -

Was holding the man. The AFL needs its key Marvel tenants winning. -

Soft hands Harmes he was 3 feet away lol. How was that NOT holding the ball on the flank there. Clearly dragged it in and made NO attempt -

Hunt must have a decent conversion % on set shots vs most of his team mates up forward -

Bont v Clarry at the opening bounce -
GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Western Bulldogs
Demon Dynasty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
They still have the Bont if we can't lock him out sufficiently. We do play this ground better than most other grounds now but i fear the injury gods have crueled us too many times too often now to think we won't be effected in matches like today. Injuries and last week's 2nd best game for the year aside, our forward set up / personel is still as poor as it gets and we are still very skilled giving the opp way too many easy turnovers. The better teams will cruel us on those and the mediocre ones like the dogs will probably do enough to beat us on the day. Never been able to put more than one win together other than the Hawks/GC rounds and we know how bad the GC are going. Confidence and belief can't be great within the four walls right now. We do have Clarry though. Can win a game off his own boot if he plays clean and smart like he did last week so we just might sneak in another cheeky victory if everyone turns up and plays four quarters. -
Footscray v Casey Demons - Round 15
Demon Dynasty replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Forward options non-existent. Especially tall strong marking options. Our list forward of centre at Casey is being crunched from all the injuries/poor form up top at the moment. Add to that some really ordinary decision making and entries inside 50 from mids & HHFs and you have a seconds team that very much reflects the woes of the seniors, with some of the worst conversion % on inside 50 dominance you could ever imagine. The list needs a solid clean out with class on the outside mid field, Key talls who can pack/overhead mark and finish. And a few quality speedster crumbers who know where the goals are. Get used to more of the same wasted inside 50 dominance in 2020 and a waste of some decent talent remaining within the present list if "The Fix" doesn"t take place. -
Hope you're getting the same coin Chook!

Have it on good authority that PF's already on the short list!

Bin while i can see the pros and cons for that i would much rather see ourselves fatigued and in the process maintaining possession more often, than the chaos style we tend to play for far too long where we often turn it over anyway, and then exhaust ourselves even more, chasing the opp's tail on the rebound. Rinse...repeat. Chaos play on style is ok IMO for portions of the match but we need a mix of that and the slower tempo possession game in order to match it with the best and halt the opp run ons when we are fatiguing under the crash chaos option and/or ice a quarter or match. In addition i don't think it's wise playing a chaos game when our forward line isn't that potent. As you say, if we aren't hitting targets very often and with no genuine crumbers kicking goals and pressuring, then the ball is sailing straight back. If we put a very fit mostly best 22 in i'm sure that scenario might change a little (including an in form Hannan as mentioned) but we really need the smaller forwards and a genuine KPF if it is to pay off consistently and have a shot at finals in 2020. The Pies have lost a bit up forward with the Stephenson betting ban, an injured Reid and an out of form Cox so they may well be suffering from similar forward line / conversion woes like us.

All good points Bin. There was a critical intercept contested play in the match against the Dockers back of the square also where Jones found a side step through traffic and busted the game open through the middle. Pretty sure it resulted in a goal and a slight cushion at the time for some breathing space. Weighted averages from the last 3 rounds also confirm your observation about recent form...up 3% on last season's average score. Might have found a bit of a niche at HB (allows Fritsch to go forward also?)... *Number in parenthesis denotes number of matches played in this block.

Player / Team Stats Form Guide Rnds 13 to 16 (includes the bye), 2019 vs Season 2018 A small sample size but some sort of indicator of form from the last block of three matches. Ignore Petty's amazing percentage as there was only one match last season so no averages to work off and we only have one match from Lewis so that's a potential outlier as well, albeit quite a one off result from the old fella. Jones boy almost back to his 2018 form and Viney has improved substantially vs pre-buy form. He was off anything from approx 21% up to 45% vs 2018 for most of this season prior to this block. Frostmeister the stand out, he's gone balastic and launched into a top 10 ranking! A few injuries impacting in here including Big M and possibly Bull Smith in his last match. Tommy getting back to his 2018 best then of course...out grrr. The biggest worries Gus, Fritschkreig, the Hibb & Weid. A fair way off 2018 in this block. Interesting to note we roughly halved the 15% plus gap in our team score for most of the season vs the 2018 season average score, although it was better in the 3 match block just before the buy, only off by about 7% so we have actually regressed a tad since the buy.

Aside from a rare T-mac hoorah we just have a VERY poor forward line that can't capitalise with all those entries in front of the sticks (set shots...seem to be a tad better in play on situations but only guessing on that?) or lock the ball in for long enough / often enough. Prepare for more of the same next year IF we dont get a quality KPF in there and one or two quality crumbing smalls who can pressure, pounce on the loose ball and finish in front of goals. Aside from Goody's crash bash chaotic 'numbers at the contest' game style that sees the boys unable to play out 4 quarters (and mostly always bleeding goals during segments of each quarter and at least significantly during an entire quarter....unable to protect a lead) and our diabolical turnovers (again likely caused by fatigue from the chaos style*) our forward stocks are a major Achilles heal. *We attempted to play more of tempo possession game in the 3rd yesterday which funnily enough saw us hit our biggest lead during the match and kick 7 in the quarter. Hopefully a sign that Goody is finally waking up to its benefits vs a mostly chaos option. We just might be seeing the embryonic stages of a change in the coach's thinking here. Would be interesting to see if this is the case at training from those here who are regular attendees!? The downside is we might have incidently been forced to play that way after half time due to the restricted rotations. Either way, it had the desired effect and was clear for all to see. Let's hope we learned something.

Player / Team Stats Form Guide To Rnd 16, 2019 vs Season 2018 Note: Did not include Hore's weighted stats score from Rnd 16 in his season score given he only played 10% of the match prior to breaking his collarbone. The most improved this season so far is Frosty up 17 places and 21% higher than his 2018 season output. That's a pretty massive gain in anyone's language. Just as massive but in the opposite direction, Spargo, down 45% on his 2018 season. The biggest drop in ranking is still Tommy, down a massive 14 places but gaining two places on last week after his best game for the season against the Blues. Of course we then see him catch the dreaded curse and he's out till 2020. Can't catch a break this year.

Cheers Kent. The interesting one for me on the weekend was Harmes at No.2 Personally i didn't think he impacted the game anywhere near to that level but were the stats lying or was it my eyesight? He might have done it fairly cleanly, quietly and efficiently? maybe i was seeing a lack of defensive two way work and lack of pressure when we didn't have it...only 2 tackles? 22 effectives running @ 81.50% DE. Way above AFL average (approx 73%). 10 Score involvements (only 2nd behind T-Mac with 11!), 5 interceptions, 353 meters gained and a goal. I guess he must have done some things right! Might need a new set of specs or maybe i should watch the replay

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 16
Demon Dynasty replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6. Clarry - the difference! 5. T-Mac - Curse strikes....again! 4. Tracc - Some great 2nd/3rd efforts plus strength around the stoppage becoming a factor. Starting to impose himself at last. 3. Jones - Poise & a cool head with some grunt when needed. Played out of usual posi but came through yet again. 2. Lewis - Too slow for the center bounces IMO but at the coal face his inside work at around the ground stoppages and clearances were mostly on bringing others into the game. 1. Pruess - what a fabulous back up to Maxy. Eight score involvements and 425 meters gained! With nothing to lose for the remainder of the season and having impacted in all games played so far, it's time for Goody to swallow his pride & leave the big fella in as a foil for Maxy and a tall pain in the [censored] (for the opp) forward who our smaller forwards (at least those who are capable...Hannan/Lockhart/Dunkley/Hunt/Chunk?) can feed off. -
Player / Team Stats - Weighted Composite Score Rnd 16, 2019 - Blues vs Demons (MCG) # Hit outs to advantage not accounted for Note: Hore, Petty and T-Mac only 10%, 57% & 67% game time respectively. Our second highest team weighted score for the season, only bettered in Rnd 11 vs the Crows (67.275).

It's more likely the extra fatigue those up the field are placed under when the balls coming in are hardly ever marked and the resulting spilled ball just shoots straight back out, almost a no crumbing forward line not helping here as well AF. We are also devoid of quality crumbing smalls who can pounce and snap! In addition we are so inaccurate (in general) that there is little time to recover, kicking so many behinds with the opp immediately playing on from the square much of the time. No time to recover, set up and defend effectively. Also it doesn't help when for example, an experienced player like ANB, takes a mark close to goal then fails to use up the shot clock and take a set shot at the goals. Instead playing on almost immediately to kick around the corner and missing. With the resulting kick in coming almost immediately back at our press / defenders and mids. It's mind numbing non awareness like this that causes extra fatigue and impairs our defender's ability to set up effective defensive structures and maintain the pressure for repeat entries and additional scoreboard pressure. The opp often scoring immediately on the sling shot as a result and making our previous efforts null and void. This is as much of a list issue as it is a coaching/training issue. So may players just "doing" without assessing or seemingly little if any any awareness of playing the percentages and eaking out every little advantage for the benefit of the team. Huge pre-season fixes on the track and trade table required if we are to improve enough to make finals next year.

There were players around Pruess on some occasions but too many got sucked to the skinny side for some forsaken reason. When the ball spilled inside the Blues easily outnumbered us and waltzed it inside 50 again. This is either a coaching issue or a player IQ issue for those who keep mucking up these basic structures on set plays. Or a combo. Leadership also. Who is telling these guys "dont get sucked to the skinny...stay fat of your opponent!!"???

What what...say what!!???

Should have been happening most of the year GYM. One can play multiple roles, impacts the game and, as you stated, a difficult match up forward, while the other...?

Potential for a severe self flagulation if watch anything other than 3rd quarter, a quarter which resembled something like modern football CB

A must goal given some horrible turnovers
