2019 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca
When he was on in some games he looked truly A grade. Just needs to pick the aerobic side up a little more and improve the goal kicking a tad. Assuming Burgess program has the desired effect i see him having a big impact through the middle next year and will be one of the few mids on the list that can score as well as impact on the ball. Club better have a solid as bounce back or Tracc will unfortunately become the Frosty of the end of season trade period 2020, albeit it will be him looking to move. And worse, it will be yet another decent player that moves just down the road to the filth.

Aside from Bruce (looking highly unlikely we are interested but hope i'm wrong), who else would you put up as a KF or tallish mobile forward option that can average about 2 goals per match or more LH on such low coin.

2019 Player Reviews: #13 Clayton Oliver
Coming back from two shoulder clean ups and considering the season other players had around him, a very good year from our young gun. With a more fit & in form Viney, Tracc likely to play alot more time through the mid and some additional outside options to link up with in 2020...we just might see our first Chas medalist since 2000.

Easily the most improved this season. And there weren't many.

Whenever a player is on the skids at a club you start "hearing" things Bin. Conversely when they are sought after / needed you tend to "hear" the opposite. I have "heard" things as well about "a player" at our club allegedly saying things on the field that under the scrutiny some are saying should apply here in terms of determining whether to get/keep or not, would probably see him terminated or rejected in a trade. I have no idea whether what this player allegedly said on field is true or otherwise but said player will still be running around in 2020. Probably because he is very much a required player & fan fav (in many cases). If he wasn't he may well have been traded (assuming what was allegedly said was overheard by MFC officials). If we were to decide our list based on this sort of behavioral criteria we might end up with a very short list indeed Bin.

Why are the Saints so attractive?
Agree. One of the major points certainly. I can't recall but rather than double up with the same or very similar 'significant' points of concern as multiple 'repeat' questions on the evening, has anyone spoken of putting together a list of X number of points to be raised via a DL nominated representative? Say Andy, Jack or Nasher? Just putting it out there. Start a thread and maybe put a series of the most reasonable / popular questions to be tabled. Nail those down to roughly a dozen or so....then vote to come up with say the top 6 questions we would like to see tabled. That's assuming the member's forum is allowing something like that to occur on the evening. This would ensure the main concerns get tabled and hopefully answered on the evening and those that may not be able to make it, (potentially) get to have a say via their vote on here.

Farewell Sam Frost
Using weighted composite averages to remove the bias effect of a B&F 'number of games played' voting system still saw Frosty finish the season ranked 11th and ahead of all defensive team mates. Yes some would have had their form / output compromised somewhat coming back from injury for X number of games on return etc (eg., May & Lever) but it's still a rough guide / indicator that Frosty had a decent season (statistically). And there needs to be some recognition given to situations such as May's, where he came into the side completely under done at season start vs say Frosty (for example) who had himself cherry ripe. While some (many?) downside performance factors are incidental / accidental and the player in question has very little say (Lever for example), some are also individual player / pride driven and the player's professionalism, attitude and preparation / effort does have a say in their eventual performance / output during the year...

Why are the Saints so attractive?
Yes i figured there was a bit of that DC. What i wrote i meant though. I reckon the club needs to move ASAP on a HQ option outside CBD, assuming there's no suitable option for an appropriate Gosch's construction. If that falls over there are simply no viable CBD or stone's throw alternatives. All been exhausted or way out of our league / unrealistic. If Pert isn't driving this in a serious fashion behind the scenes (and i'm not saying he isn't) then one has to ask ..."why isn't he?".

Compromised 2020 Draft
Some very good draft / trade minds on DL. Well done gents (including many on other draft threads). i'm not sure how you keep up with all the intricacies. Some posts more interesting than most of the trade period goings on ....or not goings on as we've mostly seen so far. ?

Time for the MFC to grow a pair and take a risk.
If there's anything we need apart from outside run & finish in 2020 Jack it's an effective / functional forward line that converts more often. T-Mac as the sole ok to effective KF IF Weid doesn't cut the mustard in the first half of the season? Season might be shot by QB. The biggest risk this club could take coming in to 2020 is NOT recruiting a key forward (eg; Bruce or JJ) or at the very least, a quality small to mop up spillage (assuming T-Mac & Weid are both fit a firing/in good form) and/or provide some decent forward pressure a la Jeffy. Clunking more marks on it's own will assist the team greatly even if shots aren't converted that often. In theory taking more shots at goal keeps the ball inside 50 for longer on more occasions allows backs and mids to recover and set up behind the ball vs lose ground ball and watch it sling shot out quickly. After Elliot there probably isn't many quality small options and we might have to gamble on the mediums picking up their act such as Melk & Hannan and a small coming on somewhat such as Lockhart and/or Chandler. Not getting either!?....well that's just too big a risk IMHO and may well be our downfall in terms of a potential finals bounce IF we don't. Still a little ways to go in the draft period...fingers crossed.

Jon Ralph says Demons are effectively a basket-case team
The two captains are more "lead by example" types imv LF. Not so good at the on field 'guidance & instructing/rallying the troops' side a la Hodge. Both only managed half the programmed pre-season load meaning they were struggling to stay in the game much of the time at the level required to impact and lead by example. Viney should be better with a full pre-season in this regard for 2020 but personally i would still have Max as sole captain and let Viney focus on his footy more as VC.

About two decades out AF. We ruled the G (our home base and only club to train there) until 1965 when the toiges became joint tenant. All downhill from there. Happy to be corrected, but if i recall we split from the MCC in 1980 and my understanding is (courtesy of OD) that the MCC stopped us from training on it about 1985.

Hit most of it on the head NS. Every club has them but the bolded are all raw imv and may or may not get there. Lockhart, Petty & Baker have shown glimpses but still a fair way away. Sparrow, Chandler, Bedford (0), Bradtke (0) and Jordan (0) are obviously untried quantities. Alot needs to go right, especially up forward with T-Mac & Weid for us to have anything other than a mediocre bounce in 2020. Including luck with AVB, KK (mostly unknown quantity as well) and May & Lever. We STILL don't have genuine smalls or a genuine No.1 tall for T-mac to become the No.2 target, which i think is necessary if we are to go further than a mediocre bounce and make finals. If either May and/or Hore go down i also think we are in a bit of trouble down back although Tomo might help here as long as Hannon is fit enough during this period to handle the other wing. Langdon obviously a very handy pick up on the other. Lever hasn't been there since he arrived (consistently) and plays a loose intercept role so cant be counted on to take a key tall forward anyways. Hore not suffering from second year blues will help also as i see him as the most likely to become our best rebound defender from here. Much will need to go right to make finals. Maybe get someone down there to bless the club & players and to ask for a fit & healthy list for 2020.

Only mv but not one of his better performances/movies.- Aiden Bonar
No real injury problems.... do two knee recos count?- Jon Ralph says Demons are effectively a basket-case team
Recommended Bonar as a great player after 11 matches whilee omitting he's had two knee recos. Tomlinson is the equivalent to a Lynch?- Farewell Sam Frost

Langdon is a big step up and Tomo should be handy. But was hoping for two Ron. A decent goal kicking KF / clever mobile medium forward as well as a proven genuine small crumber. Might have to wait till next trade in 2020.- Josh Mahoney in the Media
I agree demonzz. I think Goody & the FD did also but didn't get over the line with Elliot. If wishes were horses i still would've liked to see a back up trade play for someone though. Maybe a Butler. Just someone with experience coming out of a solid club (culture/system). Puopolo? Maybe even a Gunston for the around the goal mobility and smarts. The Frosty trade should have included something along these lines even if it meant giving another lower pick and/or a player in the vein of what they are looking for (ruckman...was Pruess an option?). Part of the solution in this also lies in forward craft and players learning their role / craft effectively to drag opponents away from hot zones and leading lanes of KFs etc. Making a crowded forward line that we are so used to seeing....less crowded, thereby opening up opportunities for speedsters to crumb like Hannan & Hunt as well as other opportunist crumbers (Melk, Lockhart, Chandler?).- Josh Mahoney in the Media
I'm not saying he totally ignores the outside at midfield (bounce / 666) & stoppage side DJ. A more balanced mix inside / outside and improvement in structures and set ups around the stoppages will no doubt help. Reckon he would have learned that he can't ignore this aspect after such poor results at the G and most teams finding us out in this regard this season. The players also need to play their part in the fitness and learnings to ensure they are setting up and structuring up around the contest more quickly, more effectively and more often than this season. An improvement has to come. I just can't see another year like this for some time provided we don't relax and get happy. As to how big an improvement who's to say. Get the tea cup out maybe! - Jon Ralph says Demons are effectively a basket-case team
