Kent not having played at any decent level of footy i cant speak from experience but my imagination and decades of observing the game suggest to me that in today's crowded i50, in the heat of battle with so many speedy players around who can cover 5 - 10 meters super quick, your vision probably looks and goes to the player/s in front who is / are the one/s 'on the move' and who look like they're in a bit of space to receive or can run onto the pill when it's kicked into that space. All happening in split seconds. I doubt he had the luxury of an extra split second or so to decide if it is worth kicking to 'ANB' or not and re-assess. He might not even have recognised him until he was well into the kicking action....all too late.

IF that is the case DD then it falls to the Coach to step up. And not just in this instance. I don't believe too many seasoned quality AFL coaches would have put up with some of the vacuous leadership over the last three months or so without stepping in and taking some serious action to arrest the on field (off field?) leadership issues.

Pert with the help of an external AFL review board would have been better LH. Pert barely getting used to new office and surrounds, let alone people/systems etc, before this calamity hit and really in no position to assess without external expert 'independent' guidance IMV. As you are alluding to, the internal mid season review by Mahoney has obviously failed big time and there's no point him leading another. He needs to be included as part of a full external review from here after next week IMO. Or are we going to continue with blinkers on and hope for the best in the same veign as the post WC final "nothing to seriously review here" debacle?

Both so called Leaders appear to have vacated their "willingness and want" to lead many moons ago. The mid year review should have included a review of on field leadership and an injection of a new joint captain in Maxy (none to subtle shot across the bows) in preparation for his taking over the mantle next year. There is and has been a leadership vaccuum on field for weeks now, which IMV is a big part of the entire break down of systems, structures and disciplines across all lines since the review, with the exception of the forward line which has been shizen all year. What we are seeing with results in the last few weeks is the final 'end game" of an entire break down of systems / methods & disciplines throughout the FD playing out on the field, from the Coach down to almost all within the playing group. Clarry's ill disciplined and ill directed outburst towards Fritta without any quashing or direction from either leader to "stand down and know your place son" and/or the Coach dragging him and saying same while he cools his heals on the bench, is a great example of where the FD amd playing group is at right now. An amateurish shamozle unfolding before our very eyes completely rudderless and devoid of leadership from the Coach down.

This is true JD. Which is why we need a wise old owl heading the FD who knows what a successful FD looks, smells and IS like. Should be going after Balme big time IMV. Might need to accompany the offer with a sincere apology letter! Top down review / renovation needed starting with appointing someone who has the knowledge / experience & weight to highlight the major weaknesses / holes. What a pitty PJ & Roos didn't put this person in place prior to departing. Possibly not for the want of trying. The AFL should have assisted and gotten involved also to make sure their earlier investment and efforts weren't flushed down the toilet. Silly Gilly.

The test is more interesting BA. I've switched over. We are unwatchable now and in any league with a bigger population/following we would be relegated.

If that is correct BA then the contrast of output / quality is astonishing between quarters. Goody looks completely lost for answers in the box and shows no emotions at any point. I would be furious at some of the passages of play as a team and from many individuals tonight. Get to the bench, attempt to at least show them / highlight where they are going wrong immediately while the errors are still fresh and highlighting the alternative ways available to improve as a team and individual.

I was asking as i thought he was easily our best in the first part of the first quarter BA.

No just Gus. You don't need to be in any form not to continually hand ball it straight to the opp most of the time under little or no pressure and not look where you are kicking it to. No silk or improvement for the entire season with decision making/finish. Trade while there's still some value.

Frost competing well but had terrible in the air and with ball in hand. Ditto Gus & Jones on the decision making and finish. Drag all three for half a quarter and get the cattle prod out. Ship up or shape out! Casey awaits (assuming they all remain on the list).
