  1. The challenge for Goody is to keep him playing on the edge but eliminate the complete brain fade ill disciplined acts (at least one or two) pretty much every week that end up costing us a goal or two. Lewis also needs to reduce the number of panicky tumble punts forward when under little (perceived?) pressure and instead try and look for a free target and kick it to advantage (or to him). Has lost half a yard probably so my gut feel is he may think he's often under more pressure than he sometimes is. Just an awareness thing that the FD and Lewis may well be working on already. Aside from that he reads the play very well as one would expect. 10 intercepts and 4 score involvements on the weekend was pretty impressive from a defensive side and we know how much coaches (apparently) love intercept players!
  2. Not that big on most stats, especially in isolation (watching the game always a better option!) but a few interesting ones in comparison to last week.... We doubled our contested marks from 7 to 14 We had 7 more marks inside 50. Up from 10 to 17 Tackles inside 50 more than doubled from 8 to 17 Intercepts were up a little from 72 to 79 We reduced our turnovers by 1 !!
  3. We often don't get the decisions that other clubs seem to get quite regularly D4. We must be well hated among the umpiring fraternity who most likely grew up barracking for other Vic clubs.
  4. Not a great game by any measure Dom but I think he was marginally better than Salem & Vince on the day, yet they still managed a follow up game. Vince obviously having a few more credits and a bit longer in the tooth! Salem seemingly playing the invisible man role last week along with a few others. At least Maynard was given a role for a while on one of the best players in the land and did manage to quieten him down a tad. Not an easy ask for a second game rookie. He did have 5 clearances and 7 tackles in among some ordinary patches (not alone!).
  5. Ben will probably bang up pretty much anyone we put on him BBP if we don't match up/set up and have an organised disciplined defence as well as solid pressure up the field (obviously). Has Frost learned a little over the break from further coaching? I would think part of defending Brown (apart from closer checking and getting numbers around the contest ...Lever?) is running him big time up the field (chasing his opponent on the fast break counter) and making sure he doesn't have a full tank for multiple leads when the ball's coming back in to him. Frost probably the only tall capable in this regard at this point. Who else would you be considering for this match up BBP?
  6. Brayshaw (or, less likely, Hannan) for Bugg rjay.
  7. In the mind (and to a lessor degree legs) Gorgo..... or a third go at it but release him as an outside linking mid further up the field. Hitting targets inside 50 occasionally would be a must also if he's to play a role there rather than our usual bombing.
  8. Vince was unable to go with Zorko for more than a roughly one half is probably what happened BM. The drive from Zorko out of the middle after half time playing a big part in turning the game's momentum. I would have left Maynard in the team or brought in Brayshaw for that 2nd half tag team role with Vince, instead of bringing in Tyson. Would have played Bugg on Cameron. Bugg up forward a complete waste of space. If Bugg isn't tagging a ball magnet in the middle or defending down back on a small/medium small, I wouldn't be playing him at all. Hannan is a much better option to groom into this medium forward role. Has the potential to be our version of Menzel if we persist and he puts in the hard work over the next few years. First game last week like everyone else. Wasn't great but wasn't as bad as some on here were saying for an omission (for Bugg!). Needed a second go at it and a challenge put to him by the coach for this week's match against the wooden spooners. Would have been a great opportunity for redemption. Melk made up for an ugly shot or two but his vision and delivery to advantage inside 50 to allow others to run on and score was first class. Made up for this IMO. How Max didn't get that free! Rag dolled out of that contest! Nice summary
  9. He will be fine. Maybe a week off to reset and refresh. I would start pushing him up to become a link man on the outside of mid field stoppages on the burst. Time to unleash his burst speed further up the ground where he can impact more coming inside 50 and provide us with some much needed outside run. Would need to work on his disposal though and lower eyes more often. Can be done and plenty of depth / run down back to cover him in this role if/when Frost & T-Mac come in.
  10. To be fair Brownie there were 4 umpires watching that contest and they were all blind sided!
  11. Tracc needs to be utilised on the outside as a mostly outside mid if we are to get the most from his silky skills and strong run/finish and will also allow him to drift forward more often and more quickly if he isn't being asked to do as much bullocking work inside. Extremely hard to match up on up forward as we know. Will be fixed with the return of Jack. Fingers crossed that happens by Rnd 8 ?
  12. Frost in to cover Brown is a no brainer this week. I would sacrifice a small in Hunt and give him a breather for this one. Sometimes a week off can do wonders for a young body and legs, especially given his break neck style. Brayshaw for Bugg. Sorry but Bugg just can't be played forward near the sticks. Complete waste of an entry inside 50 if he gets near it. Back pocket or hard tag role only please.
  13. Is it your understanding that with two coming off the back of square we are freeing up one or two of theirs out wide towards the wing (obviously on the square also but wing side) WB? Or am I mistaken here. Without being able to watch the game with behind the goals vision or on game day I have trouble seeing the whole set up picture at centre bounces in these coverages.
  14. 6. Hogan 5. Garlett 4. Oliver 3. Pederson 2. Melksham 1. Jones
  15. Bugg is the most inneffective forward i habe ever seen. What role IS he playing? Cant see options cant hit them up by foot cant hit the barnside of a door!
  16. Jeffy & Jessy stood up ...finally someone said i want this!
  17. Tyon's decision making and disposal is not AFL standard by a very long way. Has cost us big time here tonight
  18. Is ANYONE In this team capable of standing up????? Jones wtf was that kick?????
  19. You would have had to have been on something quite trippy to have meant it that way WB ? He does do that pretty well yes. What a pitty he has no radar for the big ones. Would be very handy up forward if he did.
  20. So D4 you are saying he got lucky and he should keep that act going as he probably won't hit anyone flush like that too often?
  21. If it was an actual VFL game I might be interested P-man. He would need a massive turnaround on last year's regression.
  22. WB he might know how to kick a goal but seems miss quite often? I must be missing something
  23. An ideal run with option for the likes of Selwood and Ablett last week. Not near the goals under that role either but can get a few possessions himself. Missed the boat on this option last week playing Maynard and umpteen other options on Ablett beforehand. Bugg plays the nuisance role well and has an uncanny ability to get under the skin of his opponent, a little like Vince was doing a few seasons back. Vince and Bugg rotating into this role on ball magnet types (when needed) would be better than allowing them a free reign on inexperienced or part time mids, where they are able to rack up high numbers and run rampant. The run with role is not dead and by limiting a ball magnet's influence a little it gives us a chance to out score our opponent and come over the top in games like last week. Bugg also brings a high level of intensity at the contest in most games that is sometimes lacking by others, especially with Viney out.
