One assumes that to receive a warning someone must have done something wrong. I have no problem that the AFL Integrity people checked up on the allegation - that's perfectly appropriate. But I can't see how Cheney did anything wrong...so why the warning? If I were Cheney I'd seriously be considering speaking to a defamation lawyer as the warning suggests wrongdoing and unfairly tarnishes his reputation.

Yes, defining success is a subjective assessment. In my mind I suspect getting 100 games from any player should be considered a success, particularly if that player was drafted in the 40s or beyond. Of course, even some 100+ game players are not necessarily particularly good players. I'd prefer 90 odd games from John Coleman over the 100+ games of Simon Godfrey, for example. -
BB, I'll assume you rated it 9.5 out of 10, not 9 minus 1, divided by 2 equals 4 out of 10.

So, ignoring picks from the last couple of years because it's too soon to tell, what is the AFL-wide strike rate for success with picks in their 40s? Is 30/70 against approximately the norm? -

I know it's (probably) a typo, but I'd like to think you've just created a new expression meaning "courage beyond his years" -
With two M King ruckmen on the list, we're going to have massive identity problems on Demonland. (It may not be a genuine on field problem as I'm not sure I can see how both will ever get a game together). Given England has differentiated between the two Queens Elizabeth by designating the first as EIR and the other as EIIR, perhaps we should start using MIKing and MIIKing. What could possibly go wrong?

Not necessarily. He may be the very best out there, better than all the professionals. But he might also be the best rocket scientist there is, too, and doing that for a living.

This photo of Oliver makes it look like he's eaten Darcy Parish for breakfast.

Barney, I'm pleasantly surprised you didn't suggest the following lyrics: "Demons, meet the Demons We're a modern stone-age football club From the town of Jolimont We're a club right out of history."

Gotta love phantom drafts. I see Brett Anderson has decided that if Richmond don't pick Daniel Rioli, they may instead pick...Daniel Rioli. Oh, and he's following the latest groupthink (which, admittedly, may be based on inside info, not just Olisik's opinion) and has us picking Oliver and the Weed.

Look, I don't want to continue the debate about what's defamatory and what's not. But to explain what I mean, I was referring primarily to the second para in #3568. I know BB has strong views on this subject but assertions of particular behaviours by the AFL and its tribunal remain, in my mind, unfounded. And just to be fair to BB, I shouldn't have picked out his post in isolation. There are a few other posters saying essentially the same thing. Just because many posters say it is so doesn't necessarily mean that it is. -

If this thread is being constantly moderated and the defamatory comments removed...I hate to think what's been deleted given what's left behind. -

I'm not sure how you can jump to that conclusion. Maybe Charter and Alavi not attending weakens WADA's case. Maybe WADA don't want Charter and Alavi because WADA's case is weak and Charter and Alavi will just make it worse because their evidence may be inconclusive. -
Demonland needs more names which can be mis-spelled. Parish, Curnow and Oliver all seem almost impossible to stuff up, so we should pick Weiderman the Weed.

An idiot's guide to the new bidding system

The simplest bit to understand was the line that Eddie McGuire doesn't like it. That's all I need to know to say that I heartily endorse this new scheme. -
Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but I'm pretty sure the northern academy scheme was implemented not just to help promote the game in NSW and Qld but also to compensate the Suns and GWS for not having any chance of father-son selections for another 20 years.

CAS is a court, not investigators. I don't think it's correct to say that CAS wants "to get to the bottom of it". That's WADA's job. WADA has to convince an independent court, ie CAS, that what they found at the bottom requires CAS to take action. CAS should be dispassionate and come to the matter with an open mind. -
Your surprise packet for 2016
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Simon Goodwin - I expect that by about round 18 he'll be senior coach in all aspects except title and pay packet. At least, that's how I hope the succession plan plays out.
