Watts was as candid as he could be without wanting to rock any boats. His comments when asked if there was anything he'd do differently were a great example of that. But he's also right that when you start to succeed you appreciate the journey that you've taken to get there. If we are able to get to the final hurdle and compete with the best imagine how it will feel for the likes of Jones, Chip, and Garlo who have been with the club during some of it's worst times.

I'm so glad we got Dawes in the fallout rather than getting Lynch.
-
He looks an absolute gem, but the difference between now and previous periods in our club history is that Roos and co. aren't going to overload him. They'll keep adding to his load in small doses and let him develop in his own way. There's something about him that screams "pure footballer".

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I was holding out a tiny bit of hope that there'd be a bar somewhere to watch it but I think the streaming options are probably my best chance.

Hi all, So I reckon I'm going to struggle here but just in case I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere I could watch the Dees play in Brazil, specifically Sao Paulo. Really annoyed that I got convinced to leave before the game, but trying to find somewhere to watch it while I'm over there.

I agree, the gradient version has too much going on so making it flat makes the key elements stand out. I don't actually mind our emblem and don't see a great need to change it, but having said that it is a very busy emblem that has tried quite hard to replicate Liverpool's emblem. I possible idea would be to incorporate the silhoette of the demon at the bottom of the V and remove the trident, southern star, and ball.

A Melbourne player said it once and since then it has stuck, particularly since we've been out of finals contention since this player said it. I agree, it's a condescending thing to say from the pies fans/club. I reckon Roos will try to hammer home that this is another game, but also emphasise the importance of performing in front of a big audience. I personally love the build up and I'm gutted I'm missing it.

Opportunities missed or momentum building?
Pates replied to Fitz Fitzpatrick's topic in Melbourne Demons
One of the major differences in psychology compared to other years is that losses will make us hungrier to win. They aren't demoralising losses that kill confidence, the players would look back on games and ask themselves "why didn't we win that?" And it'll drive them to succeed, especially when we come up against team we've already lost to. They're missed opportunities but this year is about building a launch pad for the future. -
The official I love Dom Tyson thread
Pates replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Early on he made some errors but he settled into the game big time and became BOG for us. He has a class about him that haven't seen in a Melbourne player for a long time. He's continuing to make that recruiter who criticised our trade look like a muppet! -
Enjoyed the little swipe Roos took at the recruiter who said we'd made a blunder after round 4 with the trade that got us Tyson and Salem for pick 2. "He also criticised an unnamed opposition recruiter who was quoted in a newspaper article as questioning the deal after round four. Roos said the recruiter should be sacked because he obviously didn't know what he was talking about." Salem and Tyson, these two will be talked about as a lethal combo for years to come.

I love Grimes, but he'd got to get his stupid turnovers out of his game. He killed the Chad today (prior to him being killed by his own player), but it makes that game look pointless when you give up easy goals. I think he feels like he needs to move it quicker when he has the ball, he doesn't sum the situation up like he used to.

Dawes in for Gawn has got to be a no brainer, Toump did some good things but still needs to work on his urgency and second efforts. Tough to decide who to bring in with Casey having another week off (seriously two weeks off in a row is really disruptive), Riley would be the obvious first choice to give him another go in the seniors and Kent would probably be my second choice to give a bit of run and he knows how to kick a goal.

Today was a great chance to test our new found confidence and abilities against one of the form sides of the competition, and the fact that we started slow and worked our way back into the game shows how far we've come. We didn't panic or go into our shells, we dug deep and got ourselves into a position where we could've won. We didn't get the points but the Power boys know they have had a fight today and I guarantee they'll be feeling it for a few days. This year we regain our pride, we may not be winning a lot but we are in the games for longer and I expect a couple more unexpected wins. Watch out Pies, we're coming for you!

That ball should've been called dead, the port doctor got in the way of the Melbourne player. I'm not saying free kick to Melbourne given the situation but he got right in the way and it caused the holding the ball.

The only way I could've been happier with that quarter was if a certain co-captain hadn't turned over a simple kick. I really would've liked us to press the momentum right at the end as well but I understand they wanted to preserve the score line. It really could've been all squared at half time though! Massive man crush on Salem and Tyson!

Nudge's thoughts are something that I've seriously considered. By retiring he has removed the spotlight off himself and allows him to heal with no pressure for a return. I'm still of the opinion that if he returns it will be a massive effort but firstly he must get himself right before he considers a return.

As much as it burns that the Swans were able to get both Buddy and Tippett, I really enjoyed watching the cats get murdered last night. Cats fans have become complacent, they needed to given a dose of their own medicine.

This would be the way I'd go.

Roos' rule: Stability helps to breed success
Pates replied to Adam The God's topic in Melbourne Demons
Absolutely, the amount of times people on here have outright accused him of being the source of all our injury problems should be eating some humble pie right now. If he was the source of the problems then he has found the solutions and should be credited as such. Our injury list early in the year was a nightmare but it's fair to say that it's probably the best it's been for a long time, which allows for a settled line up and players having to earn their spot in the team. But as the article also pointed to there were plenty of times Roos could've swung the axe with players like Watts and Pederson in the first 4 rounds, but he backed them both in and Pederson has almost become one of the first picked and Watts put in arguably his most influential game for the club. -
He's one of those players that fans in the competition love to give it to, but good on him for offering advice on getting Jesse through this difficult time in his career. If he gets a couple of games in before the end of the year I'll be happy.

Best of luck to Clarko in his recovery.
-
If he does elect to leave I would hope we would do everything in our power to be one of the front runners to nab him. Something is also nagging at me that the AFL might step in to try and convince him to stay, what little supporters there are love the way he plays and it would be a massive blow to the AFL's pet project if he were to leave.
-
I'd settle for us pushing them to the line and being in the game at 3 quarter time. This is the first genuine contender we've played all year so there's a bit of an unknown factor but it's where I hope to see the most improvement. In terms of can we win, on our perfect day and on a bad day for them we can, but if they play to their best I can't see us being within 5 goals. Especially without Dawes (thanks MRP).

Needs to bulk up around the neck region.

I think they include anything with a beating heart at the ground. The crowd figures are more of a farce than a Zimbabwe "election".
