Yes i know that. We traded our first rounder last year to GC which is why we can't trade it to Port this year. I would assume if Port wanted to trade HH they want a first rounder in the upcoming draft not next year, hence my comment.
-
How do we get a first round draft pick to give to them?

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

What, Viney's gone! -
Famous last words. It actually shows how important Spencer is to us

Scott Thompson - Would we welcome him back?
binman replied to The Backyard Charizard's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not sure we had much choice but none the less a huge loss. A gun and i reckon one of the most underated players in my considerable time of watching footy. I would love him to come home -
Unless they have already traded it ( ie in the previous year) as we did last year.

This might be a stupid question but are you saying the deal is done on hibberd and if so what is the deal? -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
binman replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Almost all players these days are completely one sided so that is a moot point. His advantage is he is a left footer which is very important from the hb line as it so often opens options up the field as players instinctively cover the right side. I have no doubt it is key reason were keen on him. That and the fact he can consistently hit targets 50-60 metres away meaning he can kick over the zone and put players like braysue, trac, kent and garlett running into space in our forward 50. This is a key wlement of our game plan -
Sums up my feeling very well. I shouldn't be but i amazed how deflated last week's game left me.
-
I'd take Harvey. But only as a runner. He has two of the required attributes. He can run and he can talk. Perhaps he could also sledge opposition players. On second thoughts i don't want him at the club. Even as a runner.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD

Terrific. More comedy gold. I assume the irony in the above post is deliberate (or at least i hope it is) - if so then points for the satire and well played. If not....... -
That's an excellent point. I was saying to a mate that regardless of the outcome this experience will be invaluable ie playing games under pressure. the next two games are akin to elimination finals in a sense, with one against a top 4 side at a hostile ground. Such good experience for a young team and we are lucky to be in this position. Compare taht to the Tigers Saints game today. What did either side get out of that dirge.
-
Bull played well then
-
Good on Hibberd. I hope we get him.
-
I reckon the fact he was emergency so often suggests he is in their thinking. the dogs have shown this year how critical it is to have a big group of players who play at a high level in the VFL and come into the senior idea and fit straight into the system and play their role.
-
Inside word Samael? For what it's worth i hope you're wrong. Still has a lot to give for the dees and i am in the minority who rate him.
-
Well that would be funny. At the hawks game i was pretty vocal through the game and partic near the end when i confess i yelled Percentage! A hawks fan in front of me did a lot head shaking and when leaving patted me on the shoulder and said (in a very condescending tone) - might see you in the finals next year champ. Which was funny because even though he meant it as a sledge i had just been thinking exactly the same thing. It would be even funnier if we met them in the final this year. Perhaps knocking them out in the second week after elimnating the cats in the first week. In that dream scenrio he is sitting right in front of me again!

You cant be serious. Probably only leigh matthews and noem smith have comparable coaching records
-
Oh, ok. Thanks for clarifying. I avoid commenting on which players might get dropped, one because i don't like bagging players (though understand suggesting players get dropped does not by definition mean bagging them) but mainly because i rarely get it right. But without being smart after the fact i reckon it is a fair enough call to drop Harmes. I watched the replay and whilst you can't knock his endevour his ability to consistently hit targets is a concern when playing on the HB. I heard an interview where he said it was an area he needed to work on and i have real confidence he will improve this aspect of his game. In some ways he reminds me of a young Nathan Jones in terms of his attack on the ball, his team first ethos but also in his desire to improve.

Disagree on first point but totally agree on second. I am very surprised they picked Weed over Pedo. Brave call and as you suggest a nod to the future. He will play out of the square with Hogan at CHF and Watts as a dangerous floating option. That will be our set up next year too i assume.
-
I completely disagree. And clearly the coaching panel does (and Plapp for that matter). I am constantly amazed that a small minority of posters on DL seem to think their judgments on the relative skill of players is more accurate that that of the coaching panel, I mean come on. A good user of the ball and works hard up and down the ground. With his stellar VFL form deserves his call up and will give all the grunt of Harmes and less damaging turnovers
-
Not trying to be disingenuous but what's your point with this post?
-
I agree he isn't there yet. Of course he isn't. He's a kid. Apologies if i implied you suggested he should be dropped.
-
'One event does not maketh a forward' Huh? I used the Kent goal an an example. There are many others i could have chosen. Of course Pedo can and does crash the packs but it is not either or. You need a minimum of two big players crashing packs (Dawes and Hogan or Hogan and Pedo). Again as Viney notes it is about structure. Take one of the bigs away and the structure suffers. Agianst the hawks Weed still competed so was the second big, but given he is relatively small Gawn played forward quite a bit to provide that player who brings the ball to ground. But all that aside Hogan is a gun. Yes he has been down in the last month but he has still contributed. You don't drop guns unless they are not contributing at all. Honestly who would be surprised if he came out this week and smashed the blues. Even if he doesn't Weitering will go to him. Which means he won't be on Watts or Pedo. Happy days for those two.
-
Disagree rusty. As Prodee notes an opposition player rarely marks the ball when Hogan is in the marking contest. Therefore if he doesn't clunk it it inevitably comes to ground. The goal Kent snagged off the pack was a good example. And by taking the best defender and being doubled team it allows other players, as Viney noted in an interview this week, to 'get off the chain'. Watts is huge beneficiary of this.
