WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
binman replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree. I'd add that it is a big bonus Hibberd being a left foot kick, and along one at that -
The importance of this should not be be underrated. In normal circumstances when a new coach takes over there is always a big song and dance as the club looks to brand the coach on the club and sell him to the fans who are looking for progression and hop. Of course the players also have to get used a new coach. Neither of these issues apply to us, which is terrific.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
binman replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
I 100% disagree. If Hogan needs to go back to WA this year the dees would jump at Fyfe if that was an option and i for one would be well pleased with that deal. Fyfe is exactly what we lack - a true A grade mid fielder (note Viney will become one and i suspect Oliver will also and perhaps also Brayshaw). Yes he is coming of serious injury but Fyfe is as good as Dangerfield. As if we wouldn't take him. The FA stuff is a furphy as one there is no guarantee that he would come to us and two if we lose hogan we would want Fyfe in next years team helping us make finals. All that aside i really hope Hogan stays. -
I see what you did their - there no quite theyre

Disagree. I reckon he would be dead keen to come to the dees. We are closer to a flag than Freo. In fact it is a perfect time to come to the dees - we are on the rise and he could play a part in that rise. And with our list and solid of field governance (who would have thought i'd ever be able to say that?) we are well set up for long term success. We have a game plan that suits his style. We are stable in terms of coaching etc and as i've said previously i suspect Fyfe would enjoy the approach and style of Goodwin. I reckon of the Victorian clubs the bullies would be the only other club he would be keen on. -

Greater Western Sydney (a dynasty to rival the Hawks)

Im probably in the minority but i think its great gws are succesful and i wouldnt give a fig if they win the flag this year. In fact id be pleased to be honest. Once the afl decided to go down the 2nd side in sydney road they had to make it work - and not just in the short term but the long term as well. Fitzpatrick said on saturday the goal was to make afl the leading sport in nsw within the next 30 years. Hugely ambititious. For that occur both syd teams have to be succesful. My issue with the gws decision was the risk of thinning out the talent pool. Two succesful sydney teams will be critical in terms of influencing talented athletes to switch to afl. The other thing is that i live watching gws play. Thrilling stuff. Brilliant skills, fast ball movement and brutal contests. Exactly how we are looking to play. I hope they win the next two and we knock them off when going for the threepeat -

Not sure that is the case LF. Somewhere on DL I read a post that said the end of season interviews will be held after Casey finish. -
The word of DL posters not enough?

I would jump at Wells. Getting him on the park would be a challenge but when fit is an absolute A grader. He is exactly the sort of player we need as we only have Salem and Watts who are elite kicks and two such players is simply not not enough. We also lack pure outside players. I would consider Del Santo for the same reason but for mine he is a little slow and if there is one thing we are not short of its slow players. If we are to push towards finals next year Well is the sort of player we need.

Good post. Further to that the use of PEDs don't just benefit athletes in the period they are using them. I don't understand the science but i have read a number of times that athletes often get a lifetime benefit from using PEDs. it is one the reasons there is so much angst towards people such as Gatlin. A quick google found this article, http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-24730151 The research is about steroid use but i'm sure i have read similar stuff about PEDs

Dont get me wrong my very strong preference is to keep hogan. I cant believe how many dl posters seem to be cooling on him. He is a gun. Will be one of the best forwards of the modern era and if he stays with us a melbourne legend -

Im not sure why people are so quick to dismiss this. If hogan was to go to perth this year then in some ways this trade makes good sense. Pav has retired and hogan would be the perfect replacement. With luck with injuries he has another 10 years of top shelf footy. And we need a true a grade mid badlly and i suspecy fyfe would be positive about where were at and goodwin's style. As brilliant as fyfe is there is a big chance he will leave after his contract ends at tbe end of 2017. This has been openly discussed. He is 24 so has left footy left and of most significance he is coming off two very serious injuries. Who knows if he will get back to his best. Finally the timing lines up for both clubs in terms of when both players contrats end. That's to say both clubs will have far less leverage in the market if both players are out of contract. -

Jesus. Settle petal. #hitanerve You misunderstand me and perhaps i was unclear. You have made it abundantly clear, over and over again, what it is that so annoys you about GNF and Saty. I get that. How could i fail to. What i don't get is the incredible level of angst it causes you (as evidenced by your above post). Saty has made it clear he is winding you up (and i have little doubt GNF doenst mind winding you up a little) yet you bite every time and give him more oxygen, not to mention pleasure and motivation to write more annoying stuff. Anyway carry on. -

DD what is about GNF and saty that so clearly upsets you? They ring your bell so much it reminds me of that Mars bar add of the monks going crazy with the bells (inset gif here)? I honestly don't understand why if it they cause you so much angst you just don't put them on ignore. If either were trolls, and i'm not suggesting they are (well that's not entirely true, one of them has all the hallmarks of one) they must find your (and others) inability to stop yourself responding, and doing so with so much venom, hilarious. I mean if they were trolls this is exactly what they are looking for. Any way different strokes for different folks, whatever floats you boat etc etc -

Indeed. In addition the players in the NFL and NBA (not sure about baseball) have almost always come via the college system and i would hazard a guess that in the overwhelming majority of cases they had to move away from their home city or state to attend the college that recruited them. So not only are they older and more mature they've had 2 or 3 years of getting used to living far from home. -

Well here's a post that lives up to the thread title! I'm going to do my best not to pancic. Besides Melbourne is at its absolute best in Spring so perhaps that will sway him -

Agree. I think he'll stay. Even if there is a big pull to live near family i honestly can't see how attractive Freo would be to go to as a club (its funny how all the talk is freo and not WC at all, though i suppose they have Kennedy). They're now in a rebuild and realistically 2-3 years behind us in terms of that rebuild. They don't have that many young guns on the list. As i've noted the travel factor is a huge negative, particularly for a KP with a history of back issues. And i reckon Ross Lyon would be a pretty intimating coach and i wonder how Jesse would go with him. -
No the question is what is the point of this thread?
-
Seriously? Watts is arguably the best kick in the league.

As Stuie noted wires crossed. my fault for being unnecessarily obtuse. If Port trade out hartlett they will 100% want a high draft pick they can use this year, not next year so if it were us we would, as you have said, have to do something creative. I don't think your idea would fly though because there is every chance our first round next year will be a lateish first rounder, not a top 10 pick (keeping in mind GC already bet and lost on a future draft pick with us). Perhaps we could trade next years first round pick and a couple of players for one of GC or GWS's first round picks. Though i don't know who really as anyone we don't want wont be attractive to either of those clubs. We would have to offer up one of our best 22 i reckon and i'm not keen on that option. You don't build a dynasty by trading out the building blocks.
