  1. Sorry to bore you Dappa but I'm not a great reader of every post so I may have missed the Rivers debate. Sadly though you missed the point. In the past Rivers was one of our 2 or 3 most important players and as a result if he missed a game it affected us greatly. Not so now IMO. Even if he is as good as he was he'll just take the spot of someone who is doing a good job in the backline. His incremental impact on the performance of the team is now significantly reduced. And Jack I know one's interpretation of performance is subjective but which of Rivers 4 possessions and one tackle in the game against Freo impressed you? I'm being facetious of course but with those sort of stats and the fact that Pavlich was Freo's only player after half time all I can say is it must have been a terrific tackle!!
  2. He may well play again but to what end? Rivers had a couple of good seasons but he hasn't played for two years when he was almost our most important player. He's not now because Garland, Frawley, Warnock and Martin are all playing pretty well. And I fear the game is moving away from him. Pace and kicking accuracy are paramount and he is not great at either of these things. I reckon he's not a certain first 22 starter and he needs to earn his spot. And I don't think he's going to make as much difference as people think. I remember waiting for Stephen Tingay and Glenn Lovett to recover from injury. Both had the attributes to be elite midfielders. Neither played consistent AFL footy and hindered the development of our list for years. Rivers is quickly falling into that catagory although to our credit we haven't waited around for him to "come good". I reckon this is a "put up or shut up" year for Rivers.
  3. He was good in the second quarter as well as the second half. Just ask Rhino! He'd be a good player for us if he produces that form consistently but he's not shown that he's capable of that. One of his problems is our midfield is very poor and forwards rely, in part, on the midfield. He's not all that tall and he's not all that quick, he's just talented. Sylvia came with such expectation his performance to date has disappointed all of us I think. But he's a fair footballer, just not a great footballer which we thought he could be. But with talent he could still prove us wrong.
  4. Banned for 12 months, effective immediately. Patti and Watts 1019 deleted, IP address noted and will be checked in future. This board is for the enjoyment of all Melbourne supporters and it's purpose is to provide a place where those passionate about the Demons can discuss the club. It is also an important source of information for many people who rely on it for up to date information. Knowingly posting false information will result in a 12 month ban. Thanks.
  5. Occo if Grimes plays today, and I'll be there, you won't be posting at Demonland for a good long time. Posters starting rumours to stir up other supporters is not on and ruins the forum for others. Not only that but people who know Jack may see this and it may cause them some serious concern. You're on notice Occo, any comment?
  6. I hope you are right D's are the best. You've started rumours about a signing of the Casey deal, the MCC deal and given "inside information" on the Mission Foods sponsorship. If it turns out you are just starting "baseless rumours" you're in serious breach of the COD. If you're right and you are privy to confidential information and you're leaking it to this forum you may be in more trouble. You're walking on dangerous ground.
  7. Keep to the topic guys, thanks.
  8. Guys YM left Bruce out of his best 22. Big deal. We all know he doesn't like Bruce and we all know that the FD of MFC does. No personal attacks please. If you don't like YM don't read his posts. Thanks Fan
  9. Jack and Agent please observe the code of conduct. Consider this your first warning.
  10. I closed the thread because it had become an egotistical chest beating exercise by just a few people. No new points were being raised and no "fresh light" was being thrown on the issue. In addition I was receiving PM's from other posters who thought it offensive and received support from posters when it was closed. No Ivor, I didn't ask the other moderators if I should close it. Firstly if we had a committee meeting every time an issue like this arose nothing would get done and secondly there is no reason the topic can't be discussed in other threads. If you have decided that because of a closed thread Demonland is not for you then fine and well, but I suggest you try and show a little more resilience. And Deebest if you didn't read the thread how can you suggest we are sweeping important issues under the table? The "uh-oh" thread was four pages long for heavens sake, how is that denying people an opportunity to debate important club decisions? I suggest you read the thread and you'll see how silly and petty it had become. It's still there for all to see, it's not hidden in some dark corner so members and supporters can't see it. With love from your happy moderator, Fan!
  11. I think everyone here has had a chance to make their point. Discussion, or at least the thread, is closed.
  12. JJJ and BR, thanks. Did Rivers join full training?
  13. The Best 1. Cale Morton 2. Colin Garland 3. Stef Martin 4. Jack Grimes overcoming a significant injury, playing a game and doing a full PS to Christmas. 5. Dean Bailey's composure under pressure. The Worst 1. Round 19 (Geelong) 2. Round 21 (PA at AAMI) 3. Round 22 (Richmond) Wins and losses mean nothing in a year like 2008. Players are our future and I think we have 4 rippers. I'd nearly include round 20 in the worst (where we beat WC) but the last four games of the season were the most painful I've had to sit through.
  14. Get this thread back on track guys or it will be closed. Fan
  15. Fork and Rhino: Meesen, Bell and Moloney are all contracted for 2010.
  16. Comfirmed as 193cm by Matt Burgen.
  17. Many thanks Alpha for your excelent work on Demonland and the effort you put into your reports. They are very much appreciated.
  18. A great read Whispering, thanks.
  19. Thanks Jack, great read as usual. I started off trying to hate Buckley but in the end I had nothing but admiration for him. Emma's book sounds interesting but she didn't take a risk with who she followed did she? All of those blokes went first round. It would have been interesting to see her follow some of the lesser lights like Cheney and McNamara.
  20. DeeTox that is the best Avatar I've ever seen. Well done!!
  21. No he isn't, he didn't play the games and he didn't get the votes. Why you can't allow a player who has only once finished outside the top 10 in his career (his first year) the enjoyment of his victory is beyond me. Well done Cam, a well deserved reward for 9 years of footy for our club.
  22. Bump. I'm on the war path guys, it's time we did better.

  24. I only read a fraction of what is posted but today I've seen a number of posts that ridicule and abuse players and past employees of the club which is totally unnecessary. Everyone is welcome to make their point, but do it respectfully, if not I'll just delete the post with no explanation. It won't be fair because I'm not going to read everything. Some stuff that should be deleted won't be, but that's the way it is. Fan
