coach: Kneeled?

Just for the record, please remind us all, including Caro, which chronically underacheiving club the troubled Martin plays for? Would that be the same club that has as I recall the first (?only) player suspended for drug related issues? Then please remind us with which club the aforesaid (so called) 'professional journalist' has longstanding associations? Surely it wouldn't be the very same club: no 'professional' could possibly allow personal issues cloud their work, could they? Especially if they had some personal family related vendetta running against perhaps a high ranking official now at another club but once at the first one.

Easy on rusty there mitch: let the guy fantasise, like many of us few remaining optimists here do every preseason. And, FWIW, I hope that he is right and you are wrong, and I hope that you hope you are wrong too :-) -
It is just as well that Ms Wilson is not about to go out and play marbles, because she has completely lost them all. Does anyone know if she actually has any sporting history herself, not that it actually matters? Just wondering if she had, did she ever ever even once not put in 100% effort into winning any game? Could be the basis of a fabulous breaking scoop!

are you suggesting that he wouldn't know what it actually meant?

I think there was only one spoonerism from commentators on Rugby's Harmichael, which surprised me, so hopefully our new Superman will be OK.

There is a saying that approximately 88.35 percent of stats quoted on footy fora are made up :-))

Key Position Forward - who do you think we can/should get

Names please. -
Exactly my sentiments, Barry. I read this and thought...wow...we are building the foundations, quietly, of becoming a very professional unit both on and off the field: one that hopefully will attract players, members and sponsors.

Jurrah was definitely a very good recruiters pick up, football talent and excitement-wise: he drew people to MFC games. The pity is that he couldn't cope with the various issue presented to him off field, nor with his last injury which gave him more time to get involved with these 'non-footy issues'. One can only speculate, but had he not had that protracted hand injury he most likely would have been nowhere near Alice Springs that fateful day last year, and may well have been here exciting us again heading into next season.

Been there, done that. :-(((((

With Clark being handled with kid gloves and thus a possible late starter for 2013, does anyone who has been at training see Fitz as a possible forward starter at least in the early matches? -

Has anyone seen him without his footy gear on? Is there a cape, speedos outside his pants, and a big S on his front? "Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings at a single bound" -
So "your rucks" are the antithesis of Jamar then, who really offers little presence around the ground. I agree that should be a KPI for a ruckman, not merely the ability to get a lot of hitout stats, and those often not to advantage nor resulting in a clearance.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS

I just listened to the SEN interview - he sounds like a great kid, and living with the Vineys must be very stabilising for him, and a great compliment on the esteem that he is held at the club. -
Come on - it is just like the "absolutely fantastic" pre game, quarter break etc etc "music" at the G, that we discussed after Flannagan's article recently :-(((((((((((((......But the video was interesting - gives just a little perspective on how tight things must get in the middle in the heat of an AFL game. I have now recovered from my motion sickness - hope it hasn't wrecked my keyboard

Jamar looks dejected, as if he is thinking: "Geez these guys are good. Will I get a game this year?"

Great report FNQ thanks Though some will still be concerned by lack of detail :-) notably "Dave Misson arrived with his team at about 0935 and they commenced the set-up of some different training areas designated by small coloured markers. " You didn't say how many markers and what colour they were. Otherwise a great report -

Rods, poles and perches are different names for the same unit. Medieval ploughing was done with oxen, up to 4 pairs at a time. The ploughman handled the plough. His boy controlled the oxen using a stick, which had to be long enough to reach all the oxen. This was the rod, pole or perch. It was an obvious implement to measure the fields, such as 4 poles to the chain. A BBC webpage about allotments says that "an allotment plot is 10 poles" and claims that "A pole is measured as the length from the back of the plough to the nose of the ox". I suppose that if you wanted to control the front ox, you needed a pole long enough to reach! The perch was used in the reign of Henry II (1154-1189), the pole since the 16C, and the rod since 1450. In the 16th century the lawful rod was decreed to be the combined length of the left feet of 16 men as they left church on a Sunday morning. In North Devon there is a tradition that fencing, that is to say the cutting and laying of a hedge, would be done at so much a land yard, which seemed to be about 5 paces or 5.5 yards, which would equate to a rod, pole or perch. An earlier name for a rod was a gyrd which is the derivation of a yard. So, the likes of Russian, Fitz, Gawnius maximus would measure up at close to 0.4 rods (or poles or perches) - just in case anyone was wondering. I can just picture Neeld and Craig out there with the rod (or pole or perch) driving the guys through their preseason drills :-)
