The Controversial Discussion about the Knee that needs to be had
And who can forget the “play on” after Max was kneed in the head from behind in a ruck contest by de Konig - can’t remember if it was Geelong or Carlton. The absolute hypocrisy and double standards of the AFL and their “head is sacrosanct” is sickening.

And Cristian Petracca 😢.

Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries
I would be delighted if we could bump this post if we are still in it in 3 months. I guess when he next appears in public we will tell from his gait.

If they can't / won't spend a few bucks on a goal line camera technology then there is no way they will invest in imaging.

Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries
So did he have a full laparotomy (abdominal exploration through a big incision) or a laparoscopy (keyhole surgery). If the former then I doubt he will be playing again in 2024, and quite likely not even if a laparoscopic repair. Devastating

Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries
Must have been the terrible failure of a coach’s instructions that he get in Moore’s way. By the way he was in the forward line as I recall. Mason 😎 Cox say it is. These decisions are made after discussion between two adults, the doctor and the player. If there was any imperative overriding danger the doctor would of course overrule. But that may not of course fit the narrative that the whole club is dysfunctional See my previous answer. Will the AFL have the guts to make a move on this? Include knees in the back as “charging”. I doubt it. See above. Unless it is cut and dried (as in failing concussion tests or a pneumothorax) then patient and doctor consult, discuss and decide. That is how it works. Do you really think the doc said don’t go back out, and Tracc said no? They are both adults. Have you never had a discussion with a doctor on a treatment plan and discussed options? It woukd seem very reasonable for doc to say “no obvious serious injury, so if you want to try and see, ok. But we will review soon”.

Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries
He was, initially after medical assessment, not subbed. After reassessment he was subbed and sent to hospital. In retrospect he would have been better off being subbed at Q time - he wasn't then was. Clinical assessment and reassessment always occurs in trauma. Diagnoses are not always apparent the first time. Changing findings demands changing plans. We will just have to agree to disagree, especially on the question of "totally negligent of the club".

Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries
So I guess every player who cops a knock to the flank and is gasping needs to be subbed out immediately regardless of medical assessment? What a great opportunity for someone lowlife like 💩#4 early in a GF. Sub out a few key opposition players - don't even need to KO anyone now. He was assessed by the club doctor, and between him / her and Tracc they thought he was OK to continue. Reassessed and the story and plan changed, as it should have. The retrospectoscope has always been a wonderful medical implement. Plaintiff lawyers love it.

Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries
Mr Fence - I would presume it was the club doctor, who unlike any of us, had the opportunity to fully clinically asses him in the rooms and make a call based on those findings. Many players go back on with painful rib areas. Rightly reassessed at half time and may have felt things had changed, or warranted further investigation. see my previous answer ^ Agree especially with your first three paragraphs. He did stay down for a long time but as I recall play had ended by then. If he had stayed down that long whilst play was proceeding it may have been fair to call it differently. Od couse, speed, what SEN call "an operation" and what actually happens may well differ. They would no doubt call a chest tube an operation, and maybe even an angiogram for embolisation (going through an artery with a needle usually in the groin and injecting stuff to stop the bleeding.). Do we know whether he had his abdomen opened and the spleen removed or repaired? Or keyhole surgery? Pirlo - Do you really think our club doctor didn't examine him, or look at the footage? Seriously? The two you mentioned, as well as Jeremy Cameron, were concussions, and should have been immediately assessed in the rooms. The Cameron one did not seem to be adequately assessed with the doctor having to chase him around the ground.

IF that was even being contemplated (which I very much doubt) having Tracc out for an extended period (maybe even the season) this will not happen now. Surely we have seen what Billings and Laurie have to offer which is not much. McAdam I will give the benefit of the doubt due to injury recovery.

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
We have been on the list down three versatile players all season, one great (Gus), one very good (Melk) and one OK who was just starting to establish himself (Smith) and could cover many options. Also for multiple reasons one of our hardest working mids (Oliver) has been trying hard but not up to anywhere his norm. Spargo, love him as a creative clean small linking forward or not, hasn’t been there. And our “depth” players, Billings and Laurie have been pretty ordinary. Windsor has been a bright light, but they don’t seem interested in Kolt, AMW or Fullarton. Even Sestan, who with Kolt is a strong looking payer doesn’t get a look in. Surely it is time to try a change. Recycling isn’t working. As you say, hindsight is great Do you want us to get a CT scanner in the rooms? Can we recruit Jeff White as ruck / clearance coach please, asap. Firstly we need to try out those performing at Casey NB Kolt, Sestan, AMW, in lieu of Billings and Laurie, who should never be in the same MFC team, and if May is injured Tomlinson especially if Lever gets back after the bye.

Well, Yze is spoken for. Please name who you want and who is available.

Surely Kolt, and Sestan, both big bodied but inexperienced, would both contribute more than Billings and Laurie, and we definitely need a big strong body to replace Petracca. Even Luker Kentfield would probably outdo poor Petty who is just totally devoid of confidence - I know he won't get a debut probably this season but that is how low impact or tall forwards (JVR excepted) are at the moment. Fullarton, if he is ever going to be selected, must replace Petty and or Turner next round.

I suspect that it is - but, sounding trite, they must move on, for all their sakes, especially Gus' or nothing will be gained and they will just stare into an abyss like the supporter base is doing.

PREGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Yes, in retrospect Yze may be a huge out, but remember many here lauded McQualter as the second coming of Christ. I am not quite sure of his role. The fact that such a scandal went unreported and unremarked is an indictment on the people that run ruin the game. Spelling corrected Hopefully not as the back up sub 😠 wrong Windsor, Dee Of course that is what he would have done in his day, before MRP and video reports - an absolute thug Laurie? Billings? Does it make much difference? Goody is not THE selection panel though I am sure he has a huge say. And the Laurie as sub wasn't quite as bad as the Schache sub unused even when Petty (tor was it TMc) was limping throughout the last quarter Petty is playing because we need a key big forward and Goody is stubborn simple as that Word choice correction

CASEY: RD 11 vs Collingwood VFL
Not in any way trying to compare Verrall with Max, but Will is just 20 yo. Max didn't establish himself until he was around 22 or 23 as I recall, so Will does have a bit of time on his hands. If he could become a "fairly good ruckman", even half a Max, by 25 that would be an achievement. (I haven't seen him play but just wondering if it is good to write him off - if that is what you are meaning or perhaps not - at this early stage in his career?

Would a forward forward coach be of use to him (and us all)???

CASEY: RD 11 vs Collingwood VFL
Yea. Sounds strange. Battering a frail old man around in the ruck when there are two able bodied youngsters is just weird.
