Well played Richmond, so far. But honestly it is being over umpired A team trailing by 3 goals 3 minutes into Q4, forward at HF picks up the ball, running hard towards the boundary, one foot from the boundary handballs it over - deliberate!!! WTF are they thinking? Or, more realistically - WTF, are they thinking?

Maybe a lucky fre to Cyril just before half time, but after the whistle attacked about a dozen times - no 50.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 18
monoccular replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very inadequate performance - both last week on the field and tonight at the selection table. I really cannot see myself wasting my time going along Saturday arvo. Despite it being at the G. -
Interesting observations. The phrase that I have highlighted is one big difference between the very enjoyable spectacle once so common and the rolling mauls and scrums that are completely ruining the modern game as a spectacle. Wearisome indeed. I am no expert, but this blight needs addressing urgently - and maybe our coach's tactics in his previous role have been partly at fault. I would hate to see zoning but it may well have to come to that in some form or other. The umpires are not intelligent, competent or impartial enough to fairly and consistently enforce a "no go zone" (e.g. 20m metres) around ball ups around the ground as has been suggested, though the idea does indeed have some merit. They can't even consistently interpret the length of a kick for a mark, nor the distance ran without a bounce. Imagine them having to interpret something similar though in two dimensions? Severe interchange restrictions would most probably reduce congestion late in games as the players find that they just cannot run repeatedly to the mauls and scrums, and in time they may learn that they need to pace themselves throughout the game with the reductions in congestion coming earlier. But once again i reiterate the absolute need to reward only properly executed tackles on a player who has missed his disposal opportunity, and to penalise all other non-legitimate tackles / pushes in back etc (other than the Selwood specials).
-
I would also add - protect the ball player at all times. For a 'holding the ball' to be paid it must be the result of a totally legitimate tackle on a player who has had ample opportunity to dispose the ball. I get absolutely sick of seeing, against all teams, the guys who goes in and gets the ball being pinged for HTB when he is driven into the ground and sat upon - in the back every time. So often the maggot takes the easy way out and balls it up or pays HTB. Pay the free to the guy who gets the pill.
-
I may be very naïve but has any coach tried having a forward go no further from goal than the 50m arc? Surely at least one defender would have to stay with him. That would offer at least one target, even if a one on one, for toes bringing the ball out of defense to aim for? Too simple I guess.
-
Trouble with the consistency is that it is consistently under performing as a team. Fresh faces needed, and of course more leadership of the field from the seniors.
-
Goodes, and the PC media are fueling this fire. I don't like the man for being so precious, and boo him. I also booed Stephen Milne for other reasons and Lloyd for his habitual diving . I boo Selwood for being a cheat, Harvey for being a sniper etc etc. PS they are white.

So in the ordinaryist scale of 1-10 (highest best player) where do you rank Michie, MJones, Bail, Riley, Dawes, Grimes ??????
-
Dawes butchered the ball from his first attempt - killed momentum several times in the first quarter. Grossly overrated and over paid. (I was once a believer). If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got !!

Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...
monoccular replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'vor - why can't we question Roos? He ain't the messiah. IMO he looks as if he has had enough, and lacks the passion anymore. He had a great list at Sydney and won flags. Maybe, possibly, even Neald or Bailey could have got that mob to the top. Great that he responded. I believe he is a top administrator and has been great for the club, but he doesn't play though maybe he could do better than a few on the list. -
Chris Dawes - Melway 134 F8

OMG I can't believe I am reading this cr@p List management has worked so well for us over the years, hasn't it?? -
And it appears that Roos has, like so many here, given up and lost interest.

And we are just so good under pressure now? Question please Mr Roos. We have a defender who (other than the time Riewoldt corked him out in the first quarter) has had the better of Riewoldt so you "experiment" with him as a tall forward, whilst the said Mr Riewoldt takes us apart due to a mismatch - WHY?? -
I think he will play next week because, and only because, there is nobody to replace him. Maybe Spencer or Jamar deep forward with some ruck work, or even incredibly King??
-
I would suggest that you enjoy it the next season or two while it lasts. Not everyone has the loyalty and love for the club displayed by Nathan Jones.
-
I hope that that was tongue in cheek. Nitschke Can come and do the deed on MFC that will mercifully end our collective misery. Back to the game - how were the rucks, Jamar and Spencer?
-
But...."he is a great leader around the club".What utter BS. Leading us into oblivion. Can't mark, can't kick, can't contest under pressure. Enough!!! A leader would have lead. I was a big supporter but I have seen the light. If he isn't dropped, and I don't care for whom, next week I will not go, not listen or watch and just check the score sometime.
-
Sadly, seriously, I did get the impression today that he was starting to lose interest in this inept team (using the term 'team' very loosely, as a team is a group of people with similar interests working together towards a common goal - clearly MFC are not a team. They are not working towards a common purpose as they appear to have no aims or purpose at all.) His departure would be the final nail in the rapidly filling coffin into which thus club Isabel to quickly descending. We may fluke one more win this season but there really has been little progress. One needs to kick goals to have any chance of winning. 7,8,5 goals against ordinary teams the past rounds is never going to win, and never ever going to attract or retain membership, or perhaps more importantly, decent players.
-
Sad is my predominant feeling too I have gone beyond anger Has PJ anything to say? Is he still running the club? Boring. Totally agree. Just not worth watching Will not go again this season Roos needs to apologiseto us all Absolute BS. Didn't play full stop. TMcD has had the wood on Riewoldt, generally, so the "forward experiment " was run again. Poor decision making from the coaching panel. (Hope it wasn't an example of Goodwin's game day coaching ^^ Sadly, as a 60 year supporter I believe we will never ever be a power again Yep. I cannot see when I will ever trust this club again. Give me one reason to

Maybe not: I haven't read it but I suspect in Dante's Inferno the demons would be the top dogs.

But surely 50 years is long enough for this curse to last What better time for a Demonic exorcism than against a pack of Saints.

If we beat the Saints I will ....
monoccular replied to Bleeds_Red_&_Blue's topic in Melbourne Demons
Be pleasantly surprised at the exorcism of one more hoodoo.....50 years from the dark day that Dr Don Duffy and his dastardly dimwitted board /committee inflicted this curse upon the club. -
Exactly. If I recall we had about that number on Friday night 8/8/8 and were berated as a disgrace, despite this only FN game for that year clashing with the opening of the Peking Olympics. Set up by the AFL for a 'fail' if ever there was. I guess all the 'power clubs' said "not interested...hand it off the someone who will snaffle at any crumb thrown to them."
