Good observation AH30. I also felt Garry was taken by surprise, and if so, then the club should be commended for keeping this quiet (up till this morning anyway)
-
I was too wary of posting on this decision for obvious reasons but you have covered my view well. Very disappointed in the club not having a sensible and compassionate discussion with Nathan to guide him to a worthy and respectful retirement. (they may have tried though - who knows) Now we could have a car crash for him next year. I don't buy the earning the extension on leadership given our woeful performances under him at key moments in the recent past - Final round 2017 is the highlight in this regard and round 1 this year. Will be partly mitigated by skipper change.
-
Not what I saw yesterday. I thought I was watching dees vs Tiges in first half. Huge collection of clearances and disposals (like us) to no effect on the scoreboard, although they did slow the tiges down after 1/4 time.
-
I'm with Wiseblood on this. Each season generally 3 teams drop out of the 8, and 3 new ones go in. 2019 - demons, hawks and swans out Lions bombers and dogs in for example. Doesn't happen each year but reliable predictor There will be opportunities next year. Ball's in clubs court though. Skipper, fitness, game day coaching, strategy, list clean up, skills etc.....

Just left the H after seeing first half of tiges snd lions. Tigers are everything we are not. Well drilled plan with all players buying in Foot skills sublime Forwards excl catagna all can kick straight for goal. Have natural forwards. Reiwoldt lynch rioli martin. - we have t mac Run wide and center ball more often . It was a pleasure to watch Agree about player quality. But just left the game. No way did i see any resemblance in style to tiges. More like Lions at present who seem to constsntly bomb to forward contests which are being picked off by tige defenders.

Agree in full joeboy. Well done and thanks for all your efforts this season

The 2019 season post mortem thread
Demon17 replied to Delusional demon 82's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree with all of this but big issue also is that FD/goodwin improve 200% on game plan and match day coaching. Players step up tp be peak fitmess and top class disposal. Alas I'm not optimistic on these 2 issues. -
Win the hitouts and clearances by a mile - and lose. Another coaching disaster from someone in the FD team. Not to mention the 3.1 to 1.7 final quarter scoreline
-
Can he teach them to kick straight?
-
Spot on. I just can't see what benefit this appointment will be. Burgess I get what he brings in contrast.
-
Disappointing if true because goody as a serious finals player should know how hard it is to get there and should have been ahead of the curve in pre season. Is he dumb or just so inexperienced its scary.? ??
-
This season absolutely proves the misconception that is the importance of hitouts advantages etc.
-
Could not agree more. The May option even in LG would be a big change and worthy of consideration. I will be surprised if he's not at least In LG if he does a gawn and returns in mint condition
-
Yes it is a coincidence. Max showed the " follow me " approach after the 2017 debacle season by training in his own time, and when overseas, to prepare for the redemption which deservingly came his way in 2018. He just happens to be a great player as well. But one of the few with leadership qualities at the club at present.
-
Spot on. he says "...Sorry Mate..." to the skipper. Clearly knows he let himself down. . And he was stuffed. I have loved a lot of what Fritsh has done this year. He won't be out of the next finals team. Lets hope they shake hands over this
-
The best post I've read on this issue. Including the May opinion.
-
And they answer to and directed by .....? Oh thats right. The CEO.
-
Good call. Pert has overseen 52k membership and new balance resign. He gets a pass this year easily. His ceo clout will now be on display getting FD into shape. That will be his test next 12 months. If viney and jones are still skippers then thats a failure at the first tough decision. Time will tell

Damning Statistic for Board/Coaching Panel 'conversation'
Demon17 posted a topic in Melbourne Demons
I know there's another thread on Simon Goodwin, but for me watching at the game last night, this statistic says it all about the coaching Group's overall competency and should call into question the option of any non-performance clause in employment contacts by the Board being exercised. 1. At half time, both team had equal possessions - 185 each. 2. But ...In the 3rd 1/4 when the wheels fell off MFC had 25% more possessions than the swans. What happened? 3.And.... Overall of the Inside 50 count of 55, half of these were delivered by arguably the clubs best 4 players/onballers - Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, Harmnes and Petracca. 4. And yet..... only 2 goals were scored from 1/4 time. If you ignore the dubious free kick goal, then our gun onballers set up 1 goal from 1/4 time despite owning the leather, sort of. How? Irrespective of player fitness and/or injury, the Board's first question on Monday is how can what is seemingly impossible be so easily achieved by the supposed 'best list' in the AFL? This is not a player issue. IMO the players got the team the the prelim last year on 6 weeks of G and D. The rest is fugazi Like last year I shall attend the AGM , and this will be my question from the floor if someone doesn't beat me to it. Or Simon addresses it to my satisfaction in his much anticipated address to the members that night.- 1 reply

The hitouts by max and clearance results for swans are an indictment on coaching team. You see the stats but they seem impossible.
-
Too many vfl standard. Billy stretch is a momentum killer first class. Lots of mates. As if theres no system. Swans have way more pride and talent.
-
Kudos to the CEO Gary Pert on this.
-
I rate nick. But ignoring him last 4 3rd place getters excl. gus were Martin ablett sam mitchell and swan josh kennedy. The point is gus is in good company and part of a reliable long term form predictor if he can get himself right. It ain't nothing mate.
-
Tell that to nick dal santo. 3rd in second yeat I think. Tanked next year then all upside once he found out hard work was needed.
-
Highest nimber of missing starting 22 games by a mile. With a developing list and coach this was alwa6us the issue. Gus didn't fluke 3rd on the Brownlow last year. Just needs a good professional pre season like most of his mates. All the rest of the commentary is fugazi with media needing to produce content no matter how shallow.
