The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - 2011 Season Wrap Edition
old dee replied to Striker475's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree bd I am glad I do not feel as bad as Green looks. He looks like he would rather be anywhere but kicking for goal. For his sake I am glad the season is over. He has been a good servant of the MFC over the years. I find it the most depressing part of 2011 to see the way he has fallen to his current position. -
Had a sneak look at that other thread! It astounds me how much can be written about nothing new.

I guess he means we do not want to stray from this successful path we are on now DC. -
no need top tank when you are this good FYD.

I look forward to the first hard seasoned player to join the MFC ranks. and as for choir boys! please deliver me a [censored] who can play next year. -
Prof that is a fairly good summation! I will agree with 90% of it. The only thing I would add is we have no game winner.
-
I think you are right. We don't need any hard experienced players We need more young inexperienced untried players who have not yet developed beyong average.
-
He has a small excuse he was out injured for a few weeks. Green does not have that luxury

There were a lot af games that we did not win one quarter. So we had to get a win occasionly. As you suggests most of were against the equally handicapped as ourselves -

"The season did not go to plan" Hell I am glad of that! For a large part of 2011 I was struggling to see a plan. The simple facts are we have a large number of players that IMO will only ever be average players. We have very few "good" senior players WE have a few Good "medium" age players and a large number of kids, a few of which have shown the potential to be "good" players. And we have no one who is what I would call a "game breaker". IMO our list is average overall. It is the stuff of the bottom half of the ladder. -
The list will be exciting this time next year when we have won 10+ games. Until then it is list of average experienced players and kids with mainly un proven talent.
-
that may well be the "something" rpfc.
-
They are very seldom wrong! They say "money speaks". If they have closed the book then something is happening!
-
Statts are always interesting! Our captain finished 13th, equal with Bail who missed half the season! Our Vice captain finished 24th! Those results probally go a long way to explaining our pitiful year.

All of what you say makes perfect sense. But I have heard it all 100 times before "wisedog". From 2012 on "the proof of the pudding is in the eating" for me. Enough of the promise and more on the results. After we have won 10 games next year and reduced the big losses to a couple will I say we are a good team. Until then we are a poor team in the bottom 30% of teams. -
Me too rpfc. And just as fed up. I am over five plans, I want a one year plan for 2012. Add some experience and get 11 - 12 wins while some of the choir boys develop.

the bad part is they do not happen very often. The one statt i am never going to look up is how often I have fronted up hoping for a miracle. I got up this morning and thought "how do I get myself up for 2012"? 'what is there to improve my thoughts over the next few months. - Draft , oh no we will pick another choir boy as no good seasoned player will come to us ( see Hale last year ) - New coach, the only decent one will either stay at the pies, move to Carlton or retire to look after his grand kids. - Good news stories, Fighting within management, CEO leaves. - New captain, we cannot find one so Green stays on. The list goes on. However I did have a good dream last night. Subject: MFC gives up its licence through no one caring any longer. Now I can forget about AFL and spend the time with my Grand daughter. All jokes aside the future is depressing! -
DC there is a lot more than 2 of us in this band! Use the draft pick to trade for a seasoned player, anyone who is older than 23 and can get the ball and use it. How many more skinny choir boys do we need?
-
Sadly RobbieF you are right I have been saying the same for most of 2010. We simply do not have the cattle! I see little chance of an improvment next year, We do not have enough good senior players to help the kids develop. Green and Davey will not get any younger or faster. I would disagree on the subject of Jones. He gives 100% every week. I hope I feel a little brighter about our prospects by March 2012
-
If I was Todd I would tell them to get stuffed 3 years or nothing. And what does that say to the players and fans? "don't worry guys we are just waiting for Mick next year" poorest plan I have ever heard. IMO it is Malhouse in 2012 or not at all.
-
Well I guess that brings another wonderful season by the MFC to an end. And what a wonderful year it was. We played on average a lot worse than 2010, 6 - 9+ goal losses vs 2 in 2010. We got thrashed by the age old enemy. We went into the record books with a 186 point belting. We sacked a coach during the year. We ended the season with losses to Richmond and Port. Our Captain was next to useless for the majority of the year and the vice captain could not make the side for the last round through poor form. At the finish 13th on the ladder. Yes all in all a wonderful year. But in true Demon fashion there is always next year and the next year and the next year and the next year!

In a big way this year we lost 6 games by 9+ goals including a 31 goal loss. In 2010 we had only 2 losses of 9+ goals. Whatever way I look at it this year has been a disaster. -
Yes we all forget that little item
