I agree, Bartram has moved on, he covers the small forward, tagging was so he could become more accoutantable and consistent and last season he showed it, same with Dunn....but if the need arises they can both return to the role.....
-
I think you will find that with PJ amd Meese gone Newton is being looked at for the ruck, hence the bulk......only time will tell.....I spoke to him at the end of the season and said he would take a rookie contract in a flash if offered and he actually quite enjoyed the rucking.....
-
I asked Josh Mahoney at an end of year function where he thought Bail's future may lie......and he said in a tagging role, as he has the strength and the engine, plus enough skill and goal kicking threat to make the opposition player accountable in defence........
-
Well said, let's just trust the Footy Dept and enjoy next season, my opinion on his past record, another highly experienced mountaineer joins at the base camp ready for the climb
-
We have Bail, Bartram, Bennell, Bruce, Frawley, Garland, Rivers, Martin, Warnock, MacDonald, Morton, Strauss, Newton, Grimes who have either played or can play in defence....I think our drafting will be whoever is the best player available at the pick.....the only one I think they will really concentrate on is 12.......and I personally think that will be a forward of some sort

2010 Player Review - # 50 Rhys Healey (rookie)
satyricon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
.....oh Rhys the unknown, had quite a few chats to him actually....watched him play in some Casey games..... first year was ruined by a serious quad injury, second year one or two niggling injuries, Brad Gotch thought he was progressing well, but injuries had cruelled him a bit (I asked him)....brought him back in at the end of the season to do tagging roles.......may keep his place.....will be his third yeat on the rookielist........depends on Footy Dept -
How closed minded.....read the posts....A lot.........now that we have quite a few quality cattle I can see quite a few 'whatthe!!" moves taking place........
-
Spencer has just turned 21, he has already played a few games, he has had to grow into his body, he is learning all the time, two years on the full list no concerns about being cut for those two years, go for it......again he would not be there if the FD thought there was no hope.......
-
E25, my point is, this is not flaming, is a lot of your posts to a thread accentuate the negative of any situation, that is why I thought you didn't enjoy it, yes it may be an absurd suggestion, that is your opinion, but as I said you don't have to join in on some of the threads, I read some of then, and if I think I have nothing valid or of value to add so I don't....also by the way sarcasm is not an art, it is an easy way out
-
This was just a thread posing a question, but of course, as I said the other day, the naysayers who want to wallow immediately start poo pooing....ok it may not work, but last time I looked none of us, as far as I know, worked in the Footy Dept at MFC...he may even be delisted when he gets back, but it is nice to speculate, if you don't want to speculate, it is simple, do what I do, don't join in on threads..I could have even picked who would start up....E25, rpfc....I don't know why you support Melbourne, you seem to hate it so much and it brings you no enjoyment whatsoever
-
My sentiments exactly, we may have kept him for a reason, we are hard nosed enough to pay out a contract these days to free up a spot, who knows....but I am sure the FD do, they have hardly put a foot wrong in 3 years, so if Newton is retained it is because the FD want him, so hopefully that will stop the bleating on this board by the footy pundits
-
Hopefully we will have enough players where every single player is under pressure to play well week in week out to keep their spot, the only defender I can see at the moment who may not be pressured is Frawley, but I am sure even he will have to lift another notch....if Newton works and can pressure the likes of Garland, Rivers etc to perform....I say go for it...to win a premiership we need at least 30-35 in form, fully fit players
-
I assume when you put 'doesn't fit into any premiership plans'you checked this out with Footy Dept, who knows what their plan is, and it can't just be ensuring we have the best 22 available each week....
-
Oh sorry I have got it now, so if Tom Scully or Jack Trengove don't progress to everyone's satsifaction in the next couple of years and we don't win a flag......then it will be Jordan McMahon's fault and we will have somebody to blame
-
Although a few posters are trying to shout down.....the point I am trying to make, yes it is the preseason, yes there isn't much news, but this is a thread about a Richmond player on something that happened two seasons ago........we have so much to look forward to, yes he may have made a contribution to our future.....but who bloody cares!!!!!!!
-
I think what is trying to be said is there are perceptions about Melb supporters, that we wallow in misery and actually enjoy it, this thread seems to perpetuate that myth. Most of the time this board has some really good discussions on it, this is not one of them. That was the season before last I thought we would have all moved on

THE KASPERSKY CUP SHANGHAI SHOWDOWN
satyricon replied to rusty_kingswood's topic in Melbourne Demons
For so called Melbourne supporters, this attempt at humour is nothing but puerile denigration of a Melbourne player.....yes he has frustrated us all, but I couldn't bring myself to talk this way about a player who plays for my Club -
Oh I got it....you mean like Clint Bartram who everybody wanted to get rid of last season, who probably had his most consistent season and played really well without starring.......what is a premiership player by the way, thought it was somebody who played in a premiership team, not somebody who we think will play in that team......I don't think anuybody at the start of last season would have picked Jarryd Blair as a 'premiership player'
-
Obviously you only attend MFC games, if you had watched a few of the Casey games, you will have seen Cheney is developing nicely, and finished in the best three for the season in quite a few polls on'Casey' players. But then again you can always form an opinion on anything sight unseen
-
I attended a few Casey games as well, totally agree, also there was rapid development from Fitzpatrick in the ruck after a few games, Meeson was coaching him.........from what I can see the Footy Dept has done really well again and unearthed a good coach.but unlucky player....

Wellman Resigns after signing new contract
satyricon replied to Alf Stewart's topic in Melbourne Demons
So there we were none of us having never changed jobs to move on to supposed 'greener pastures'......good on him if that is what he wants to do....thanks for the three years, thanks for the efforts with Chip, Garlo et al....Footy Dept will look around and get it right for a replacement...we move on and backline improves again under new coach..... -
If yio look at the 'taggers' at most clubs, they are not the fastest, the most skilful, or the best kick....such as Jones at the Saints, Picken at the Bulldogs, Ling at the Cats.......but they are courageous to a fault and can run all day....perhaps this is the best role for Jones or the only one Melb can see him in.....and he doesn't want to be just a tagger so he is looking around
-
.that's what I thought as well..but I was trying to be a bit mischevious.....you could have let it hang a bit longer for the non twitter readers.....
-
What should we make of this tweet Nathan Jones put in reply to a Brock McLean comment/tweet @chooka_86 haha says you in the same boat made the same decisions!!
