  1. That’s a very good way of putting it - both the supporters and players alike! That first quarter was so good - almost like a kid riding a bike on their own for the first time: it goes so well until they realise they’re by themselves, then crash!
  2. We couldn’t have got Green - as a GWS Academy player, the Giants were always going to take him, even if their hand was forced by us bidding on him.
  3. That’s unkind.
  4. http://Last year we would’ve lost that game: Melksham Erm...except we played Carlton last year and exactly the same thing happened! And Gold Coast?!
  5. Fantastic, balanced post. As an Englishman, though, I have to say that the managerial merry go round in the football league (often on the whim of an egocentric chairman) is probably too far the other way.
  6. Take your point, but Clarkson and Simpson have both won GFs and Buckley has gone as close as possible.
  7. I don’t think there needs to be a knee-jerk reaction BUT: - We have a collection of very good players, who are about to reach/are in their prime. - Whilst SG’s man management seems very strong - the players all appear to love him - his tactical ability (most noticeably in-game strategy) appears to be sorely lacking. Motivation can get you so far, but ultimately you need to be able to move the chess pieces around successfully. - SG’s pressers are very corporate speak (so are Buckley’s, by the way) and whilst we are told he is playing a straight bat, I can’t help thinking that this is the same way he talks behind closed doors. I worry that the lack of talk about the game strategy and instead talking about ‘learnings’ and ‘culture’ and ‘brand’ are perhaps masking deficiencies? - I really hope that he does succeed: Buckley and Hardwick both took a fairly long time to click into gear, so maybe it will be the same for SG. However, we can’t be ‘building’ for ever...
  8. Yep, much as I dislike these petty criticisms, I have to admit that I thought the celebrations were OTT for a performance that was underwhelming. It was all a bit of a rabble, which reflected on the pitch for half the game.
  9. I don’t disagree with this - a little arrogance can be okay, but a few of our young guns perhaps need to pull their heads in a bit - Oliver and Brayshaw are two that come to mind: both great talents, but not yet the complete players they think they are.
  10. I know! It’s like self-flagellation for him - he obviously gets a perverse pleasure out of it. He is the epitome of MFCSS!
  11. It’s Neal-Bullen: Neal-Bullen named in final 22
  12. There’s nothing on the AFL site about it. Until we know how they were supposed to have breached regs, we can’t assume that it warrants a suspension.
  13. Carlton fan Andy Maher insisting that Pickett be suspended. Anyone know how they broke the restrictions?
  14. Shouldn’t laugh, but that is very funny.
  15. They should just give each club a classic encounter, where they win, and put it on each club’s website. Everyone’s happy! Might also put the feelgood factor about and encourage people to leave their membership intact!
  16. I don’t see anything wrong with what Ed is saying. He’s easy to wind up, which is why Jones is taking this line of questioning, but he has the best interests of the game at heart.
  17. The sooner this Corona nonsense is out of the way and we’re back to footy, the better!
  18. Colin ‘Judy’ Garland
  19. I wonder if it was a way to highlight the disruption in preparations for the WCE game. A 7pm flight the night before is not ideal.
  20. Also, his distribution was v good.
  21. I’d love to know what was going on with Oliver and TMac - both of them looked absolutely knackered from the first bounce. They each had the look of someone who has been ill.
  22. We’ve decided not to go - as much as we’ve been looking forward to it, it’s irresponsible. As a small business owner, I feel awful for the owners of the pubs, clubs, cafes etc. and really hope the government steps up to help them out. The panic-buying is one thing, but the increasing rates of death should hammer home the importance of treating this sh1tful disease seriously.
  23. I spoke to the Sporting Globe yesterday as I’d reserved a table for me and my lad - they said everything was still going ahead in accordance with govt legislation. edit to add: I only just realised that MFC members get 20% off the bill.
  24. Luke Hodge is the best thing about Channel 7 commentary.
  25. It’s so sad - they have both been fantastic. Hopefully they can come back next year, when this utter sh1tstorm is just an unhappy memory.
