The Next CEO
Schwab and Pert were footy industry people but Guerra has come in from the real world. I get the feeling that he doesn’t stand for any nonsense or boys’ club BS.

AFLW SEASON OPENS THIS WEEK
That was a joy to watch: relentless pressure, slick movement and a team playing for each other.

Simon Goodwin Sacked
That was a hard watch - I must say, it takes some bollocks to front the media and answer questions about your sacking: I could never believe that when I first moved here, coming from British soccer, where they are just straight out the door. It sounds as if he was pretty blindsided by the decision, though - Greeny did as well as could be expected, in a role that he's obviously not super comfortable in. Let's hope it was the right decision: certainly, a lot of people have claimed it was needed - let's see.

Apparently, they do have a coach appointed, but he can’t start until next May.

NON-MFC: Round 21
Wouldn’t surprise me after the 9 goal breeze at Marvel last Sunday.

POSTGAME: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
This is the damning truth: How many of us were saying exactly the same thing? I'm a terrible watcher of footy on TV - at the ground is fine, for some reason - so I went to the supermarket at 3QT, because I just feared we'd blow it. (My Dees supporting kids think it's completely irrational, but I just cannot trust this side). Had a quick peek at the scores: still 40 points up; Few minutes later in the freezer aisle a text from my son: 'Same old Melbourne': 17 points up; walk back into the house after estimating time left: 6 points up; TV is now off in the house and kids refusing to look at the scores - I take a look: Scores level, time is up - fury ensues; One minute later: goal after the siren...you know the rest.

Hallelujah! Every week there is another effing learning to be had. How many more things do we have to ‘learn’ FFS?!!

Time to go Goody?
This is one of the many problems. The current administration (I'm including Pert etc here) had basically carte blanche, with zero accountability - mostly because WE, as a supporter base, did not kick up about it. Brad Green's inbox should be full of angry emails this morning, from [censored] off, paid up members, who want an explanation as to why their football club is being run like an amateur shambles. I'm sending mine now.

Heartbreaking losses
The weirdest thing about that was the points for and against. FOR: 1858 (our foundation year AGAINS: 1964 (our last flag, at that time) Just more MFC ridiculousness.

POSTGAME: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
Exactly right! I was thinking to myself earlier, that this would never have happened with ANB or Gus in the team. The loss of Gus has been the biggest blow to this team.

Who is running this club?
I hope for all our sakes that you’re right, regarding the new leadership. It’s been an amateurish rabble for the past couple of years, with no accountability. Seems like everybody has been punching each other’s tickets to keep themselves in a job.

Who is running this club?
I don’t know about factions within the hierarchy at Melbourne, but to have had a rudderless club for the entire season is inexcusable. Any organisation which has no direction from board or leadership is only going one way. I respect Brad Green for getting involved and initiating change, but to have appointed a CEO and President who can’t start until September, means that this season has always effectively been a dead rubber, as any major decisions are unable to be made until then. Therefore, the thousands of dollars that we have forked out for memberships (especially those deluded supporters, like me, who still get guaranteed GF tickets should the Demons make it) have effectively been wasted, as the football team has no clear direction or purpose. As members and supporters, it is up to us to demand change and accountability. I don’t necessarily believe in cancelling memberships, because we are supporting our club, but we MUST hold those in leadership accountable and ensure that they hold the same high standards and expectations that we have, for our club. We, as the custodians, have the absolute right to insist that those put in charge of running this great club are completely accountable for the way they do so.

POSTGAME: Rd 19 vs Carlton
Yep - and then, in the following passage of play, Clarry tackles the Carlton player holding the ball. Not paid.

POSTGAME: Rd 19 vs Carlton
This post got lost from last night, but here goes: Just back - a few thoughts in random order: May asleep on Curnow for the first two. Felt for Jeffo with the shanked kick and dropped chest mark in the second quarter but, to his credit, he worked his way back into the game and deserved his mark and goal. He really puts his body on the line - this isn’t Weid Mk2. He also should have had a free, as he was tripped right in front of goal, just before Clarry’s HTB wasn’t paid. Skills terrible - you can sort of see what they’re trying to do with the game plan but skills to execute are a long way off. Melky well held after the Q1 Kozzy fantastic Fritta played reasonably well - looked like he was being played on the flank early doors, which I didn’t mind. I couldn’t believe the stats were so heavily in our favour when I saw them: it seemed as though Carlton were marking everything, whereas we were playing butterball. Langford is a jet. Can’t hold the umpires responsible for the loss, but they were absolutely appalling tonight: armchair ride for 2 of Moir’s goals, and two ridiculous 50s. Felt sometimes as if they were getting an armchair ride up the field. Can’t see what Kolt is bringing to the team at the moment, unfortunately. Langford will be an absolute jet. It was actually a fun second half to watch, but those non paid frees in quick succession, completely killed our momentum. I’m not sure what the answer is re: Goody. You can sort of see what they’re trying to do, but how come 22 professional footballers cannot pull it off? Either your game plan is wrong for this group or it’s not being coached well enough. Hopefully, once our new CEO and President are installed, we will see some decisions made: we’re in rabble mode and, really, this season has been a dead rubber from the start due to no leadership and that’s not fair on the members.

PODCAST: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne
Welcome home Terrance! The thing that struck me at the game was how much better we look with Kozzy playing solely in the middle. Not only for his speed out of the contest, but his field kicking is laser sharp, which sticks out a mile in this team. Honourable mentions to Melksham, JVR and Langford also kicked well in the field.

Max and May after the siren
The Lindsay spray? I don’t know - normally this guy is in the AFL enclosure.
-
Max and May after the siren
A Pies supporting friend said that happened directly in front of him and he was shocked at May’s vitriol.

Congratulations Daisy Pearce - Inducted into AFL Hall of Fame.

KOZZY A DEMON FOR LIFE!!!
I believe they were involved with the Father Son program at the club, but not sure if they still are?

KOZZY A DEMON FOR LIFE!!!
Had a mate from Melbourne who played in that Cairns Lions flag a couple of years ago, could not speak highly enough of Flash.

Umpiring standard
Nor was it shown on the screen at the game. This often happens when there’s a big differential.

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
They do have better skills and execution, but I’d maintain that was quite a lucky win.

POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
On the train home from the game: that was a hard one to take. Boys played very well: a couple of brain fades at the end was all that was in it. Langdon did a great job on Daicos, especially in the first half. The umpiring most definitely had an influence on the game, but not the sole reason we lost. Pies just that bit cleaner and savvy - they were lucky today. All in all, a great effort and once we get cleaner use, we’ll be thereabouts.
