For what exactly - we don't know what was said? How do you feel about racial vilification? Should the stamping out of vilification of women be treated as any less important (well in fact it is, as Sherman got 4 weeks for racial vilification)?

So you know the full story do you? How about waiting until the circumstances are out there. I get the feeling there is much more to this as it would be extremely unlikely that a player would get fired up like Ricky did over something as tame as a "mother" joke. I recall in the NRL here in Sydney years ago, Mario Fenech, then playing for South Sydney Rabbitohs, suddenly burst out of a scrum and started hammering Balmain's Benny Elias (I think it was)... turns out that Benny had bee niggling with "hey Mario, zzzzzt, zzzzzt". Pretty harmless you would think, except for one minor fact - Mario had lost his brother through electrocution.

I thought it was interesting that players were named as having "stood up" (Tapscott, Trengove and Gawn) - maybe I'm reading too much into it, but could that be a thinly veiled message to a couple of players?

The "romantic" in me likes that notion too RR, as being a child of the early 50's, I grew up in the era of club loyalty and non-professional footballers; but the realist in me understands that the AFL has ensured that loyalty is a thing of the past unless a club is fortunate enough to retain a player long enough for that flame to ignite. My gut feeling is still that TS will stay, but if he doesn't, then I understand his reasons perfectly and will feel no malice toward him... just toward the system that allowed this situation to occur.

But what if he manages to keep it all together, has a 50+ goal season effectively getting us into the finals where the younger players can gain invaluable experience of finals footy pressure that will stand them in good stead when we make a real push for the top 4 (Fev or no Fev). In the meantime, Cook and Fitzy become the main focus in the forward line at Casey where they can develop their games and be ready to take over where the Fev leaves off. Yes, it's probably a big risk, but isn't that what footy is all about?

Well, on the AFL site there is now an article where Primus is refuting that report and stating that Cornes is a required player for next season... however, I get the feeling that Primus may not be a required coach at Port next year, so I'm not sure his opinion will carry too much weight.

As this thread deals with comings as well as goings, I notice Kane Cornes at 28 is no longer required at Port... he was winner of their best and fairest last year and I am wondering whether there would be any value in the club going after him as a player with some experience. I really don't care one way or the other, but I thought I would throw it out here for comment anyway.

That is true to a point, but there is the flipside in that he could get us into finals contention and that would provide invaluable experience to the younger less experienced players on the list. He would also cost us next to nothing which would mean we have a lot of extra dollars to go looking for a good big bodied forward (something we are definitely lacking) to come in when Fev's time is up and in time for a major push for the flag.

I like to think that the club is aware of all the timing issues and more than likely already has the word going out to all prospects. Also, I know this is just a discussion, but I doubt the club will be coming here for advice ;-)

I have no problem with him having a pre-season and possibly a full season or two... would allow Green to be moved up the field where he can get more ball and so wouldn't really impact the ability for the club to play Cook, Watts, Fitzpatrick, Howe etc. A forward line-up comprising Fev, Jurrah, Howe, Cook, Fitzpatrick and Watts (who has now proven he can move comfortably into the backline as well) could present a lot of problems for opposing teams when it comes to match-ups.

Fair enough... but I wasn't really being "precious" - just don't want to see you booted again.

I disagree with the notion that anyone should be booted for suggesting one of our players might be a liar, but this is a thread going by the title "Tom Scully", so for what reason would you argue that there is nothing new about sports people lying, other than to suggest that this equally applies to Scully? If I were you RR, I would give the whole truth/untruth thing a very wide berth. Having said that, I like to believe there are sports people who are also very forthright and honest and whose word can be trusted, and I like to believe that Scully is one such person. Time will tell.

I feel that if he does choose to stay with the club and forgo a much larger play packet, then the feeling in the whole club will be one of elation and I am certain that the playing group will be buoyed by the fact that he would rather find success with them than go elsewhere for dollars. If this happens, I think we will see a sharp upturn in our fortunes next season.

All of this talk about Scully holding the club to ransom (not in your case Demon17) and what we can and cannot afford is in my opinion, wasted words... the club will only offer what they think he is worth and what they can afford after taking into consideration all other factors such as Sylvia's contract issues and the impact on the rest of the playing group (I for one trust them to have been gauging the feeling within the playing group, particularly after the Junior debacle).

Since when has a journo ever worried about putting their "aggets" on the line... particularly when most of them have none to begin with? Would I be right in I supposing you think that used car salesmen have pangs of guilt when they sell you a lemon as well?

I think you will find that the club is over it and that Sheahan was trying to open an old wound, but with little success; although I'm sure he will still find something to write about it insisting there is still some residual ill will in the club.

+1 I agree - a lot of what has been said here is a case of reading between the lines between the lines. Green is no great media presence, but he certainly gave no answers that warrant the kind of reactions in this thread; unless of course, we have a few budding journos in here.
