Will the Big Russian get a farewell game?
P-man replied to The Lobster Effect's topic in Melbourne Demons
He's been solid in the twos and on the brink of selection for a number of weeks being named as emergency. Any logic that denies him a last game in the red and blue is flawed, and if logic isn't attempted then it's just plain petty. Let him play.- 85 replies

Tom McDonald is going to be the death of me. Gun defender who can run all day and find the ball with ease but can also find an opposition player with a pinpoint pass like no other. Please learn to kick, Tommy.

He's kicked a couple of memorable goals on the MCG, which is more than the man on the street can say. I loved his highlights, it's just a shame he couldn't develop his game further. Hard to tell exactly how much was attributed to the development environment the club provided and how much was attributed to his own skill and mindset. Either way, I won't throw personal slurs at someone I don't know. Good luck to him in the future.

Just read his "article". Glad he got all that off his chest. lol what a complete arsewipe.

Don't get me started on my disdain for Dwayne. It runs deep.
-
Dwayne Russell. Probably won't make the top ten of stupid things he'll say in this game. Hates Melbourne too and doesn't hide it.
-
Dwayne to commentate. Super.

*something positive*

Geeze Menzel looks classy though.

Bench is Watts, Newton, Grimes and Stretch. Would've liked to see Riley get a call up as his effort is non-negotiable, but looks okay otherwise. Stretch as the sub.
-
It's kind of fitting in a twisted sense. Nothing has come easy or gone to script for him as a player.

Not a bad effort. Three changes. Out: Vince, Deledio, Rioli In: Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Gray Rest looks pretty sound although Rory Laird will be very stiff to miss out. Mundy has also had an exceptional year. If you went with one ruckman then Mundy in for Sandilands would be the next swap and maybe Hodge with his suspension swapped for Laird. Bernie, like T Mac, has unfortunately played himself out of contention. Would need two BOG performances to reenter the frame and even then it will be tough. Should still make the 40 man squad.

Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...
P-man replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
"If supporters are telling you they are expecting to lose driving to the game, there's no doubt there's a vibe that must rub off on at least a small group of players. That's just something they [the players] have got to get over. I'm sick of talking about it." There's a "vibe" the supporters generate that must rub off on the players. That isn't causation? Fans have every right to take some degree of offence to the comments, though it will soon be forgotten if the team can be put in two decent, spirited performances to finish off the season. Hell, maybe even a win. -

"There's no doubt that there's this veil of negativity that exists, and I'm talking about the whole football club, and it's fuelled by everyone." Fair to say it's not what you want to hear coming from the senior coach who is two years into his three year tenure. "I'm talking about the whole football club" also seemed pretty clear cut, despite the backtracking since. Just get them up and going for the weekend. Deflection and poorly chosen words won't be required if there can be some actions to replace them. I honestly don't know why Roos has chosen to make the fans part of the discussion, even as a reference point. This is on the head of the players and coaches to rectify. End of story. -
Some serious questions need to be asked about our supporters and the media
P-man replied to TGR's topic in Melbourne Demons
Who were their players that had us easily covered? Murphy? Carrazzo? Some of their younger brigade have some zip about them but when I think Carlton I don't think lightning fast. Even if they were/are quicker, that isn't what beat us on the weekend. I would agree it played a major part in the Dogs dismissing us to the tune of 98 points so I agree with you overall in that we are the slowest side, more the point, slowest midfield, in the league. But we should have accounted for Carlton, and would have if the second half side showed up in the first half. I didn't even pump up his tyres. I merely mentioned his name as a useful asset in the future, which you would hope a number 2 draft pick whose hyped for his ability to break away from contests at speed will be. Recovery from injury not withstanding. You need to stop seeking out sorrow mate. There's plenty that will find its way to you following this club. Looking forward to seeing young players is one of the few things we have left. -

Interesting OP. Two things: - Thank god we have Brayshaw. The kid looks to be many things, but an introvert is not one of them. If Viney isn't the future captain of the club then Gus looks next in line to me. What we need is three or four more like him. But I maintain that the recent finger pointing at Jones isn't far short of disgraceful. Jones is not the problem with this club. - I can accept that "speed kills us", but I can't accept that as an explanation for the first half massacre at the hands of Carlton. They aren't fast, be it leg speed or ball movement. They beat us at what is supposedly our own game by being more ferocious at the contest and closing down space. But we absolutely do need more run and dare. Kent and Petracca's return will be a good start. -
I said a pass was getting out of the bottom four, whatever that required. If that remains the case, as bitterly disappointing as the last couple of weeks and the losses in general have been, I can't shift the goalposts now even if my inclination is to do exactly that. So it will be a begrudging pass. A win on the weekend actually would've pushed us up another spot to 13th. The fact remains that we need the opposition to only half show up in order to grab a win. The commentary when Melbourne win is often about how poor the opposition were. The sad thing is, that commentary usually has merit. But we're at a stage now where winning is what matters most. Doesn't matter how they come or who gets credit. This club needs to win games. 6 wins has gotten us out of the bottom four, but it's fair to say a lot of improvement will be needed in order to continue that rise next season. On form, we'd be close to the worst side in the league right now. There is definitely something salvageable from the last couple of games but for heaven's sake, they need to bring effort to give themslves a chance. The start to the game on the weekend is inexplicable after the embarrassment of the previous week. Somehow they need to dig deep and find something for the sake of the supporters cause really, it's beyond a joke now. Find something. Have some pride in yourself and your club and show the 35.000 members that their time and money isn't a total waste.

Get where you're coming from but he'll definitely play. As he should. He's the captain of the side and will be desperate to improve on his recent performances. You'd like to think the boys will lift for his 200th. If there's been a more admirable servant to this club in the last ten years I can't think of who it would be.
-
Once again I see little being gained in continuing to play Brayshaw. 1 tackle on the weekend when he was regularly piling on 6-9 in the first half of the season. Don't run the kid into the ground. If he's done for the year then he's done. We've seen what happens when the defensive side of the game falls away almost entirely. Select the 22 fittest and most dedicated players this week. Skills errors and fumbling the ball like it's lathered in soap are just expected now, but we can't accept a lack of intent and pressure when we don't have the ball. It is fundamental to being even remotely competitive.
-
One word to summarise this team would be reactive. As for yet another disgraceful day for this club, the club itself is stuffed and needs a mercy bullet.
-
Yep. I'm sick of the time I waste on this useless mob.

You have to wonder if this is fixable.

You seem surprised. -
I refuse to let the poor player development of the past dictate my excitement about the current crop.
