  1. I doubt either Nicholson or Evans will be upgraded to the senior list permanently next year. I think it will be more like what Jordie Mac did for us a couple of years ago, he stayed on the rookie list so we could get another draft pick, and then come onto the senior list to replace an injured player. I think that will give us more options and mean we will have to delist less players come the end of the year. As much as we like some of our current players we may need to off load some players who do show promise, as we have to delist someone, or hope for a stupid club (such as the Blues) to take one of our leftovers such as Dunn or Bate!
  2. I was there with some of my family, and there were some feral Tiger supporters and their young kids behind us. The game started with comments towards several Dees players, and all were ill informed comments. I stated to my cousin that I would need to control myself today. I decided to take a different approach and basically befriended the family, chatting as much as I could. It was great cos by the end of the day I could tell they were annoyed but could ont say anything as I was so friendly too them. I particularly loved their comments about Watts and how soft and favoured he is and how much they overrate their own players.
  3. Also love to see a player who has great agility and no problem to turn onto and use his left foot!
  4. In reference to Tarrant "monstering" green, on most occasions it happened because of the crap delivery to him, where he was 2 metres in front and the ball was put on his head, leading him to stop and then Tarrant came in. You can still have smaller, lead up players providing the job as a CHF. Especially considering most players play as a generic forward, not in positions like they used to. We have no real big targets, just a lot of smaller lead up attacking players.
  5. For people who think we are the only team who does this, well I am thinking you either dont watch many games or you dont eatch games carefully. Every team pushes their forwards up, that is the press. There were many times on the weekend when I saw other teams run forward with nobody to kick the ball too. Geelong did it many times! The thing that makes our forwards stay in the forward line is very simple. If you win the centre clearnaces the ball goes forward to your men already there, and once it is in there, the players need to keep it in there. If we dont win the clearance, then everyone pushes up and we have no forwards. That being said, I would love for 1 or 2 players to stay in the forward line, but that does mean we are outnumbered in the clearances and contests around the ground. That is the big issue for current day coaches, how to beat the press?
  6. He may make one or two errors, which many people love to jump on, however I am not worried when there is a 1 on 1 contest involving him. he will more than likely mark the ball, and that is what I like the most, he goes for his marks and trusts his ability. Some defenders spend too much time worrying about their opponents and dont have the ability to watch a man and the ball and then go for the grab. Also love his courage and attack on the ball and opponent.
  7. The other note, as Jack said in his on his on ground interview, his team mates are showing more confidence in him. They now know that when they give the ball to JW he will more than likely do something good with it. Last year they would ignore him at times or maybe less likely to use him, it seems now they have absolute faith in him. I loved his evasiveness the most yeasterday though, the way he evades tackles and sells candy, without really making a big show of it, it shows his great agility and body control. Will be a gun, no doubt in my mind!
  8. I hate that Demetriou is trying to justify the assistance they have given GWS by showing that other players have left in previous days. What he does not say is that those players left with no extra help from the AFL, no extra cash from the AFL. They left because they wanted to leave the original club for several reasons, but it was not the AFL making it possible. Whatever happens in the end, if Scully leaves, it will be for the money, and the money only. He cannot use the "home sick" card, the "wanting a new challenge" card. The AFL are loving what is happening and hope he leaves us. It is simple as that. Hopefully Tom Scully does not chase the cash, but I am certain Demetriou and his buddies want him too.

On a serious note, I loved how well he used his body in ball ups and throw ins, he was very hard to move, even for a big man like Hille. Not sure how much he will play once Jamar is back, but the future looks bright. Possibly way ahead of where the club thought he would be I am thinking.
  10. Exactly, I thought to myself after the game that there would still be people finding every error or problem with players. We all know that every player can improve, even the elite have defficiencies, but at least give credit where credit is due. Bennell has shut down 2 important players in the last 2 weeks and has slowly shown more confidence and dash. Morton showed he has pace, courage and flexibility to play in many positions. I think Cale just needs to be given the confidence to take the game on and play with more instinct to show his skills and attacking mindset, but I think he will be a very valuable member of the team. I cant wait until they play 5 or 6 good to great games in a row and people then try to jump on their bandwagons.

I think the best piece of play he did on the second quarter, which showed his development from his first two games, was when Watts gave him a crap switch of play in defence. He held off his opponent and beat another coming to dish a handpass off back to Watts and we escaped. In his first game last year we would never have seen that. His skills and decision making should improve with game time but lets not point out one mistake that could have cost the game beacuase if we go down that road I am sure we could point out many others from other players.
  12. Having watched the replay over and over again. 6. McKenzie 5. Rivers 4. Martin 3. Gysberts 2. Trengove 1. Blanket over everyone else but I will go with Howe. Honestly, there was not a single pllayer who did not put their hand up, even the usual whipping boys stood up and the newbies showed poise and effort.
  13. I agree that actions speak louder than words, and I hope they just give us 100% effort for 4 quarters tomorrow night, but Bailey cant win either way for many of you. If he says nothing you get angry, if he says something you get annoyed and say it is too late. Even that idiot McClure chimed in last night and said if Melbourne come out this week and try hard then they have a problem. We know we have a problem but what does he expect us to do, should we wait a few weeks and then try so that we cant use the bashing we have as a reason for our imrpoved game. Lets hope the players stand up and give us what we expect and then hopefully we can all be slightly happier with supporting a team who gives us all they have for the rest of the year.
  14. Lucky I have Bellchambers as my sub in Supercoach. Also, I bet you he will come back for our game in 4 weeks!!
  15. I was thinking about the old training drill we used to do as kids, where the coach would kick the ball out and you had to go 1 on 1 and get the ball and bring it back. I then pictured Newton and Kozi doing it an d I laughed to myself. It would be pure comedy. They would probably fall over themselves, bump each other over by accident, knock each other out or just run around like headless chicken only to accidentaly find the ball in one of their hands!
  16. I know people are allowed to share their opinions, as this is a forum, but I do wonder how some people think of their comments. It is obvious that we all have our favourites and our own whipping boys so we judge accordingly. To Don24 or whatever your name is (cant remember what your name was on your post) when you said Macdonald took too many players on and got tackled and then gave away a 50 at the start of the last quarter, watch the game. He took 2 steps and got tackled, bad vision, but not taking on too many players, and Davey gave away the 50! In terms of selections: Out: Newton, Taspcott, Bate and ????? In: Gawn or Campbell, Howe, Blease and Bennell for some pace I cant see them dropping Davey, especially with the injuries. I am thinking make him SUB At least MacDonald and Bartram and Jones have a dip and goes back with the flight. If they make 1 error so many people are all over them. I dont think we expect to win too many games in the next 6 rounds so it is time to stand up and give 100%. I know we would prefer to win, but under the current circumstances just effort and improvement is needed. Blood MORE youngsters and have a go. Just a question too, to those who bag Bailey's Game Plan (or so called plan, what is he doing differently to the other coaches (excluding the WCE game)? Is it his plan or the players lack of execution and decision making?
  17. Newton amuses me too, and I am hoping the fact he is tall and kicked a couple of goals does not deter the selectors from dropping him! He needs to go and give Howe a game and maybe Gawn too. It must be said, as bad as Newton may be, he is not Kozi!!!!! If he is not one of the worst players of all time to consistenly get a game I am, well I cant think of something to compare it too. Newton >>>>> Kozi ( which says a lot)
  18. Rhino I know the players are aware that they need to make a show of their attempts to release the ball, what I am disagreeing with is the way in which players these days just drop the ball, throw it or hold onto it and place it on the ground and release it only when they see a teammate. There are so many incorrect disposals these days, they are not even close to disposals, and that really annoys me.
  19. I am not sure if anyone is, especially myself, is whinging only about our decisions. I can remember when the Green decision was not paid that I said to my brother that was the best throw seen at ES since Billy Slater was there. We all hate the inconsistency and we are not the only ones to be hurt with poor decisions. Geisch actually said about the Tapscott tackle that as long as you make an attempt it doen not matter how the ball is moved on, that is fine. That is just wrong.
  20. Yes umpries have a tough job and it is a fast paced game, however they make far too many glaring errors, despite the fact they try to give stats to the contrary. They pay too many ticky touchwood crappy decisions and then miss blatant ones (such as petterd being tackled in a marking contest). The interpretations keep on changing, and this I can blame on Geisch and his people. I dont recall the AFL or the rules committee saying that now you can get rid of the ball in any manner, as long as you try, and then it is play on. By far the worst though, and the reason I think the rules and umpires are under so mcuh pressure, is the AFLs absolute love of speeding the game up and wanting to keep the ball moving. Because of that we now have so many incorrect disposals, stupid free kicks paid everywhere, rugby scrums going on and the clubs resorting to "pressing" in order to slow the game down. What is wrong with the game stopping? Why not ball it up straight away instead of allowing players to hold the ball for 5 seconds and then simply "drop" or throw the ball to a teammate? What is wrong with a 30 second break to see goal line technology come in? Why do we need to move so quickly? We have loved the game for what it was for so long and they keep changning it and unfortunately their justification is "more people are watching it than ever". I am guessing no matter what they do more people will watch it, because that is who we are, we will watch the game, but just leave it alone and stick to the REAL rules and common sense of hte game. End rant.
  21. I understand that the more money you pay you can often get better people, so I understand your point curry and beer. What I am trying to say is that some people blaming soft tissue injuries on the medical staff and assuming they dont know what they are talking about is just wrong. We can disagree or argue the point but most of the injuries we have are just those of luck more than anything.
  22. Curry and Beer, paying the most does not guarantee you will get the best, but it does quarantee you are paying the most! The way you and some others look at it you are implying that because we dont pay the most that our Doctors and medical staff dont know what they are doing. It is a shallow view in my opinion. They may be paid less but they are still proffessionals in their field.
  23. I am guessing that Hawthorn and there highly paid medical staff are to blame for all their knee injuries! Seriously, just becuase they pay a bit more does not mean their doctors are any better or that we have people who have no idea what they are doing. They may have some better facilities to help with recovery but to blame the staff is ridiculous. People spend too much time trying to find reasons or excuses to blame for our form.
  24. I would love to see Tom McDonald in the team. He looks a likely type and has the size.
  25. I then look at Jack Darling and see his body is already bigger than that of Jack Watts. He also has 3 other big men, not players of 190 cm, to help him and to take other defenders for him.
