Bailey might be able to solve one of MY headaches. Play Newton on Brown!! Now I've been all for playing Newton all year (or most of it) His last chance I beleive this year to prove he is worth keeping. His last 2 games he has been servicable as a fill in ruckman, but so far he still hasnt done enough. The limited time on the forward line today,he wasnt effective at all. So IF Brown was to knock him into next year,I can move on. And stop hoping Newton can step up another level. Edit: typos (getting late)

RalphiusMaximus' date='11 April 2010 - 09:04 PM' How do you see the matchups for that one? Frawley to Brown and Warnock to Fev? Or will Garland be up and running by then and take on Fev? Perhaps Warnock is a better choice on Brown because he's got a bit more size and strength? This is going to be a really interesting game to see how Bailey coaches and the choices he makes. What happened to 1 week at a time? We may have to play one player short up the ground. Double team Brown,he is red hot form atm. I'd play Frawley on Brown, Brown will out muscle Warnock, I dont think Warnock has the pace to go with Brown,he wont out bussle him. I'd double team Brown in a contest, maybe have JoelMac try cut across in packs, Garland on 'Fedup' Favolia. Not sure if 'old man' Rivers will be ready to go in time.

Winning the Toss - What would you do
DeeVoted replied to Maybe next year's topic in Melbourne Demons
Generally its better to kick with the wind. 1: Chance for it swinging around or dying later in a game 2: Puts scoreboard pressure on the opposition. 3: Bottle up their forward line in the next qtr. Downside = Bombing it long and wasting it, Then in OUR position, We dont have enough power marking fowards to take full advantage. Then there's the MCG factor, it tends to swirl around at ground level. -
'Dee Dee' date='11 April 2010 - 07:47 PM' Well! Well! Well! And I thought he was just a list filler! Silly me! Slippery little blighter isn't he! Great (effectively) second game from the young man. ------------------------------------------------- I'll fuss up as well. Havent seen much of him before the season began. Thought for sure he would have been cut, along with about 4 others. But I'm impressed so far, lots to like about him. I thought he was about to do what he did last week, that was kick the 1st goal of the match, but just couldnt get a handle on it,the chance was lost.

K-Mac really is the favour of the month. Just wondering how many picked him in their team for the start of the season? Anyone got time to review - who selected what in their team prior to the season kicking off? Could be interesting to keep tabs on who gets most selections correct. Of the Melbourne Players, I still pretty keen on Trengove Good build, hard at it, will get better as the season goes on.

I think we caught the pies with their pants down on Sat. Kicking the 1st 2 goals of the game helped us believe in ourselves, then it grew from there. We still made a lot of fundamental errors, and our lack of a power forward in the square found us out a number of times. But If we can continue to run and carry we proved we can worry the hell out of a teams throughout the year. We lack some high marking (contested) players all over the ground, Jamar is our best contested mark atm, pity help us if he gets injured. Morton , Sylvia, Pettard are about the only others that can consistently hold strong pack marks. The downfall is IF the opposition shuts down our run and carry, then we are forced to kick to contests, then we fall back into erratic handballs (hawks game) Adelaide will study the Pies game and work out a plan to stop that run and carry,if we dont run,or they nullify us,we need a plan B, I dont think we have a plan B. Keeping the lid on it for now, its going to be and up and down year.

His decline in form has occurred, funnily enough, with the decline in the team's form. Bruce passes to stationary targets. Turnover. His misses targets, sometimes because the targets are not moving quickly enough. He misses critical goals. --------------------- Has all the hallmarks of a player well down on confidence.

My only disappointment in the draft was D.Grimes. We could have passed on Joel MacDonald, and taken Dylan Grimes. Not that I think MacDonald wont be any good, but I would stuck on the youth policy. But what do I know, I wanted Robbo for another year, and would have taked Griffiths or Astbury or Black at pick 18. If we picked all the drafts we thought we should have got we would have 72 on the list. (42 all out injured). As it stands I'm happy with what we picked, only time will tell what draft picks will be most successful.

Firstly I dont like to see our guys being roughed up. But depends who;s doing what. Our 1st objective is get the ball. Whos; got the ball. Being 'sucked' in,will create a turnover. It's up to the umpires to decide what was fair and what isnt. If that isnt exceptable in some players eyes while in play the best way to handle it, is when running past the culprit in question, is to make it known 'do that again' you'll wont be walking off. We havent got enough big bodies to monster anyone, but bluff works. If one of our guys is getting set upon, then all players should come to his aid, but, where the ball is should be the 1st priority. Its all about chararacter building, taking care of themselves, up to a point. If they get sucked in, then their focus isnt the ball any more. Re 1958 GF WE GOT SUCKED IN

Lost Highway' date='28 March 2010 - 11:16 PM' OK, what is it? WTF IS IT? You are having a lend of us, surely. All I saw was Hawthorn taking it easy and the ball getting kicked over their half-back line's heads a couple of times. You are on the right track Is this the second coming? I almost did for my first time when I seen it

I have seen the game plan. It was like seeing the messiah. If you watch closely it showed signs in the last qtr. more clues? Looks good when it works (at training) Maybe they can do it under pressure. But its flawed .. at the last hurdle.

heartbeatstrue' date='28 March 2010 - 02:06 PM' Does anybody share my concern that if Watts is thrown into what we witnessed yesterday, he'll be crucified? ------------------------------------------------ I do. The smart move would be to play him with Casey until such time he shows he is a class above VFl defenders. To me that is giving him game time. Build up his confidence, and if he turns out to be as good as we hope,it shouldnt take too long before he shines,It also gives him time to add more bulk and learn to play against the men. Bailey etc said we need patience. This is an example, suffer short term for a long term gain. We are screaming out for a KPP, but at what cost. Make him earn a place in the seniors.

No I dont mean roll over and play dead. I just prefer to read positive constructive criticism not all this "knee jerk" stuff. --------------------------------------------- I agree with that. However, I accepted your right to say it as you see it. As I do on other posters, I dont need to agree nor comment. The knee jerk stuff, I skim through, the constructive stuff I take onboard. But we have that choice I wouldnt stiffle it. Each to their opinons. As you do yours.

[quote name='demonwithin' date='28 March 2010 - 08:20 PM' I can think of one (maybe two if I am being generous) but I would be interested to see what Demonland posters think Got any harder questions? nah wont use phone a friend for this one eddy. Pretty sure most of the oppostion players that played us have shown improvement Sarcasm had to do it

[quote name='demons27' date='28 March 2010 - 02:12 PM' What was Melbourne thinking to offer Bailey another year on his coaching contract. His performances to date have been very uninspiring.... --------------------------------------------------- I'll happily go on record to say I wasnt in favour when Bailey got the job. If we had made the finals since he got the nod, I would still say it, (inbetween eating humble pie). My man coached a team to 3 successive premierships, and I was hoping, praying just as much as I did, we would get scully and trengove, but it didnt happen, I was most disappointed. In fairness, its not all Baileys fault. he has a few more years to prove himself as the right person. I could name 8 players that shouldnt be there. They are just making up the numbers. He doesnt have a lot of options. Norm Smith might struggle with this lot. He was a genius. So like the new guys, time will tell. I wasnt expecting too much this year, its next year thats vital. Head hunting the coach right now wouldnt help anything.

[quote name='hangon007' date='28 March 2010 - 03:28 PM' Has anybody else ever considered that Demonland members would be better focusing their energies on - How to assist our off-field performance compared to wasting their energies trying to influence our on-field. ---------------------------------------------------- You mean roll over and play dead? On yesterdays performance I'd love to cut loose on what I thought. But enough people have said pretty much my thoughts anyway, so I'll leave it at that. If the team or player deserves a spray, then what better way to express it on here, and if others agree, then thats better than venting out on the dog! At least here will get a repsonse, good or bad and equals (usually) a good healthy debate. IF it becomes a personal attack then I would expect the moderators to step on it. We support the team through the good and bad. When they play well then I'm sure the praise will follow. Get it off your chest and move on. The next week is hope for a better effort. I would be surprised if anyone at the club quoted anything thats said here. We might hope, word gets around most supporters are pretty much pi$$ed off and they expect better. I joined here to express my views, postive and negative. If I'm ever wrong, somebody will put on the straight and narrow. if its goes way over the top,it will be deleted.

At this rate he'll be on the 'veterans' list before long. HaPpY BiRtHdAy Jack!

Hawthorn, regardless of some of their 'gun' players out. I think they still have enough talent to have us covered. We really need to get off start, whether that be holding them out for the 1st 20 mins, and not getting away. Or us making the most of our chances up forward. I'll be at the 'G' hoping for an upset, and it's all about giving our guys more experience.

I like the way Mac K attacks the footy. he IS a hard tackler, just what is required.. some grit & hardness. Hoping he has a good year, something to build on for next year. Spencer could turn into a surprise packet resting up forward. The more games under his belt will determine his best role.I'd like to see him and Jamar rest in a forward pocket for a spell, before hitting the pine.

I'll ask the question Who's going to stop TRENNERS?
