Now we have had time to reflect.. just wondered?. As for what we have got. I hope Bailey gives Newtown more game time. Even if he isnt our star forward. (I for 1,didnt expect him to be still here). If he wanted to be our FF, he should have shown more by now. But seeing he is still on the list,I say let him sink or swim. Martin shows promise, big guys take longer to come on,so maybe a rotation off the bench would work for them. Davey on a flank/wing Green on the other, maybe switch to FF at some stage during a game. There's Aussie, when fit. Dunn as other. Watts probably should spend most of this year with Casey. But we are desperate for a goal-kicking forward,so he might have to face the music, sooner, than later. The options are there, just no 'gun' forwards atm. In time 1 or 2 might be.

Having watched most of our 'open' training sessions, and thought we would really struggle up forward. I didnt agree with Robbo not given 1 more year. Before anyone jumps on me cause they dont like Robbo, here's what I thought would happen. After today,if I wasnt convinced before, I am now. Firstly let me defend my comment. Robbo was a proven goalkicker, with experience, that required a 'top' opposition backman to go with him. That takes some pressure off the in-experienced forwards (ie Jurrah & co) After watching todays game we could have used him,to have another avenue to goal. At least today we did manage to improve in getting beyond our 50. There are a couple that are very very lucky to have remained on our 'rookie / senior list. Lets not name names but we all have an idea whom. The downside of course, there is always a downside, would he have stayed fit,he didnt always to the 'team' thing, but most times gave his all, better than some atm, that run around getting nowhere. Then there is the arguement that he wasnt going to be the future of a young team. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, when things arent going right, its easy to point the finger.... blah blah So my question, anyone else think we could have kept him on for another season? Just interested if anyone thought the same.

Heard on SEN that Morton's injury is more serious than the reports have been here and is having scans on his knee tommorrow to see wether his season is over or not. He is having a routine check, wont know the outcome of how bad it is until its examined. Knowing our 'good?' luck with injuries it'll be a full reco. Hope its just bruising. Keeping everthing X'd here.

Much better effort from the team today. Grimes killed them Petterd was dangerous all day in the forward line. Scully - Trengove didnt blitz but showed class in patches. Jurah was held quite, started at full forward then later moved up the ground, did better, tried hard. Jamar held his own rucking, maybe even won on the day. Bell & Bartram (surprise surprise) did some good things both put in all day. But they need to do more. Sylvia took a qtr and a bit to get into the game. Showed his class with some great grabs,He'll improve. Pretty much a good effort by all the rest against a better team, with cleaner disposal. We had some silly errors, Thats understandable But at stages moved the ball as good if not better than Essendon. But the better side won.But they can hold their heads higher on todays effort. I;m sure others can go into more details, but thats my short take on it. Go Dees. (PS) Heard Morton copped an injury, Not sure how bad

Good to have them back onboard! Now to sign up Red Bull.. we can use some power

?? Cameron HUnter ?? Where did you pull that from? Let me guess... Hunter had the build of a matchstick. Tapscott is very solid. That is chalk and cheese. Hoping he makes a full recovery. But I dont expect him to do much this year.

Apart from being a good mate of Trenners,he is also a thumping kick. Personally I like the look of this kid.Given a few years,I think he could badly bruise a few oppentents. (another Viney)

CONFIDENCE = 1 word If they can string a couple of wins together it will make a big difference. Its a young team ,with a few players that have been around for awhile (apart from about 3 -4 that would walk into a top 4 team) we havent got much to brag about. Those guys would/will be under heaps of pressure (mentally) to perform, put on by themselves. Firstly trying to impress, secondly to show what they can do. As I suggested in other threads, I would expect them to be pushing top 8 in 2 years time. This year (hopefully) to 'gell' and get used to playing good footy. I am not hitting the panic button, I'd give it to mid year, and see where we are at. Next year should be the crunch year for Bailey, if the team isnt going anywhere, then its time to re-access his position. Up until now.. last year they hit the brakes, for draft picks, and for reasons unknown, we have been getting murdered with injuries to important players, this isnt new. THAT worries me. WHY,WHY, why did they fire up when Jimmy announced his illness. They shouldnt need that kind of motivation, but they proved they can do it. Until then, suck it up and sit tight. Someone needs to put the 'devil'back into the Demon. The jury is still out on the Bailey factor.

Tho disappointing,I for one aint worried (yet) We had 4+ that played that are not ready. Had some of our experienced guys way down Had to travel to Perth, with a young side. Bailey has thrown just about everyone he could to all parts of the ground. (last year) This year I see as a bonding year, and get them used to playing together, hopefully in the best positions. We had 1/2 dozen experienced players unavailable I'll wait til mid year before writing them off. If they are still crap in 2112.... lets not go there. I dont barrack for collingwood. I'm not about to start bagging the MFC and all involved. I'm hanging in there.

I have been coming to Demonland for approx 10 months. I have read most opinions of members here, Some good healthy debates, some I agreed with, some not.But in general its been great to read what others have to say. So I decided recently to register. What I havent seen is anyone talking up getting bums on seats. There is a thread to meet at tower 2 @ the "G". We wonder why we get bumped off the "G" We just dont get a big enough crowd to our games. We will, when we string a heap of wins together. But in the meantime, our young team needs a heap of support.Playing in front of a decent amount of supporters,we spur them on,maybe we can shout down the other teams that have larger support. I am just as guilty as anyone, I'll go... nah wont go. This year I'm making a bigger effort to get there. As Stynes requested, he wants to see more supporters at our games. Count me in,and anyone I know,I;ll be in there ear. Carn; Dees

Hmmm That explains a few things. Every time I've been at training, all he has done was honing his reflexes with handballs against the net.I;ve been down there 5-6 times. Bummer! On a brighter note, I had a good chat (I wont name drop), BUT someone very close to Trenners, told me he loves it @ Melb. Tho does miss his mates back home. So that was good to hear.

The cat was let out of the bag on the weekend. Mack Doorpan from STM 1117 sports radio was out golfing on the weekend. He mistaking locked his golf bag in the boot of his car. Unfortunately the car keys were in the golf bag. So he rings roadside assist to unlock his car. He unlocks the car, then Mack gets the keys from his golf bag. Mack "What a day to forget!" Not only do I do this, but our golf cart, broke down on the 15th hole" Roadside guy, "Funny you mention golf carts" Mack Doorpan, Why's that?" Roadside, "Management wanted some of us to attend football games next year." Mack "What for?" Roadside "Seems we are required to be there in case any carts breakdown" Mack "Carts?" Roadside Dunno, said something about the umpires using then in the NAB cup Anyway gotta go,another call" Oh the way home Mack Doorpan arranges a meeting with the head honcho at league HQ for Monday morning. Arrives at the leagues' penthouse building to question whats going on. Mack Doorpan "Whats this I've heard unpires using golf carts next year in the NAB cup?" Head honcho "How the %$#@ did you find that out?" Mack "Nevermind that, what's the story?" Head honcho " I had a call recently from Gleeshine, says his umpires are requiring up to 3 days rehab after a game. They are getting knocked about too much during games,if it doesnt improve we wont have any. He said its bad enough they break a nail or two, having a ball thrown back at them. The medical bills, and layoffs are going to kill us. They come in with some bruising, they can't cope! The game is getting way too rough. Footballers dont care if an ump gets in their way, they will go through them if they have too, All they care about is getting the damn football. No consideration at all for our precious umpires. We tried fining them and suspensions, its not stopping the problem. We are going to have 2 extra umpires in carts on the fence,on both sides of the ground. When there is a stoppage, the maim field umpire will wave them on. The advantage of the carts is the ump is protected, and as an added bonus when he feels the need the to reverse, the cart beeps to warn it is reversing. When the ball is thrown up, plays begins, the carts quickly leave the area. Mack Doorpan "What about a player? What if he is struck by the cart?" Head honcho " Not worried about them, MUST protect the umpires! Besides if a player is struck down, or killed. We stop play throw them in the back of the cart, hardly any time lost. Could also sneak in a few extra commercial breaks, when reading the last rites. Mack "players union wont be happy" Head honcho Can't see an issue, way too many kids miss out being drafted bigger turnaround for players, its a win win" So what if a few players get hit,or crippled for life. I'll give them a job in the cart. Mack Doorpan "Why is it every bloody year there is a need to keep changing the rules?" Head honcho Look its simple, over the last 5 years we did a survey. Todays players are used to playing at school against opposite teams, they can wear red, green, yellow shirts. So the coach tells them dont worry about the opposition, just get the ball at all costs. Its ingrained at a early age. Our umps now wear different coloured shirts. They are being knocked about. Nack Doorpan "Then change the umps back to white, simple!" Head honcho Can't do that! We have to be seen to be moving the game forward. Thats past history, I can't sit here all week getting paid squillions. Gotta be seen to be doing something. I have spoken to Kelvin Barlet, he loved it Anything to confuse supporters and players. We have NASA working on a propulsion for ball throw ups, put the ball on the cart hit a button whooosh, 5 meters into the air, they struck a hitch with dry to wet balls reaching exactly the same heights, but have til Feb next year to modify it. As a bonus any player caught gouging tyres, with their stops or removing the air valves to let the tryes down, its an automatic 5 week suspsension and / or $5000 If its that Harry Ball from the Dogs, they have permission to run him over. That reminds me, I must inform the Bulldogs, any of them caught peeing on the carts tyres,or chasing the cart, will be harshly delt with. Mark Doorpan from STM 1117 Sports radio reporting. Will be chatting to Teddy Quadmire at the pies later. The Moral is... when will they stop messing about with rule changes, how will they go?

At a glance standing on a Freo players left have a split second to shoot out the ball, It can be mistaken for our player, made worse on wet muddy days. From behind a Freo player, the red on their shoulders and also be mistaken. Looking front on not a problem. Collingwood / North - Carlton / Fitzroy were probably the worst to pick on wet days.

IF we get Barack Obama, doesnt that mean 'the pies' automatically draft Bin Laden, Looking up rule 244 on the draft rules as we speak

Collingwood Family Day this Saturday
DeeVoted replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
Any jihds scheduled for this saturday? Hmmm none huh? Then I hope Rudds' nephew got an invite. His outfit kinda tied in with back & white. Ok I'll pray for rain then -
I hate comparing eras. There are too many variables. ie how would bradman stack up in todays era? I hate that. He was the best around (and still has the best batting ave) so leave it be, Pharlap?? Our team of the mid '50s to 1960. Those teams also had the benefit of bonding in a U19's & reserve teams. Therefore I dont like comparing......but my point I was making is if they start believing its all going to happen in 3-4 years time, who knows whats going to happen while they wait. They have to start believing in themselves NOW. It should take 2 seasons to fine tune the lineup, (injuries will determine a lot as well) dump a few passengers, recruit and stregthen a few positions. If get a bit of believe & confidence, get on a roll, cant really see why a young team cant push for a GF berth in a couple of years time. Luck will play a big part. Our problem is we still have a few that arent quite up too it.But no side is ever going to be perfect. Team effort boys! There's no 'I' in team.

Here is one to start off. 1: Freo designs club colours /jumper very similar to ours (MFC) 2: GC also has red & blue in their club colours I havent seen West Sydney yet, but IF they have red & blue somewhere in there I am going to Screeeeam! I didnt think I;d say this but the pies stood firm on alternative jumpers. Good for them. Cant tell me there's no designer that cant come up with a nice looking jumper without using red & blue in there. I'm not a big fan on our 'white' alternative strip either. We are 'red & blue' SO all those 'johnny-come-latelys... get your OWN colours. Thats my winge! Any more takers?

Dont mention paranoid & injury in the same sentence.

Like most I was rubbing my hands after grabbing the 1st 2 picks in the draft. I figured I was owed that much after 2 disaster seasons. (yeah it hurt). to hell with tanking, hitting the handbrake, call it what you may. I then started to weigh up the possibilities with our young-to-be-star lineup. I figured 2 seasons they should be pushing hard for a top 8 or better. (no flag yet). Then I wondered how long it took the sides of 54-60 to get their act together. Well it seems the '56 side was younger and had less experience (games)of our young demons of today. Interesting stats I thought, after doing some checking, I'm no longer giving them 3-4 years. The time is now. Time to extract the digit boys!
