  1. Lloyd is not talking about analysing or reviewing data, or being short-staffed in the back office. He's talking about monitoring (= collecting) GPS data. Which you do with a GPS unit. "only some players at the Demons can be monitored each session as they don't have the funds to monitor all players" Lloyd's meaning is crystal clear, and is that a) we don't have enough GPS units and B) the reason for this is that we don't have the funds to buy them. Which is also what Craig responded to.
  2. Seeing we're all being very pedantic here, he didn't speak to "the" players, he says he spoke to "some of the" players. Though given how poorly the relevant phrase is written, hard to make any deductions at all: "I was staggered with the limitations the Bulldogs and Melbourne players have when chatting to some of them during the week" Based on that, it's not an article about GPS units or the lack thereof, it's an article about how the players aren't much chop at using Twitter.
  3. You're being selective and even erroneous with your dates and ages. Martin is 25. He'll be 26 at the end of this year, and will play next season as a 26 year old. If he stays for Jamar's 3 years, he would be 28 for season 2015. Collingwood (and if rumours are to be believed, other clubs as well) are into him for a reason.
  4. On that premise, neither Hawthorn or the Swans will ever get close to a grand final, because most of their lists didn't get over 3 votes either, and are by your definition, "spuds". Not to add, Collingwood who've been in or close to Grand Finals for years now, and whose recruiting has been widely praised on this board, are the ones who are into Martin. Obviously, they're just trying to build a team full of spuds.
  5. Quality of discussion on Demonland high as usual.
  6. Thread title isn't correct. I don't know that we ALL thought we got it wrong.
  7. Well, I'm a kind of "big picture" kind of guy, and I think that the club is trying to build Trengove into the kind of all-round A-grade player that we all hope he'll become. If that takes a few small steps back along the way to develop and consolidate areas of his game that are (were?) lacking, then fine by me. I for one also felt that it started to work for him, and later in the season he started to show a bit - at exactly the time when younger, tired bodies are supposed to fade. 21 disposals, 6 marks and 5 tackles in a losing side in the last game of the season isn't too bad. To add to that, it takes years for (most?) players to develop and consolidate, and Trengove wouldn't be the first "young gun" to have a few up and down seasons till he finds his mojo. As a for example, Dayne Beams has had the same, presumably, high quality coaching and facilities for 4 years, but it's only this year that he's taken it up a notch.
  8. Fair enough, but Bailey didn't have the facilities, the resources or the Neil Craigs to work with either. There's no single reason, it's the bigger picture and how all of the parts fit together. Trengove said something along the lines of "we didn't know what it took to be AFL footballers".
  9. Yeah, we could probably even get Bailey and his team back in place.
  10. It's a joke right?
  11. Talk about ill-informed. Following the same logic, Adelaide should have gone backwards because they signed up Dean Bailey.
  12. Demonland in a nutshell.
  13. You too eh ... gonna be a long off-season.
  14. You flatter yourself. The majority are happy to take Viney at 3 if necessary. And Harrington did NOT say that we wouldn't be taking Viney at 3. Thank god we're not cutting down any trees for this thread, what a waste of space over something that's a foregone conclusion.
  15. At pick 3, you'll get a pick 3 in this year's draft. You won't necessarily get a top 3 player. Here's some recent 3rd places in the Brownlow, they're a pretty good measure of the "top 3 player" that you want and where they come from: 2011: Matthew Boyd. Taken 22 as a Rookie, and Scott Pendlebury. Taken Pick 5 2010: Dane Swan. Taken pick 58 2009: Lenny Hayes. Taken pick 11 2008: Equal between two F/S picks (Richardson and Ablett), Goodes (pick 43) and Franklin (pick 5) 2006 and 2007: Daniel Kerr. Taken pick 18 2005: Nick Del Santo. Taken pick 13 etc. etc. Not a pick 3 amongst them. Not even a pick 1 or 2, and with the exception of Franklin and Pendlebury (2 out of 10), not even a pick in the top 10. But carry on ...
  16. FFS, get over it. He's top 10, that's close enough. The difference between pick 3 and pick 7 in 5 years time will be utterly, utterly irrelevant. Look at the Caddy situation - taken pick 7, two years in the system, and no-one wants to pay even second round for him. Except for the odd exception, the players from any given draft that turn out to be A-graders, club captains, AA etc. etc. do not come from the top 10. Viney. Fine, bring it on, wherever it is. He's our boy.

Worth reposting over on the various "should we take Viney at 3" threads, where people are constantly salivating over any number of "highly-rated-by-consensus juniors", and doing themselves physical harm because we mightn't be able to take them because we're locked into Viney.
  18. Yes. If it was Collingwood or Geelong talking to Green your point, such as it is, might have some validity. Going to be a long off-season on Demonland.
  19. Jake Spencer: Round 21: 15 possessions, 24 hitouts Round 22: 13 possessions (85%), 21 hitouts Pity he doesn't have dreadlocks.
  20. You don't know what goes on Monday to Friday at the club - behind closed doors.
  21. Perhaps not after tonight's performance ...
  22. I would argue that that's not strictly true, given that he missed most of (all?) the last pre-season - which would have been his first full one - with his hip operation/recovery. The fact that he's been moved on says more about his off-field preparation and attitudes than it does about what Misson and co. can or could do with him. In any case, it's going to be interesting seeing what happens with him in the longer term. I wouldn't write him off 5 years down the track with a bit more maturity, some meat on him, and perhaps some decent experienced players around for him to model himself on. But we obviously aren't prepared to wait and to take that chance, which is fair enough.
  23. Agree, but I think we will - though perhaps 2-3 years down the track, or even later. I think he might have a couple of seasons in the SANFL, and then will get picked up by one of the SA clubs.
  24. Excellent summary there of what actually happened at the time. I am at a loss as to why we go round and round this "we didn't even interview Martin" line. It's obvious why, and was the correct decision at the time. I also feel that it would be the correct decision even today. Martin is very good, but whether he can keep it together as a professional footballer over 10+ years remains to be seen. For me, 2-3 years is still much too early to be assessing drafts and slashing wrists. Let's wait at least 5-7 years (e.g. Nathan Jones) to see what level players are really going to be able to reach - and to hold.
