  1. I think we did incredibly well to select Sylvia as he has all the talent in the world, but injuries and attitude have held him back until very recently. Attitude is something that probably should've been corrected earlier, but also was exacerbated by the injury problems.
  2. Narcissistic losers..? I'll have you know I'm a mild sociopath, thankyou very much.
  3. I'm sure collingwood supporters could've never come up with that...
  4. Jetta will too if he can squeeze into the team.
  5. Panos is very good at a lot of things at U18 level and will be a fantastic career SANFL player. Nothing more.
  6. Really? As much as people criticize Fraser I still think he's overrated. He should be able to do a lot more with the attributes he is lucky enough to possess. He doesn't. (and he looks like Lauren Jackson)
  7. You sure? That means we won't get him in the years when the draft is pillaged by either GC17 or GWS as I was hoping... Now we'll be forced to use a much higher pick on him. The timing has worked incredibly well for the doggies in this respect... assuming Libba & Wallis are the goods.
  8. Is there anything particularly wrong with our current Forward coach setup? I think Mahoney has done ok considering the resources available to him and development needed in a lot of those players. I've seen some promising setups and set plays, which I'm sure have gone unnoticed by many.
  9. From my past experience in printing I know it almost impossible to get a good strong dark red, and Cam Schwab has mentioned this previously (I can't remember where, but i did note it). In an effort to get it darker it often will start to look more like a maroon or worse. I honestly don't think they'll succeed. Our red next to that of Essendon, Sydney, Adelaide or the Doggies would be almost exactly the same. I can guarantee that. Would love a sharper V though. The nexk issue I understand aesthetically, but I'm there is a very important functional reason for it to be like that. Similar to the tightness and tapering of jumpers to inhibit tackling, or patches for drying hands on the backs of shorts.
  10. Interesting choice of words... I think its maybe worth wording him up for 2011 or 2012, but i'd give him zero chance of coaching in 2010 considering he has already committed his time to something else.
  11. Well... we need to do nothing. The club needs to ensure it has a capable ruck coach in place. Hopefully the best in the business. But as we have no idea who that may be, or who is on offer, or who the club is targeting... then what exactly is there to discuss?
  12. I think Cheney is far from a sure thing and is lucky to even be on the list for 2010. As you keep preaching: everyone is entitled to have their opinion and voice it.
  13. Did you find that definition in the dictionary?
  14. He was serviceable in spite of injury problems. I wouldn't be opposed to the idea. It is a lot harder to speculate on coaches as a supporter, as, unlike the individual's football ability, none of us has any idea how capable they are in the fields of teaching, understanding the game, analysis and communicating ideas. Best leave this to the professionals as we have not even limited evidence of these things; we actually have none whatsoever. And results themselves aren't always a true indicator either - you could have the best coach in the AFL, but if he's trying to teach a donkey how to play ruck, chances are he will not succeed.
  15. Yeah, I get that... but I think for them Luke Ablett would be a decent pick up, so potentially, there is one of their 2 spots for mature age recruits already gone. I'll be pleasantly surprised if one of Meesen or Newton gets taken, but until then I'm going to consider it very very unlikely and move on. Not sure exactly who we'd be hoping to take in the event it does happen anyway. Grimes would be nice but I expect him to go to Essendon in the PSD. Patrick I'm still not sold on. I just don't know where he fits in an AFL side and I'm not convinced his freakish abilities are that freakish at AFL level.
  16. For me, its not so much about an incredibly clever play on words, but moreso something I can reasonably imagine hearing fans call said player without me cringing... and reasonably what you could expect a nickname to evolve into from its original intention, or what his mates would actually call him... you know, something that actually sounds like a fair name that people could be bothered saying. Scully - Bones is by far the best suggestion I've heard so far Trengove - JT. Anything else suggested sounds a bit awkward. Gysberts - Giz / Gizza / Jordie Tapscott - Tappa Gawn - Fish Fitzpatrick - Fitzy Surely one or 2 of these guys will do something or say something ridiculous that will end up giving them a name like the Russian or Bad Boy Billy, etc.
  17. To be honest, I like the look of him and have high hopes for Gawn, but to say "he can take a grab" as many have... from his limited highlights he does tap it to himself a bit, not exactly a brilliant one grab overhead mark. It does show good ball control and smarts which excite me, but at AFL level to use the term "he can take a grab" he'd want to be plucking them overhead with outstretched arms. His height advantage won't be as great when he steps up. All the best Max, may you be a dominant ruckman for the MFC for many years to come. But a few people are getting well ahead of themselves...
  18. Luke Ablett would be a good one for GC17
  19. Well according to Schwarz himself, not a coach anywhere in the near future. Obviously he may change his mind.
  20. It might seem like a missed opportunity to redraft Meesen and Newton when there are more appealing types left for the Rookie Draft... but as HT said, none of them are the type that we really need. Whats the point in picking up a couple of extra list cloggers that have minimal chance of being in our best 22? Yes, you can find gold like Davey or Aussie, but its a big risk and I'd not take it if it costs MFC their reputation for seeing out contracts and for fair & reliable business dealings. These things mean a lot to players and their managers, and I'm already sick of the whingeing by posters that no big names spurning trades/PSD to MFC even though we are the wooden spooner. Burning Meesen and Newton will ensure this continues to happen even if we become a top 4 side.
  21. I'd agree with that to an extent. Miller is a fantastic lead up forward, can get the ball and take a strong grab, but using the footy is definitely his achilles heel. Kicking for goal is suspect and confidence driven, but in terms of using the footy he is only really effective when the best option is very obvious. If nothing jumps out at him he becomes indecisive and lacks the vision to find a more obscure option that the great players can find. He plays better when he plays on directly after taking a mark and with an open forward line so the options present themselves to him in an obvious manner. Hence he sometimes plays on at inopportune moments. Not an uncommon problem, but I think he struggles with this more than most with this aspect. Either way, he will be more of an asset with a better midfield. Not sure they'll develop quick enough to save his skin, or maybe Watts will develop too quickly.
  22. Scott West has absolutely nothing to do with what players we selected in the draft. No bearing whatsoever.
  23. The pity is the way he often uses it once winning the ball...
