  1. I love it, but only pre-game when it is reasonable to play the song. Failing that, AFTER a win. Not during the song being played over the PA system though, that's naff. I've not noticed it before a game has ended, but that is arrogance and making an assumption that reflects on all of our supporters. Don't like that one bit and if I was anywhere near him I'd stuff my sock in his trumpet.
  2. This is not based on any rumour at all, merely the fact that he has stated he would like to take on a Dean Laidley-type coaches' mentor role as we've seen this year at Port. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/mark-williams-keen-on-dean-laidley-role/story-e6frf9jf-1225891266822 Williams is keen for this role and will probably end up in Melbourne - why not at the dees? As we climb out of debt, we will have the opportunity to spend on 'luxuries' of this type. Besides the fact we already have a Mark Williams on the coaching staff and it would be a bit confusing, I think it could have a possibly have a valuable effect on the coaches and the playing group. Williams is still regarded as a great coach and Bailey was an assistant under him at Port. There is already a relationship there with Mahoney also. Of course, I think it also leads to speculation that the "mentor" is waiting in the shadows to take over and in Choco's case it probably lead to him leaving the club earlier than Port had intended. Also, I know Connolly is technically football manager, but I assume he acts in this role at times already due to his experience at Freo. Just throwing the idea out there - any opinions..?
  3. IN: Bail, Morton OUT: Joel MacDonald, Cheney PJ should go too, but I want a second ruckman so that Jamar doesn't crumble.
  4. I read it exactly the same way. Also when Bailey discussed the need to bring in a big forward... essentially Miller's role. The writing is on the wall...
  5. MacDonald is a stop gap until the kids develop. Not a long-term prospect.
  6. I think it'll be great for the sport and great to have Essendon wasting their time on trying to convert him to an AFL player. I think any of the rugby converts, irrespective of their athleticism, will be mediocre AFL players at best. They aren't as good athletes as Naitanui and look at him. What they do bring to the sport is media exposure in new markets and that is invaluable at the moment.
  7. Uh... no it was FACT. Neither had played an AFL game at the time. Now, based on what I've seen, I'd still trade Blease for Boak in a heartbeat, but not Gysberts. It's very simple, I'm not sure why you struggle to understand the concept. Edit: and I have no idea why you're talking about youtube... maybe that is where you get all your opinions?
  8. Not long now before the Darwin Turtles sign Jared Hayne...
  9. I'd love to beat Carlton, but Ratten is talking out of his backside. Watts is starting to take games by the scruff of the neck?? Maybe one day, but not yet.
  10. From what I saw of Sylvia in the ruck he did better than what we'll get from Newton.
  11. I think Bartram to play a lockdown role on Garlett and Bennell on Betts, but running forward hard and often to make Betts accountable or exploit his lack thereof. Yarran I'm no so worried about yet. Waite will be coming back into their side after his 2 week suspension and I'd put Warnock on him. Frawley on Setanta and once again try to exploit him on the rebound. I think aside from their midfield experience we match up fairly well against them.
  12. So... you're judging this based on what exactly? The fact he doesn't rant and rave in the after-match press conference? I guess you think Mark Thompson and Ross Lyon are dud coaches too...
  13. Wait - how tall is he again..?
  14. Believe what you want to believe, but that had nothing to do with it. I've no idea what gives you this irrational idea that Bailey was trying to protect them from the big bad Geelong bullies. If that were so, why did he play a scrawny kid like Gysberts in the middle..? And don't overestimate the impact playing against Geelong's midfield would have had.
  15. Geelong also didn't field their best team. You'll find that week-to-week very few teams field their best team, due to injury, or injury management, if you will. That's essentially what we did. To believe otherwise would be foolish.
  16. hahahaha always good for a laugh freak. Does being 192cm affect your kicking..?
  17. For those insecure few in need of some positive reinforcement of how good we should become: today on the Sunday Footy Show Bill Brownless said we remind him of this Geelong side in its early days, straight after he gushed about how good Gysberts was for a first-gamer. Relax and enjoy the ride.
  18. Interesting to see that both us and Port had ~50 point losses after that energy-sapping game up in Darwin. Obviously the opposition we both played against were vastly different, but it is interesting nonetheless. Ideally we could play this game before a split round or a bye (however the fixture works out), but not sure if that will mean it can't run concurrently with the indigenous round. Something to consider going forward.
  19. Is it possible to try "too hard"? Maybe trying to do too much, but I'm not sure about trying too hard.
  20. If you paid attention last year the improvement actually started to show in the latter rounds of the season.
  21. You forgot Stefan Martin. And if you're thinking of claiming he is not a ruckman you are dead wrong. He's as much a ruckman as any of the 3 you mention as being injured.
  22. I think we must. And I can't conceive the emblem not referencing our many premiership wins also. I think that is one thing lost on a lot of opposition or neutral supporters - how strong we once were.
  23. Just because your friends are either bad comedians or ignorant... It's like not knowing who that is on the footy show logo.
