  1. I think we need to begin campaigning for the AFL to change the rules, allowing more players on the field.
  2. He currently is predominantly an outside player, but I've yet to see him handball at his teammate's feet because he's worried about getting hit. As he fills out, he will play inside more and put his body on the line more... or he'll play in the VFL.
  3. That situation showed the very opposite, for the more astute amongst us. Cale was happy to get into a bit of the physical stuff against a much bigger opponent in Brendon Lade. Those that were there would know that off-screen there was a turn-over that Morton recognised and he was quick off the mark to make an option for his teammates, with the ball actually being kicked in his direction. Obviously in the video it looked like he was running away scared after a cheeky bit of push & shove, but the fact he got involved in that to begin with sets him apart from Bruce imho.
  4. A pragmatic appraisal of Bruce is not "bashing". But I don't wish to get into an argument about him. Cale is an outside player predominantly, but does not avoid physical contests in the same way. It's that simple.
  5. It's like robbing Peter to pay Paul Allen... who only loaned you $3.30 in the first place and isn't concerned about getting it back.
  6. Bruce played in a different era and I dare say he wouldn't get the same accolades with what is required of players today. But this is not a Bruce argument. Morton I simply see as being better because he does not avoid physical contact in the same way.
  7. That's how I see it. The exact definition of "minor", to my understanding, refers to the latter. edit: Semantics! I think we should all be able to agree, that irrespective of how the young girl retaliated, she has been appallingly mistreated by the Saints. Hopefully this episode will serve as a warning to young girls and AFL players alike. I won't hold my breath.
  8. Maybe to take a straw poll, analyze the result and dispel a seemingly common misperception that Garland is anything other than a KPD? I mean, to contend that he is a winger, for example, is pure lunacy. But we've come to expect that.
  9. That's the whole point - he needs to build up some power in his legs to be like that. It's not beyond him.
  10. Very simplistic and not necessarily correct view of the matter.
  11. I agree. Cale needs to build some power an explosiveness through his legs. I'm confident it will come with time. His major hurdle at the moment is physical, but that will change. This is why I am so confident he will be a weapon, just that it will take longer. In 2010 he was coming off a knee injury and before that surgery in the offseason where he lost, iirc, 7kg.
  12. It was a PCL in the last quarter against Essendon at Visy Park, or whatever they call it these days.
  13. That's such a vague term that it's meaningless... if you ask me.
  14. Not sure how you missed it. Goddard was widely regarded as a bust for a number 1 pick, well into his 4th year. He always had great potential and was versatile, but just didn't do enough to stand out over the course of a match. A victim of his obvious talent. I had a few Saints-supporting mates who wanted to trade him 4 years in because they thought he'd never take the next step. tell me... if "a big tank and lots of touches will not be enough", what will be enough, then?
  15. I agree and have been a vocal supporter of his in recent times. The guy is on a steep development curve at the moment, similar to Goddard, but I had no doubt he'll be a player in the future that other teams tear their hair out trying to stop.
  16. I'm unfamiliar with the concept of a "remainder". If you're still bored, any chance you can explain that one..? Cheers
  17. I think Morton will be a real weapon in future, but will just take a longer time to develop, just like Goddard did. Id hate to lose him, but I concede it would be more damaging to lose one of the other core players you mentioned as priorities.
  18. That's probably why mfcnow won the competition which allowed his brother to get in contact with the club, and subsequently produce the club's new mascot, Christmas cards & Christmas video. Funny how things work out...
  19. I think the ONLY reason a kid would be leaving would be for the money. There is nothing else that Greater Western Sydney can offer them that they can't get here... except for more opportunities if it someone like Maric or Jetta that still cannot manage to crack the side in 2011 (if that's how it plays out). I believe Ablett when he says the challenge was one of the greatest motivators for him. I think the rest at GC are either players that given incentive by their old clubs to move on, or average players that couldn't get that good a payday any other way. I think we're almost guaranteed to lose someone, but likely not someone who is... "flag core". I'd watch closely anyone that doesn't have a great 2011. Guys like maybe Bate, Morton, Warnock. Not exactly household names. At the same time, the Giants could see that the quality of those players isn't outstanding (Morton excepted) and hold out until the next year, in hope.
