Paul Johnson, Shane Valenti, Matthew Bate. Finishing high in the Liston doesn't count for much if you have a glaring weakness in your game; Couch's being his severe lack of pace.

Key Position Forward - who do you think we can/should get
Brayshaw Self replied to melbfc2013's topic in Melbourne Demons
His kicking can be genuinely disgusting sometimes. He almost missed his foot trying to kick a goal from 15m out against us last year I think. On a positive note, he brings a lot to the table with his size and marking. Would love to get him but doubt we would be a chance to lure him if Tippett leaves. -

Lynch, Edwards and Gumbleton are all at teams with ample tall forwards. We don't exactly have blokes banging the door down to be CHF in the seniors. -
Absolutely. Like you said, with Bartram's career up in the air we could really use him. Right age and doesn't seem like a lazy player. Could do a lot worse

Sylvia not in best 18?

Semantics. I don't care if it doesn't work on you. You're a crap poster. You, Olisik and all the flogs with 30 posts saying stupid things contribute nothing to this site. Davis is not capable of playing on talls - this is my argument. Combine that with the fact that his kicking is below VAFA Div. 4 standard means he should be delisted. Anyone who can't defend a resting ruckman or rebound with serviceable kicking is a list-clogger.

I don't want anyone that loses the plot when someone mentions his mum

I wasn't keen on getting Goddard initially but I have warmed to the idea. I thought his poor body language and lack of application in recent times would be costly if we forked out big coin to lure him but I think under Neeld he would work harder and a fresh environment and added responsibility could encourage him to work hard and teach our kids. It would obviously be good to have a player from a successful organisation and we have a huge amount of cap space now so we need to splurge to even reach the 92% TPP cap. I think we should get him. God knows we need the class and experience.

The Club's Intentions - Trade/Draft
Brayshaw Self replied to Hells Gates's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would be happy if the club tried to help Geelong get Caddy if we could manage to get someone like Duncan/Motlop/West -
Considering he has yet to debut after 2 seasons, he probably is not good enough. He's the same height and almost the same weight as Bate who can't play tall at AFL level, however, Craig Bolton was 190cm and could do it. What you clearly struggle to comprehend is that just because you are the same height as someone doesn't automatically mean that you are capable of doing what they can do.

Bad attitude - had to go. The fact that he had the 14 tackle game after a few years of doing nothing similar and didn't reproduce anything near that afterwards shows how poor his mental application was. We all knew he had the ample talent even after his very first game but couldn't ever be consistent. Constantly got promoted, played one good game then went missing. Not the type of player we want around anymore.
-
Have you seen him play or do you just look up stats on the site? He does not play like a legitimate tall player. He is like a slightly taller Joel MacDonald. FMD.......

Great appetite for the contest but is a horrendous kick and seems to be too short to play on AFL-sized tall forwards. Would keep others ahead of him

I'm sure that if Neeld was taking his autocratic style too far that Neil Craig would have a word to him. I would think that sort of stuff is part of Craig's role

Craig Bird impressed me yesterday and looks like the type if player we could use. Wouldn't cost the earth.

Casey Scorpions v Werribee Tigers

This is ironic after his speech about McLean and the 'straight line'. He had minimal impact this season so it's no big loss. The bright side is that now we have a huge amount of cap space for the Free Agency and Trade period. The positives far outweigh the negatives here.
-
Most clubs have inside players that spread more than our outside players and also some outside players that can win more contested ball than most of our inside players. We need to draft/trade for/use free agency to bolster both aspects but just as importantly, we need to develop the players we have, which can be fast-tracked by gaining an experienced gun mid (like Judd at Carlton) and midfield coach. I think we have a few inside mids already that are capable of excelling in Trengove, Gys, Jones, Sylvia in stints so I wouldn't have a problem drafting a skinny kid or two, but I think we need to bring in an experienced and talented midfield coach and player.

Pretty sure Martin weighs 64kg. He would probably be in the top 5 skinniest on an AFL list if we pick him

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
Brayshaw Self replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Settle down, n00b. Before you start belittling people you should back up your statement with some proof. I do not remember anybody from the club categorically saying that we will or won't use our first pick on Viney and I have been paying attention. I was told by someone at the club this week that we may not actually be getting him. -
We would be stupid to let him go. We don't have an abundance of talls and he is playing his role really well at the moment. At 23 he is only going to get better.
