  1. I think you are on to something goodvibes... the writing was on the wall yesterday when, in the first couple of minutes Jones dropped a chest mark inside 50 and Davey and Green both missed gettable goals. As senior players they should have capitalised on the opportunity to get an early score on the board, with such a young side just looking for something to get them going it would have been very handy. Alas, the Hawks rebounded and did not waste their chance, then never looked back. Before the match I expressed how critical it was to get off to a decent start, I think when we come and do this without being blown away at quarter time we will find a more confident 4 quarter effort. Another way to get them going is acts of individual brilliance that spark the crowd and the side, unfortunately yesterday we were missing the best two practicioners of this art in Sylvia and Jurrah. Davey didn't bother.
  2. I just want to see Miller dropped. Please Bailey show some aggot and send a message that you just cannot be given a game for the MFC if you perform like that as a 9th-year player. Don't bring him back until he dominates several games at Casey either
  3. 6 Green 5 Grimes 4 Jamar 3 Trengove 2 Scully 1 McKenzie
  4. we were kicking to the ponsford end, and the Hawks were given a free, there was some sort of delay getting the ball back to the player which meant everyone had ample times to get into position and man up... yet, when he got the ball back he looked up to see a teammate 40 metres up the field, straight in the corridor, with nobody anywhere near him and of course he took that option and away they went I honestly could not believe what I was seeing, when I was in the under-11s I had enough nous to realise that if you left an opponent alone in the perfect spot like that he was definitely going to get it passed to him so I went and manned him up. How we can continue to witness these fundamental errors really blows mt mind, and is tarting to make me have grave doubts about the coach
  5. It already cost them Fevola, which has drastically reduced their chances of winning a flag
  6. do you concede that some of those 'kick its' are followed by a series of handballs that eventually come unstuck and someone is caught into a turnover, and kicking it WOULD have been the better option
  7. that unco hack will watch his brother holding up the premiership cup and think 'dammit'
  8. there is also the fact that his papier-mache body is likely to give out during the course of any given match and he will be in the stands for a month or two, coming back all hobbly and broken down I wonder how many consecutive rounds he will get through at Carlton good riddance I cannot believe my eyes with some of you 'I still love him' ha! what for? Underperforming for us as a pick 3 or for bailing on us (despite saying he never would) when the going got tough?
  9. again I see our inferiority complex shining through Round 11, 2006, Queen's Birthday match for 3rd-placed Collingwood vs 5th-placed Melbourne crowd : 78,773 That was the 2nd biggest crowd for the year, behind ANZAC days 91k.. the next 7 biggest all featured the Pies against the Blues, Tigers etc but they all had smaller crowds than our QB match THAT is what you can expect from the supporters of a Melbourne side that is in form, and playing a high-drawing side who is also in form If, hypothetically, we were expected to be a top 4 side this year and were given the season opener against the Pies, why wouldn't we get a similar number to that QB match? Despite our terrible few years our membership has continued to increase
  10. He has a year on him though, you wouldn't have said that about Grimes rd1 2009
  11. I think Franky's a little bit Cranky!
  12. Can't you see it happening though.. but as an above poster said it is (to an extent) excusable with this high school lineup We have a really bad habit of completely dropping our bundle for 20-30 minutes and conceding an avalanche of goals. This is how we lose most of our matches, and often this bad period is right at the start of the match. If we go 4 quarters without one of these patches I will be happy with the effort even if it means we still get soundly beaten (although I guess it goes hand in hand with a solid 4 quarter effort that we WON'T be smashed, I mean losing each quarter by a goal or 2 and ending up 6 down or something like that will be acceptable).
  13. I said 'just about' I never leave early, but I don't know how I am going to bear it if we are down 6 goals to zip at quarter time or something like that
  14. what makes you say that? The dogs have been performing well for years and they still don't get it instead the two WORST teams of the last decade, both expected to miss finals, are given it when we are good we will still be on sunday night vs Freo
  15. we'll know in the first 15 minutes. If they look clueless, sloppy and switched off and concede the first 3 or 4 in quick time we will know it's all over. I will be so disappointed I will just about go home if that happens. We are own worst enemy IMO, MUST go out there with their heads on straight and NOT be playing catch up from quarter time
  16. as an MCC member, last year I went to FOUR games in Round 1... I plan on doing similar this year, I think heaps of neutrals will be in attendance in the MCC for our game, everyone is just busting to lap it up when round 1 comes along and a few will want to check out the mighty SCULGOVE
  17. i'm with you Cale Morton to have a break out year and step up to A-grade status whoops
  18. agree totally, under normal circumstances we would be facing a shelacking in the midfield and that would be the end of the story - this time we have got a bit lucky and not only are they missing TWO ruckmen, our one, for once, is actually somewhat competent in the 'new' Jamar... combine this with the fact they are missing Sewell, Burgoyne, Bateman, Rioli (and possibly Lewis?) the opportunity looms to take them to the cleaners in the midfield, remember we have Grimes, Scully and Trengove in there now, all of whom I have confidence in. Also at our advantage is no Franklin, meaning if we keep Roughhead quiet, which I can back KnockKnock and Chip to do, their somewhat limited supply should not yield a big score... where we fall down is putting the goals on the board, the only way it will happen is if all of Petterd, Bate and Miller can manage 2-4 each and the midfield chips in it a bit, look for scully to be left to his devices and just keep running all day, finding a couple of opportunities to score from a fast break situation. critical to our chances is how we start the match. We have seemed to have this problem for about a decade, turning up cold and conceding a bunch of goals in the first 20 minutes then playing catch up all day. We saw this happen badly in the PS against Freo and the Bombers, and I think we were 3-down against the crows before putting 7 in a row on
  19. hhaahah number of times I lament the fact Jurrah isn't there : 35 number of times I praise Jesus that Franklin isn't either: 55
  20. This thread is so embarrassing... I am certainly no Mr.Positivity, and I am under no illusions about where we are at right now, but just a tiny bit of support wouldn't go astray. I know for a fact the players read these sites and geez you lot do very little to inspire them to run out there and get hurt for you. Combine that with the fact half of you can't even be bothered turning up to the matches in the first place and people wonder why our lads can sometimes look a little disinterested and lacking heart. It's a bit of a worry really. Fancy one of your own supporters saying we don't have a player in the top 150, despite the fact it is blatantly erroneous, why would you post it? PS. Sylvia was just about the best player in the comp for about a month there, his game against the Hawks would have to be one of the best individual efforts of the year. If we were a top 4 side his name would be all over the pointy end of the brownlow table
  21. what's more important, a little more column space or not having a strange fossil who is well past it developing a bunch of your kids? did anyone else notice Newman was trying to get something out of Sheedy, to do with a dislike of G.Lyon? It occurred to me that Lyon was on the panel for the job he unsuccessfully applied for. Bails all the way.
