  1. McKenzie might actually get his hands on the ball though and if not he'll tackle someone. Trenners in the centre square is like having a witches hat.
  2. No way. Just needs to get back in form. Had an injury interrupted 2012 and start to 2013 and showed what he could do in the back half of this year with jobs on some of the competitions truly elite. The miracle would be if our midfield is good enough defensively and the team is good enough that we dont need McKenzie and that would truly be a miracle if it happened before 2016. In terms of centre square players McKenzie is still in our top 6 with Jones, Viney, Vince, Tyson and Michie. Still has Toumpas, Trengove, Evans and Matt Jones covered.
  3. If we draft Lennon it will be as a mid. He has played some midfield towards the end of the season and he might start forward (or even back) but the hope will be midfield. In which case I understand the need for a tall big body and skilled mid. It's just a gutsy call to use pick 9 on a guy who might be a midfielder when you have those other options available. Then again Dyson Heppell was a defender for most of his junior career. North have used pick 8 on McDonald who will start as a defender. I wouldn't back our old coaches to make forwards into mids. They've failed to make Tapscott and Blease into those type of players. But Roos might be up to it.
  4. Even if he fixes his kicking he's still soft and mentally slow. The legs are fast but the footy brain isn't up to AFL standard I dont think. If he was skilled and hard you'd put up with bad decision making but right now he can't kick, doesn't go hard enough and doesn't make good decisions. That's the 3/4 of a bad player. He does have the athleticism to make up the other 1/4 though.
  5. So would I but at the moment Magner is on our list and Cross isn't.
  6. Different players I know but pacy, good height, good marking or kicking half forwards looking to get into the midfield - we have Howe and Watts already. In some ways I'd rather see what they can do in the midfield for a year before we get a guy who ends up competing for games at half forward with them. I'll trust our recruiters if they go for Lennon but I would've preferred him to do more in the midfield against the best in his age before he got drafted and tries to do it at AFL. That said we all know how good Rockliff was as a forward in juniors and now as a midfielder.
  7. Jones, Vince, Viney, Trengove, Tyson, Michie, McKenzie, Toumpas, Watts, Matt Jones, Evans They are my genuine midfielders. Might not be stars and very young and inexperienced but they have the pedigree and/or preseasons and/or form to play midfield at AFL level. We need at least 10 of those playing every week and playing well to win games. Then we've got a few more with big questions marks over them. Kent, Byrnes, Blease, Nicholson, Barry, Bail, Taggert, Magner plus all our draft picks. If we are lucky pick 9 is ready to go and Kent can show he can be effective doing spurts in the midfield as well. If we are super lucky we get surprised by Blease, Barry or Taggert. Even still we'd be relying on those guys for depth. The bulldogs last year showed they got games out of Hrovat, Jack McRae and Lachie Hunter as first year draftees that pushed Cross out. This year we'd be bringing Cross in for depth and hoping he actually plays fewer games than more. Last year we brought Rodan in for depth but as early as the NAB Cup it was obvious the midfielders around him weren't even better than him. I'd be all for Cross but I'd want him to take the spot of Magner or Nicholson on this list. No point having those 2 and Cross. That's 3 spots for guys we hope never play. When you saw the value of PSD last year when we missed out on Hannath who looks a handy prospect then that's the counter argument for bringing Cross in. Let's see where we are by the end of the trade period.
  8. Get a train on squad of delisted and undrafted players. Obviously the undrafted players are hard to pick but we've already heard some names from the delisted pile. I'm talking guys like Tom Ledger (St Kilda), Mav Weller (GC), Callum Bartlett (Bris), Jeremy Laidler (Carl), Matt Thomas (Port). Right now I'm thinking if we only have 3 main draft picks we are best to use the PSD on the best of the kids leftover. But that depends if we make list movements to move on guys like Magner, Nicholson and Jetta.
  9. Hawks supporters: - We dont need Franklin. Franklin leaves going to Sydney and Hawks get a first round pick - They Free agency compensation is unfair So which one is it? I like the compensation. The worse you are the more you'll miss your experienced players so the more you get for them. The better you are the less you get for them. Sounds like a simple way to protect bottom clubs. Take away compensation and it will turn into a huge market of players. Right now it's a small market with some good but mainly a few cheap players moving. That's how we want it.
  10. He'll probably play more games than Maric, Blease, Strauss, Tapscott and Gysberts! And if we don't start winning games in the next 24 months then what does it matter no one will play 100 games for us again! Vince for 23 isn't great. Vince for Sylvia is pretty good
  11. I like Jetta more than Nicholson and Magner but he's the worst performed of the 3 at VFL level
  12. Out: Sellar, Gillies, Tynan, Davis, Couch ®, Davey, Rodan, McDonald, Sylvia In: Hogan, Michie, Tyson, Vince List spots: 1 rookie spot and 4 main list spots OR flexibility up to 3 rookie spots and 2 main list spot if we wish to expand our rookies from 4 to 5 or 6. Still on the chopping block: Magner, Jetta, Nicholson Still tradeable if someones interested: Strauss, Blease, Tapscott, Bail Current picks: 9, 40, 57, PSD I see us now trying to flirt around the edges and look at upgrading picks if possible. I'd also like to see us really survey the delisted pool looking for that gem (Guerra at Hawthorn type). I'm still less than convinced of the value of taking Magner, Jetta and Nicholson in to next year when you see guys we got with late picks and rookie picks last year (Terlich, Clisby).
  13. I look at the way our players responded to Craig and I think they'll do the same to Stone. They dont need someone who's going to blow his own trumpet and prattle around like Neeld. What they will respect is that Stone has quality experience and will deliver for us I'm sure.
  14. Out of interest run me through Dawes' injury history at Collingwood and how it relates to his soft tissue injuries at Melbourne, which I think were caused by an increase in fitness training due to him reverting from ruck/deep forward back to his more suited role as a lead up high motor forward. Or how Clark's freak lisfranc injury is related to some other collision injuries he had at Brisbane. Same with Michie, his foot injuries were behind him. Plenty of AFL players have foot injuries, just this year alone with he Jamar, Evans and Trengove. We've had Garland before. They do recover if managed well. Tyson's PCL was a one of injury as well. Of course every knee injury adds up but he's not Joel Selwood. At the end of the day Tyson and Michie probably came cheaper because they didn't get game time due to injury but that shouldn't be a representation of their talent and I wouldn't necessarily label them injury prone.
  15. 9, 40, 56 ish. Potentially we will look to do deals in this last week moving those later 2 picks forward or getting another one in the top 50ish by trading out players who haven't been getting a kick but might hold a little interest from other clubs (ie, Blease, Strauss, Tapscott).
  16. I'm not that interested in Cross any more to be honest. Any game time we give him will probably be a waste. Sure Vince replaces Sylvia but we've then added Tyson and Michie who need opportunity. Cross can come as a development coach and we can sort him a contract with Casey.
  17. Last time I checked we didn't throw in Josh Kennedy and GWS gave us pick 9 back, which makes it way different to the Judd deal but good luck to those who tried.
  18. Haha yep. But journo's have been consistently right when it comes to Melbourne getting screwed of late. Time for that to change
  19. It's going to be a great weekend at Bernie's! Come on down Mr Vince!
  20. According to Jon Ralph on twitter we are unlikely to get the pick after our second pick and instead get the pick after our 3rd. Sounds like a rort to me if the saints get a pick after their second for Dal Santo
  21. Pretty much. Not much talent from Marcellin is there. Not like Shuey is a good player is he? But I'm not sure Bontempelli is the right guy for us. He keeps growing! Up to over 194cm and that would be a big midfielder! And we've already got Watts as a big outside mid. Much more interested in clearance big body mids around 190cm.
  22. Wanted a young player with experience, midfielder and to get back into drafts top 10 and got that. Have a few names on the list for pick 2 draft wise and expect 1 or 2 to be there at 9 Bernie Vince will be ours if the Sylvia compo pick can satisfy Adelaide (without explicitly saying that) Thinks Dom Tyson is a good player and is tall (being a bit facetious but you get the point).
  23. Tambling, Meyer, Pattinson, Polo. First 2 ended up at Adelaide and Port. Tambling had something if brought along the right way, same with Meyer. Pattinson was big lumbering type who was a bust for sure. Polo had the talent to make it, starred on debut. Pretty ugly draft outside the top 5. If they got the Tambling (Franklin or Jordan Lewis) pick right no one would care about the other 3 mugs.
  24. Josh Mahoney pretty much confirmed if we get the pick that satisfies Adelaide then we get Vince.
  25. Seems to be reported everywhere.else. Presume it's a trade tracker mistake. Pick 53 will be important for us if we have 3 picks in the draft which I'd say we need at least.
