  1. He also said he wouldn't have taken the Tigers job if he knew their financial position. Yet after his contract finished they were in a worse place financially. No doubt their recruiting was rubbish. They reportedly recruited Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls without seeing him play and took a long time to realise he was dyslexic. But there development was just as bad. All 5 they picked showed talent at one stage but never kicked on.
  2. You really think the top picks are recruited based on the media? No way. The media, fans and recruiters all watch games and guys get reputations that help keep them up the top but no way do players get recruited based on the media.
  3. Terry Wallace talking some rubbish about Tyson being there 7th best midfielder and therefore him not getting game time going forward. Yet why are they getting pick 2? Not to mention modern teams need 12 midfield types. By the way I'd say Shiel, Whitfield, Treloar and Ward are the only 4 better. And Whitfield and Treloar are more outside types. Greene, Scully, Devon Smith, Coniglio, O'Rourke can't say any of those are any better than Tyson right now. Of course Adams is leaving as well.
  4. Watch out Max Gawn you've got competition now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZUFFM9bOBU TysON very nice
  5. Yeah it's in and out. Besides the usual problems that Barrett's head has reached massive proportions after North getting Dal Santo
  6. No they'll get the second round compo. It's just the best North had to offer was pick 26 and this way they get a better pick than that and now North will surely trade them Delaney who has some value for nothing. Massive win win for both and the rest of the clubs get screwed because an extra draft pick gets added just because St Kilda, North and Dal Santo decided to work on his contract.
  7. I agree. GWS have got the good deal initially. We've got the potential in the deal depending on pick 9 and Tyson. Ok maybe the deal isn't in our favour but the chance is there for a genuine midfield that at least puts us in games next year. We had a percentage of 54% this year. If we get 10% improvement from coaching and development of the likes of Watts, McDonald, Trengove, Toumpas, Kent, Grimes and 10% improvement from Clark and Dawes being fit a young lad name Hogan and 10% more improvement by getting Michie, Tyson and Vince and then actually having a midfield then all of a sudden that has us at 84%. Brisbane won 10 games at 89%, Bulldogs 8 games at 85% and St Kilda won 5 games at 82%. You do know Tyson bounces the ball with his opposite hand Ben! The greatest Neeld-ism of the lot "it is what it is" after we copped yet another hiding. Well now Paul Roos has the list and the line must be it isn't that anymore. 3 year deal on 450 a year for a 30 year old. Not going to happen
  8. GWS - Boyd. 2-4 (gws, St Kilda, Bulldogs): Kelly, Aish, Scharenberg in some order. Picks 5, 6, 7 - Gold Coast, West Coast, Brisbane Pick 8 - Luke McDonald So the important thing is whoever we had high up in the pick 2 range falls through the Gold Coast, West Coast, Brisbane slot. Will be interesting.
  9. Matt Jones - learn how to kick so he can play half back and/or add forward and a better balance between inside and outside game Michael Evans - not a lot. Plenty of room for mids. Just has to keep improving and show his ability as a forward as well. In competition with Kent, Watts, Trengove, Toumpas, Michie. The spots will be there for plenty of them.
  10. Trying to get a job in the West Coast recruiting department are you? Would love to here your thoughts on Jack Darling pre draft!
  11. Roos had tremendous success with guys from this background. Sandy Dragons - Ted Richards (Xavier), Josh Kennedy (Xavier) Oakleigh - Nick Smith (Scotch), Dan Hannebery (Xavs), Alex Johnson (Xavs) Now we get Roos and his first 2 trades are Viv Michie (Wesley, Oakleigh) and Dom Tyson (Trinity, Oakleigh). Don't be surprised if Jack Billings (Scotch/Oakleigh), Nathan Freeman (Haileybury/Sandringham) or Christian Salem (Brighton/Sandringham) of course Kelly would've been another to fit the criteria come our way in the draft. Look out for Will McGuiness (Scotch/Oakleigh) for a late pick Anyway it might be all just coincidence but I think the Sydney recruiters have noticed in some ways that some of the private school kids don't fulfil their potential in under 18's as they have serious school commitments and school footy both of which take away from their under 18 focus. Compared to WA where the kids are finished school and often train for footy like professionals or take 1 or 2 uni subjects or pretty chilled part time jobs. I also don't want to turn this into a private school kids are smarter and more dedicated thread because that's complete rubbish. But I certainly believe that Roos wants natural footballers who can play with high levels of discipline - hence Richards, Smith and Johnson being key parts of the swans backline. An increased focus on studies may help train that kind of discipline and ability to process on the footy field. Who knows, for every example I've listed theirs a Stefan Martin throwing a spanner in the works.
  12. Listed as 186cm but I'd say he gets every bit of that (maybe it's the hair) and left footer which is a much needed positive. The heights important because Freo are revolutionizing midfield play with Fyfe, Mundy and Barlow. We can't be sending out Nath Jones and Viney alone. Michie has a little size. Trengove is decent in the air but we need some midfielders closer to the 190cm mark.
  13. Forget about his form this year I'd say. Can't expect a young midfielder in a team not getting a kick to impact games after a significant time out. His form in his first year was patchy. Games of 10, 6 and 4 touches, likely the sub on some of those occasions. But in the other games he went 15, 21, 17, 18, 17, 24, 26. Also 4 goals in 10 games in 3 games he made minimal impact shows he can get on the end of it. Not bad tackle numbers either. My biggest concern is the knee injury. Besides that I would've loved to keep pick 20 but I understand why. We are getting a pick 3 for 2 years ago for pick 2 and moving from pick 20 to pick 9. It all depends on Tyson's ability to live up to that pick 3 and what we can do with that pick 9. I'm thinking we head to the draft with picks 9, third round pick - 40ish and GWS' 4th round pick. Sylvia compo on the trade block for Vince or any other at this stage.
  14. Maybe the thing I'm most excited for is the the R in Trengrove, the A in Maloney, the O's in Pedorson, the E in Clarke, the A in Taggart, the U and R and often missing E and S in Burns and quite possibly my favourite the E on the end of Dunne now have a new friend. Welcome to the T in Mitchie.
  15. The best bit Don't know what level of maths Mark Robinson made it to but that sounds like a good deal to me.
  16. If you dont think Cross is AFL standard anymore then that's the reason not to go for him
  17. He could be the big body midfielder we are looking for!
  18. Nope. Remember we didn't even know the final draft order until the commission meeting re priority picks and also GWS have been busy with Frankln, Mumford, Shaw/Adams. Like everyone they would've been considering free agents and free agent compensation as well. Once that is all cleared up tomorrow I expect the trade period to move pretty quickly. I'd say a few deals get leaked over the weekend and a steady flow of trades until the madness of Friday.
  19. I'll have a guess: Tapscott, Blease, Strauss, Bail and Jamar. The first 3 are our version of Brisbane's malcontents, but instead of packing up and taking their potential they've all stayed with us and given us nothing. In fact Brisbane could be one club interested in these guys as they are around the age that they are losing players from and Brisbane wouldn't want to bring in 5 second or third round picks all in the one draft. We could trade one of these guys to Brisbane for nothing just to get them off our list and use an extra draft pick if we look short of one and Brisbane dont need it. Strauss would be a like for like replacement of Yeo and Docherty. Blease could take the list spot of a Polec or Karnezis. Wouldn't be surprised if they had some interested.
  20. Maybe I'm pedantic but really what Vince (like Dawes) will be coming for is financial security and opportunity to play in his preferred position with a coach that believes in him. Money makes it sound so distasteful. By putting him through the process regardless of outcome Adelaide have signaled their intentions of a limited .role in the future behind younger midfielders and with him becoming a free agent next year they at a whim of the market in terms of compensation if he then becomes unhappy. We are giving him 3+1 if he's up to it years and at least for next year prime time spot in the midfield. If he doesn't think Adelaide will win the flag in the next 24 months then it's a smart move. One thing that could come back to hurt us but could also really help us is Vince's personality and media profile. Not to mention we get Vince now, we've already got Clisby, move Mitch Clark into the ruck and come on down Tex Walker to move to Melbourne with his old house mate and a good mate in Clisby!
  21. So you'd be happy with the trade of Buntine and Bugg and pick 9 for pick 2 then. Because you get your man Buntine. Whatever peoples thoughts on Bugg are when you still haven't delisted Magner, Nicholson or Jetta he's worth taking!
  22. Masterful tactics Pennant! You just have to bluff them that you are actually serious in demanding Shiel and pick 9. I must say that would be hard to pull off asking for that much!
  23. I think the recruiters will have their draft board obviously. And we know Boyd will go at 1 and Luke McDonald at 7 or whatever. So they'll have 7 names available between pick 2 and pick 9. Somewhere on that list will be Kelly and Aish I'm sure. But I agree it will also have 5 other names and who knows what order. The big question is how much of a difference do they rate the guy at the top of that list compared to the guy at the bottom.
  24. It's the overall benefit to the state of the list which is where I see the potential in this trade. We take a guy with pick 2 and we put a whole bunch of hope in him being a star and carrying a heavy load in the midfield whilst at the same time Nicholson and Magner continue to be the guys at Casey getting a kick and putting pressure on the 22, which isn't even real pressure because the coaches don't want to pick them anyway. Make this trade and all of a sudden the guys at Casey not getting a game are Buntine and Bugg and the club wants to play them and so Clisby and Evans get dropped and then they play great at Casey to get back in. Builds a development model. Obviously it's risky and they safer option is hope pick 2 becomes a star and along with Viney and Jones we got 3 A grade mids and then the rest of the team gets dragged along behind them. Doing the trade would mean you develop a more competent team all over the field and then you hope you develop a star out of someone who wasn't predicted. Remember Sydney's 3 midfield stars are Jack (rookie), Kennedy (trade for pick 40 odd), Hannebery (3rd? round pick). I'm sure part of the reason they look so good and became stars was because their development was aided by playing in a team that more often than not had 22 capable players fulfilling their roles.
