  1. It's a pretty long list. But as a start, I see no reason why individual houses and buildings can't be fully self-sufficient rather than linked to a power/resource grid, particularly new buildings/dwellings. Clearly I don't think it's feasible to just go live by yourself in a cabin in the woods like Ted Koscinski and expect be able to meld in with modern society however I think there has to be a middle ground. I also think that while individual based, grass roots activities can be taken and are necessary without a broader plan and more creative thinking from our governments about how we want society to look in 30, 50 or 100 years rather than just what will play with the voters and get me re-elected ultimately the impact will be minimal.
  2. We also can't continue our lifestyles on the current western level, that is unsustainable too.
  3. He doesn't enrage me, in fact it saddens me that the population of our country is so stupid and lacking in education that his "opinion pieces" based on beliefs and prejudice rather than facts are taken as "journalism".
  4. You can destroy the environment without destroying or changing the climate of the planet, but I wouldn't expect someone with such a lack of capacity for critical thinking as you to be able to discern between the two.
  5. Sorry I thought you meant back in the Stone Age due to climate change policies. Religious nuts with nukes have had the world on the brink for 70 years. Just look at the US. BTW it's one thing to have nukes, it's another altogether to have the capacity to do anything with them. The threat from the Taliban, Pakistan, Iran etc is there but on the scale of things it's way down the pecking order compared to threat from US, China and our own lifestyles. I'm about as scared of the Taliban as I was scared of Iraq i.e. not at all. Just another cartoon bogeyman for the US to roll out when they want to stage another invasion to keep their own population docile and distracted from the fact they are being robbed and raped by their own government every single day and to fatten the pockets of the corporaions who run the government.
  6. Pretty sure they are doing this and this has been the AFL's go all along - thye knew this would be a 2-3 decade operation and are targeting the kids who will be their future customers rather than the adults who are already rusted on soccer/rugby followers.
  7. BTW I think your alarmist "back in the Stone Age" talk is just as ridiculous as the "we'll all be under water by 2050 when the ice caps melt" and does your argument no favours.
  8. I'm not really qualified to state with certainty whether human activity is changing the climate of the planet. I am also very cynical that the environmentalist movement has been co-opted by governments and used as another form of taxation and control. However at its core I agree with the premise that human activity is destroying the environment and make the planet less habitable not only for ourselves but for the vast array of other species we cohabit with. There definitely needs to be new thinking in regards to how we go about using non-renewable resources, how we have devastated the forests and marine eco-systems of the planet, how we have seen constant build-up of industrial wastelands pumping toxic substances into the atmosphere to feed the never-ending need for capitalist "growth" instead of focusing on "sustainability". Whichever way you cut it our current lifestyle is unsustainable. It's bad enough when Europe and North America lead the lifestyles we currently do but how will we cope when over a billion Indians and over a billion Chinese want to join us? We need more creative thinking and more creative planning of our society moving forward rather than just the easy yet ultimately extremely costly quest for never-ending growth.
  9. If you expect to have any kind of credibility with people other than those who ring up talk back radio you really shouldn't be linking to/quoting anything the Dolt has to say.
  10. Haha, but no mention of the (far more dangerous) religious cult of catholicism?
  11. How much money did Rumsfeld anounce was "unaccounted" for on Sept 10, 2001? Was it 2 or 3 trillion dollars? Yeah they wouldn't have any motive whatsoever.
  12. I don't really imbibe much any more but my poison of choice has long been cannabis sativa. I'm also partial to some LSD though it's not something you can really take all that often, I wouldn't do it more than once a year and haven't touched it for close to 5 years. Cocaine can go alright on occasions as well but I've never really been a fan of MDMA. If I'm drinking it's generally Johnnie Walker with a dash of coke or Mojito's/Singapore Slings during the summer. I don't mind the Moscow Mule either. Never been much of a wine drinker, the sweet ones are too sweet and the dry ones are too dry. Beer is great in hot weather but I can only have two or three before I start to feel bloated. Recently I've been drinking the Fat Yak's but I also don't mind James Squire's Hundred and Fifty Lashes. The Hoegarden (sp?) they have on tap at the Belgium Beer Garden in St.Kilda Rd goes down pretty well on a hot day as well.
  13. Sandilands, Judd, Brown - injury prone, getting too old Priddis - agree very good player, unlucky not to be on the list Lewis - very good player, probably unluck not to be on the list but probably a rung below Nic Nat - severely over rated on his output to date
  14. How is it flawed? They use more than 100 different stats, not just cumulative kicks, marks, handballs but also efficiency stats. Look at the list in the OP and tell me how many you could truly say are "wrong"? It is an indicator as I said but it's a pretty true indicator and the best indicator we have so far to measure players. If you can come up with some better analysis be my guest but at this stage forgive me if I prefer the informed analysis of CD over the "yeah, but nah" speculation of the supporters in the outer. Again I reiterate, they are not saying these players are "elite" in the manner the every day supporter thinks of it (Ablett, Carey, Voss etc) - they are merely saying based on their measurements and analysis of the 2013 season these players are in the top 10 for their position which they refer to as "elite". They're not saying Andrew Walker and Kade Simpson are amongst the top 10 players of all time.
  15. It's hilarious how people get so offended by lists like these. Yes it is a list based purely on CD's own statistics and metrics which they clearly spell out and don't pretend to be anything else. Their definition of elite is the top players for those stats and metrics in their positions. I should add that these rankings are made based off around 130-150 different stats most of which the lay person has no access to. Jones was great in 2012 but really didn't meet the same level in 2013. Frawley has the potential to be a top defender but again hasn't really shown it for a couple of years. These are based purely on 2013 stats and anyone who disagrees with guys like Hibberd or Gunston didn't watch much footy last year. I'll take CD's objective analysis over subjective whims from supporters. It should be take as a guide it is not definitive.
  16. Pretty sure it does, someone else should be able to confirm though.
  17. Off topic completely now, but what's the quality of the overseas streaming service? From what I can gather it is terrible only broadcast in 586p or whatever it is and maxes out at ~700kbps - compare this to the NFL Gamepass which is broadcast in HD (1080p?) and maxes out at 4500kbps.
  18. Your wife will realise that it is your fatherly duty to do so, I signed up my son within the first few days, she just rolled her eyes but understood.
  19. I agree with all the feedback about the DemonShop but personally I don't have a massive problem with it. I think the location definitely costs the club sales but weighed against the cost of moving I don't think it's feasible to open a new store elsewhere. I've never had a problem with it (I usually go on match day anyway) and when I have been on a weekday I just park on Jolimont Tce and go for a short walk. The ideas about a "tourism" type stall at Fed Square or Tulla are great ideas but again unsure how feasible they might be? One issue I do have is to do with the stock. I don't get why they don't stock things like DVDs of past games especially finals and big games etc. I realise these are done via Name A Game but surely the Demon Shop could stock some as well.
  20. Even if he's only our 30th best player on the list you still need depth especially running through the middle.
  21. sue, after reading this thread (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2058072) at Whirlpool it seems the AFL Live app is an absolute shambles. I expected it to be comparable to my NFL Gamepass app but it looks a world apart. It seems you can't stream to Apple TV via Airplay although some peoe state they were able to Video of live matches often doesn't work at all Picture quality is poor and nowhere near the HD quality of other similar apps - seems it's not even SD quality and lesser quality than analogue - this is compounded for those who actually were able to stream to their TV Picture was cropped to 4:3 for live channel 7 matches - some later posts in July indicate this problem was fixed however some say it was still an issue Based on this I definitely won't be bothering with it and am reconsidering going over to Telstra (currently with Optus until end of Feb).
  22. I missed that Windy Hill game as my dad didn't go (think he was expecting to get done) so went to Hawthorn v Richmond at the G instead with my cousin. Spent the last quarter watching the scoreboard updates for our game and have watched the replay a hundred times (mainly in my youth) - "Bennett used Van Der Haar like a stepladder!"
  23. Haha, I was 10 at the time and went with my dad and my uncle (who is a Pies supporter) and his mate (a Demons supporter). On the way out of the ground I wouldn't stop singing "It's a Grand Old Flag" all the way back to Hoddle Street - I think my dad was pretty nervous but none of the Maggies supporters said anything to us.
  24. Pretty sure you can use the AppleTV to mirror your iphone/ipad rather than just play through AirPlay (though I havent tried it) so that it replicates your phones screen on the TV exactly as it looks on your phone instead of just streaming the video content. Someone more tech savvy than me may be able to help out with this.
