Yep - couldn't lock the ball in our forward line and couldn't lock the ball in to the tackle. I lost count of how many times we had them wrapped up in a pack then a couple of seconds later the ball was flying around out the back and side for them to clear it away

Oh and watts hasn't done anything for a month and Garland should never have been brought back. At least Dunn has a crack.
-
They are much better drilled and run much harder than us our players are too lazy today, second to the footy and fumbling.

A salute to an Australian Icon - Ronald Dale Barassi

I've been reading the book Time and Space which goes through the evolution of the game/tactics etc Fair to say he didn't "invent" the Ruck Rover position but he did perfect. Interesting to note in the early days there were usually two rucks with one acting as a "blocker" for his partner. Also interestingly from the late 20's for about 15 years they had a "last touch" rule with a free kick given against the team who last touched the footy if it went out if bounds (similar to what the afl want to bring in now). -

Being born in 1982 I never got to see him play but I always imagined Michael Voss to be the closest approximation to RDB. Is there any other modern player you might compare him to? -

Correct and he would've stayed to coach Melbourne with Smiths blessing but he didn't want to seem as though he was forcing the Red Fox out before his time. -

Any idea what the other clubs numbers are? -
There was a pic of him in hospital due to his ribs so definitely more than "soreness"

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
Dr. Gonzo replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
We definitely nailed this pick - interesting to see the difference between our drafting and Collingwoods since Taylor came over no wonder Eddie was filthy when we poached him. -

6x premiership player, premiership captain, father was also a Melbourne player who died in service, MFC Coterie looking after his family, pretty much the foster son of Norm Smith, first ever father/son player Yeah he left at the behest of Norm Smith but Jesus H. Christ this guy is as close to being the MFC as any one person could be. Would've been good if we had a "succession plan" back then but you can't question his impact, influence and love of the club. I hope the club buys his memorabilia that he's looking to offload some of that stuff belongs at the sports museum not in some collectors home. -
Definitely remember him wearing it during that pre-season game up in Queensland, not sure if he did it any other times. Don't have any pics though sorry but can clearly remember it as well as it being ripped off his head haha

Do MCC get access to Docklands? EFC supporters may need to buy a membership considering their home games at Docklands. -
Can't find your podcast on Podcast Republic, are you guys on there?

So he's kind of like a Schroedinger's Hogan?

Relax, we've got this.

We've got a game in 4 days, probably not the ideal preparation to take 2x4 hrs flights mid week.

On this weeks MFC Demons podcast the guys went through some of the comparative stats between Gawn and Goldy and Gawn was ahead in all (I think it was hitouts, possessions and marks?) Marks he was ahead something like 4.7 to 2.6 per game. If he's also ahead in hitouts to advantage and slightly behind in goals per game (1.3 to 1) I think it's fair to say he should be leading the AA ruck contest at this stage. Goldstein is leading in some other key stats but overall they're pretty even. http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=A&tid1=12&playerStatus2=A&tid2=13&type=A&pid1=3346&pid2=1755&fid1=S&fid2=S

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS
Dr. Gonzo replied to Demanding Success's topic in Melbourne Demons
What it shows me is that recruiting in Australian Football is still coming to terms with true professionalism. The nature of the talent pathways for junior footy players makes it difficult to determine which players will thrive at senior level and which ones are just schoolboy champions. I think the club and the comp as a whole are getting better at this though. I agree, we would never have taken Oliver a couple of years back, so great to see the club back themselves in with a high draft pick and see it pay off immediately. Kudos to the drafting/recruitment team and FD. It's not just attitude, it is a set of attributes that are now looked at instead of just raw talent. Attitude is a key one but there are several others recruiters would look at - such as the ability to win contested footy mentioned above. -
Langdon, Hardie and Crackers? Don't waste your time fretting over what those nimrods might say.
-
Agreed - I don't think it's hyperbole to say he could be the best forward we've had in the clubs history. Neitz and Schwarz were both good not great (Schwarz due to injury), Farmer and Jakovich were mercurial but inconsistent, we've never really had a true "spearhead" or champion CHF since the days of Fanning and Smith. If he left it would be a disaster.
-
Especially once we start getting exposure in FTA prime time games, this guy will drag in the supporters.
-
If we can get a guy like Prestia you get him, period. He would walk into our starting 18 easily. As much as we love our players he would easily replace guys like Michie, Stretch, Kent, VDB, Kennedy, Bugg, Harmes etc It's a no brainer and I hope we already made a commitment to him last year to make an offer once his contract with GC was up. I reckon the only thing stopping us getting him is our performance- if we can continue to look like a team on the rise it should just be a matter of satisfying a trade with the Suns. He probably would've come last time if we weren't such a rabble.

Afl members are included in club membership tallies -
Exactly, even when down he still impacts the game and provides a target for us upfield. The only "poor" game he's had was against the Bombers, every other game he's played his role while threatening to explode at any moment. The less focus on him the better as far as team balance goes but even when not spearheading the side he remains the linchpin of the team. Will be a dominant CHF for the next decade, hopefully the Weed comes on as a full forward with Watts as the roaming 3rd tall and Garlett/Kent/Petracca crumbing to really cause headaches for opposition defences for years to come.

How much football have Demonland members played?
Dr. Gonzo replied to Nasher's topic in Melbourne Demons
I played for 8 or 9 seasons as a junior in the DVFL. I planned on taking a year off after high school and coming back to play u19's/senior footy but got stuck into the weekend partying and never went back much to my regret. Now I'm too old with kids and don't think I could play even if I wanted to, though I keep telling my brother I'm gonna put in a pre-season just to come back and play one game alongside him in the ammo's.
