Which is why it's hard to lay the blame solely at Goodwin's feet. There are things he can do better of course but when the players stink it up like they did last Thursday you could have Norm Smith in the box and it wouldnt matter

On the article, I didn't think it was much of a deep dive. Pretty lightweight overall, only really reiterated what most people already know about our issues and didn't offer any thoughtful solutions.

So who is the midfield coach? Mathews? Or is Plapp pulling double duty?

Exactly - the way we were dissected in the Prelim as well as against Richmond, Hawthorn and Collingwood earlier in the year should've been enough to warrant a review. I said at the time (at the beginning of the Goodwin thread) that he needed help with a better team if assistants around him. 30 months on and we still have Plapp, Chaplin, Rooke and Egan not to mention Mahoney in key roles despite little evidence to indicate they are actually good at their roles! And that's without even mentioning the lack of a forward coach.

That's good news but a year too late! The external review should've happened last year (or at the end of 2018 some would say!)

It's all well and good to say put Brayshaw in the centre and play Harmes as a tagger but they were in those positions when Petracca was playing limited midfield minutes and Viney was injured. Viney, Petracca and Oliver are our starting mids, you need to shift them out of the centre if you want to give Brayshaw and Harmes more midfield minutes and Brayshaw and Harmes at not as good as any if those three. Perhaps Viney could go forward but then we lose the drive he gives us like he did in the final quarter vs Lions. Perhaps Oliver could go forward but he has never been a proven goalkicker. If Brayshaw/Harmes can't play wing or either half-back/forward then they are nothing but depth and really surplus to requirements.

If you went into the game expecting that performance I can't help you.

Collingwood had Pendlebury, Sidebottom, De Goey and Howe out against the Eagles. We had our best team in last night. It was unacceptable and only sustained performance over the course of a season and then multiple seasons will win back the trust of supporters.

The next 2 weeks prove nothing. They need to win both games comfortably and that won't be enough to win back the trust of supporters. That can only be gained by multiple YEARS of consistent performances. Until then it's same old Melbourne
