  1. Meh, just explain tot hem that they can take a 'proper' pay cut now out of respect for the thousands of people in the AFL 'family' who have just become income-free, or the AFL can just sort the problem by reaffirming the '25% of all AFL income' line the players were so keen to have, and strangling the salary cap and permitting renegotiation of contracts. They are entirely within their rights to, for the same reasons that QANTAS had the right to immediately stand down 80% of their employees. Oh, and a side note - not many people are aware but a similar clause exists in tenancy policy. So any tenants out there (if they are aware of their rights) who has been stood down due to coronavirus does in fact have the right to break their lease without penalty. But they don't know because thye don't have the legal team of QANTAS helping them!
  2. All too true. Might as well have the club go out to our older members with pre-filled Demon Will Kits.
  3. Hell, even the tag of 'future captain' has been too much of a burden for several over the years.
  4. I just caught myself thinking of our odd little community as being like the people you've been sitting in the same seats near for years. Don't even have to like each other, might often be annoyed by our manners or vehemently disagree on something, but still, there's a certain sense of shared experience and humanity. Everyone look after yourselves and each other. The virus is an awful thing but you can shunt the odds a bit in your favour, and a bit in society's favour, by doing all the little things. 1%ers, n'all that jazz. Take care everyone, gotta be fresh for when the season restarts, and plenty more seasons to come.
  5. Basically an even game except for about ten minutes. (prepares to be flamed)
  6. On the bright side, I am now more confident than I have ever been that our pre-season and list are in their best condition in almost 60 years.
  7. Pretty sure that was the trigger clause. "Oh crap, Demons have won a final. Activate the President of Madagascar protocol!" But we'll always have Lily's vibrating explosion-in-a-jar goal celebration.
  8. Some people are really messed up. I don't know for sure which disturbs me more; The crazies who seem to be fantasising that things aren't so bad and that the million or so people in immediate risk of bankruptcy or homelessness are just entitled leftie kids having a sook. or The crazies who respond to any criticism of the lack of the response as if it can only be some kind of fake news strategy secretly promoting... um... past labor party leaders? I'll try to reassure myself that it is just a few people on a forum. As for watching at a crowded pub... that's just dumb right now. Dumb and irresponsible. Which is why we need much more action to help the people and businesses that NEED to close.
  9. Never in doubt.
  10. We turned it right on early in the second, but same old story of missed shots. It's just about the only way the Demon's women's team loses, and it is maddening. I still think we'll win today, I just really believe in this team. (Weird, huh?)
  11. I'm a big fan of 'good' Brayshaw, who has that special talent for acting now and thinking ahead at the same time, which can make him a very smart and creative player. He also has 'pretty good at everything' in his favour which can translate to having no weakness. But 'poor' Brayshaw is just a midfield meat-and-potatoes player and starts to look merely 'nothing special, yeah, ok' at everything, which starts to look like having no strengths. I'm optimistic. I'm also optimistic about Viney, Tomlinson and Langdon so I guess I'm saying I think we're about to show off the greatest ever midfield mix.
  12. We need 80,000 laptops networked at the 'G with live audio (let's not risk video) links playing so people can connect and yell from their own home. There would be competition for spots in no time.
  13. I've met him at least once, at a pre-season game in Canberra. Possibly Aaron Davey's first or second outing? As I recall, he has been variously involved with the club over the years, particularly as a volunteer stats gatherer/validator. Surely there's a way.
  14. 16 minutes is a terrible idea - everyone knows the criteria for close contact is face-to-face for 15 minutes. So, obviously, the quarters should be 14 minutes long, and then everyone will be safe.
  15. At this point I'd argue that anyone who is going to be 'okay' during this should be putting their mind towards how to help the very large part of the community that is going to be very, very hard. Got a spare room? Someone you know or a friend of a friend is going to need it because I fear it'll be a pretty slim minority of landlords prepared to offer meaningful amounts of rent relief. Even offering some garage space as storage will help people who need to move but can't afford to secure a place. Got cash on hand? Someone you know or a friend of a friend is going to be facing an actual zero dollars crisis as they can't afford even the costs of ending a lease so have to push through and hope. As for the players... a 20% cut should be the start point of their thinking, not the target. Scaled to the extremity of their pay, of course. More than a millions Australian have already 'taken' well over 20% pay cuts, many already down to just 20% remaining of their pay. All of us, anyone who is doing okay, needs to be actively looking for ways to help. This is a once-in-a-century event, if you can't be generous now, what are you?
  16. It's like watching a lava lamp.
  17. Hmm, I guess my definition of bonkers would be along the lines of 'an exuberant style of being crazy enough to raise eyebrows and have someone assigned to keep an eye on you at family events, but often found entertaining and generally considered non-menacing'. Admit it, you'd embrace that! ?
  18. I swear dieter and I just had a pretty unpleasant spat about this sort of thing yesterday, but, yeah, JSK, you are pretty clearly racist and I'd be perfectly content to see dieter just give you grief every time you post until you pull your finger out or learn it isn't worth the trouble. And you just look like an idjit when you spit nonsense like 'WHO do do something meaningful for once', instead of, you know, being the single organisation with the greatest positive effect on humanity, ever.
  19. At this point I just want to contribute the thought that you are clearly, almost definitionally, bonkers! ???????????????
  20. See if you can focus your thoughts on solidarity with those worst affected, biologically and economically, rather than reaching out so ludicrously for ways to insert a virus into your personal political narrative. The level of ignorance and hate it must take to declare that 'America deserves what's coming' when the impact of both the virus and the measures to control it will hit in massive disproportion those most marginalised and least culpable for the deep injustices of that society. Also, at this stage to the best of my knowledge we don't have a racial breakdown of persons 'acting most like a neanderthal' but I'd love to hear your evidence to support your obnoxious racial profiling. It would be very disappointing to discover that you are just sticky-taping it on in an effort to use racial hatred as a cheap populist mobilisation tool, setting yourself in the same gutter as the creeps you claim to be so different superior to.
  21. So you were asked to move on because you were spectating without entering using a valid ticket... at a free ticket game... where the public had been barred from entering? Am I reading this right?
  22. By September it'll be either business as usual or there will be enough people who have already had the virus to then go along and fill the crowd. ?
  23. Content analysis time! Looking at your post which I responded to - Paragraph 1 - "Look at all that white supremecisting going on over there!" Paragraph 2 - "Andrew Bolt! Peta Credlin! The Australian! Arsonists! Victim blaming! Iraq War!" (You also throw baseless, dare I say it, conspiracy theory level, 'doubt' on the 'wet market' origin of the virus transmission which is the only origin considered to have any credibility by any experts, and is based on a mountain of both epidemiological research and the specific case pattern of this outbreak, and is a consensus shared even the by the Chinese experts who are presumably not in the white supremacist propaganda industry) Paragraph 3 - The media lies. The Prime Minister lies. Unlike all of you I have a brain and don't believe their giant conspiracy. Bad stuff about Russia and China is made up. Paragraph 4 - The live export trade exists therefore we are the worst! Paragraph 5 - There are, like, heaps of Chinese people. Like, totes heaps. So, I don't think I was twisting anything, just summarising. You've made no statements except 'There are people who are awful, therefore I can believe or not, whatever I like, and just run with whatever I feel like'. And that's all fine until you start flailing around demanding that everyone else pretend that obvious realities are actually just the evil bigotry conspiracy going on. Hell, I'd hate to hear your opinion on Iran at the moment. Presumably the world's concerns of a massive cover-up and failure to act effectively are just Islamophobia and an international conspiracy to discredit enemies of America? Because that's the line the Iranian government is peddling, so you may want to consider whether or not you want to help that along. And at this point it is fair to say that every extra minute they even try to keep that story up costs an additional life, and more. Which minute do you want to take credit for?
  24. You'll have to turn to your imagination, BBO. On second thought, that's not a can of worms I want to know has been opened.
