  1. We did well against GWS and despite it being round 1 we managed to defend extremely well. They blitzed us on the transition but we held firm and kept at it. That's the difference between quick teams and inside teams: when the going gets tough and it's close, the inside mids tend to get on top (as ours did yesterday in the final 20 minutes). Our problem yesterday was that we kept playing directly into the hands of the GC, who spread quickly and always had 1-2 players behind the ball in our forward line. Play disciplined football and stay tight defensively and you can beat quick teams. IMO quick teams tend to have no plan B. It's run run run, but if it's a bog, they can't get the space and/or overrun the ball. That's when you beast them. Essendon beat us because they wanted it more. Saints beat us because we tried to play their fast game and simply couldn't. Must learn how to transition our game onto smaller pitches like Etihad.
  2. I wonder if he'd be playing if Lumumba didn't go down? He is far better at than run and dash out of defense than H was, who had terrible peripheral awareness. Hunt seems to sense the opposition and gets the kick handball or kick off when someone's breathing down.
  3. They are as beatable as they have been in the past ten years that we've played them. IMO if we are disciplined and tight defensively as we were yesterday, we can stay with them. For as "frustrating" as yesterday was to watch, it was hard-fought and the pressure was intense. We worked out backsides off and that is telling for a side that normally loses those games (and almost did). The short turnaround will be tough but Hawthorn are vulnerable. I don't mean to understate their greatness but they are beatable.
  4. How did we play today? I saw a hard-fought win against a well-drilled and disciplined defensive display from GC. Good win. If we keep going to the well and defend as well as we did today, we're a chance.
  5. It was a bad day for most talls. Hogan was having a good game until he banged his knee. Lynch was in and out. Day had a day out but so did Frost.
  6. efa He gets super frustrated and his first reaction to not winning the ball in a one-on-one is look back up the field to his teammate and sat "wtf was that" with his body language. Did that 3 or 4 times today. He and Garlett have been very lazy lately.
  7. N.Jones - Just didn't lead Vince - Almost lost game Hogan - In bad form Watts - Never in doubt Petracca - Some scintillating touches Dawes - Finally taking marks Viney - Wasn't that helpful Brayshaw - Second year blues Gawn - Mids left hanging Tyson - Good yet not Stretch - Some nice touches Kent - In and Out Frost - Our best defender T.McDonald - Probably beat Lynch O.McDonald - Nice first half Garlett - Last quarter pressure vandenBerg - Kept in touch Jetta - Standard Jetta game Wagner - Did he play? Harmes - Not damaging enough M.Jones - Had his moments
  8. That final kick was lazy, lazy, lazy. You could tell as soon as Lynch cut it off, Bernie was thinking, "WTF did I just do?" Almost cost us the win.
  9. I've had time to cool down and think about it. 1. Both teams played extremely disciplined defensive games. 2. The pressure from both teams was immense. 3. GC played the game on their terms, and we played into it. 4. Our disposals were deplorable, but we never gave up. 5. Dawes, Vince, Jones and Garlett really let us down today. 6. We worked out butts off to win that game, and did, but the hard work was almost for nothing because of a Vince brainfade. I think the positive to come out of this is that we won that on the back of the young brigade. Petracca, Tyson, Hunt and Frost all lifted another gear in the last and kept us in it. Watts was a pest all day and may snag the three votes on the back of winning the game.
  10. HUGE asterix next to Roos tenure. Can't get a full strength side to beat a team ravaged by injuries at the end of his third year. Major indictement on his time at the club. HUGE.
  11. Roos has been out coached again. They have 2 blokes standing behind the ball, alone.
  12. No movement. No urgency. We don't deserve to win.
  13. Roos being outcoached. No plan b for the extra defender.
  14. Our mids aren't working hard enough. Getting beaten by a second-tier outfit. Complacency. It's the Essendon game 2.0.
  15. Very obvious what they're doing. 2 extra defenders. Given up trying to beat us on the run and in a shootout because they won't win the ball enough. They're conjesting the pill and winning the contested pill in our forward line and banking on going forward for a Lynch mark. We are playing into their hands. We overuse the ball and give them a chance to flood. We are allowing them to play the game on their terms. We need to run harder and attack their weakness. Miller is beating Jones. Gawn's ruck dominance isn't enough. Our mids are letting us down around stoppages.
  16. Dawes! Re-sign him. We are dominating around the ground but overusing it and overworking ourselves. We make kicking goals look like splitting an atom with a butter knife.
