Disappointed with both the team urgency and Goodwin's coaching this past two weeks. A finals spot is on the line. This is awful.
-
We won't get close. GWS will play in second gear and still win from here. Our defensive accountability is pathetic.
-
Goodwin: "We played too quick into the breeze." Jesus Hey Christ.

No chance. The Giants pressure is scary Nothing to do with the wind. Most of their goals came within striking distance. They absolutely dominated around the ball and in transition. We must keep the losing margin below 30 points. We can't afford much of a percentage drop. Lose by 10 goals and imo our season is finished.

That's our season summed up in a quarter: hope, potential, looks good, and then brought down back to Earth. I don't really care if they lose today. Fact is that it shouldn't matter because we should have taken care of North last week. We didn't, so now it stands that we're just making up the numbers.

A loss today was to be seen. The loss last week stands as the nail in the coffin. Wheels have fallen off unfortunately.

I'm gobsmacked. But not surprised. Finals won't happen this year.

Come on, Cats. Gees. In the words of John Connor: "Not good...not good!"

Prestia has actually been destroyed by leg injuries. Tippett I find to be extremely one dimensional but Prestia is an extremely hard trainer who just can't catch a break. I smell Trengove 2.0 with him unfortunately.

Good post. Our forward pressure has been okay but our entries have been shocking and the opposition has been reading us extremely well in most games since the Bulldogs game. Although our Port game I thought was very good. We attacked superbly in the first half but people underrate Port and think we should have won by 100 points, but Port tightened up defensively and upped the annte offensively. We held up across the ground extremely well but it shows how important it is to score highly and often to get a leg up. Defensively I think we're very good despite what some here think, structurally it's arguably our most coherent and consistent part of the team. Our mids and half forwards particularly Watts need to step up. ANB and Garlett are playing their roles. Stats show their pressure acts are elite. We need more cohesion going forward.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - COREY MAYNARD
praha replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
“I jumped on a plane back to Boston and met up with some friends and then had a month in America, trying to get my mind around what I wanted to do." So basically he drank and smoked pot for a month lol Marijuana: The wonder drug. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - COREY MAYNARD

WHAT YEAR IS IT -
Nature of the club I reckon. Poor rehab and training facilities. Our best players always seemed injured. Jakovich goes out with a bad back and then retires...comes back for the Bulldogs 12 months later. Granted not the same player, and also he was a lazy trainer, but if he were at say a West Coast, he'd have come back at full strength and played 200 games. We were still an amateur club up until a few years ago. And by amateur I mean we struggled to make the transition from VFL to AFL. Oliver imo is the best talent we've had in my time following the club. Had he been at Melbourne in the 90s he'd be out every second week with hamstring problems.
-
Tingay's 94 was very good, not elite, but close. I think he was AA that year. And repped Victoria. What accident are you referring to? I was young when he started so don't quite remember
-
He wasn't the only one that said that. A few of the Storm players subtlety hinted at it. This was during the early Neeld year/s.

"A lot of MFCSS on this page, I sense" Someone needs to brush up on their Yodaisms
-
Considering the sort of game it was, and with that last quarter when North got on top of the stoppages, it's a rather telling statistics. Final game in Melbourne colours unfortunately.
-
Yep people calling for him to be dumped after last week, which is rubbish. Make no mistake, with our lack of a KPF for most of the year, that we've been able to score so well (mostly) demands that we applaud the work that both Garlett and ANB do. Both doing exactly what we expect of small forwards: PRESSURE! That we have two ranked so highly shows we are extremely well placed. A healthy and performing Hogan, a roaming Watts, and hopefully a maturing Weeds makes for a very potent and dangerous forward line. We just need our mids to score more. Tyson and Oliver need to hit the scoreboard more.

Finey is really the only thing worth listening to. The rest is made up of sports odds and outrageous opinions that are out.of touch with the common footy public.
-
That he's played 8 games is imo testament to his character. Suspension, father's death, cancer. That trifecta may have knocked anyone else out for the season. He is a great kid with a great head on his shoulders. He'll bounce back.

Melbournes record in the past three years
praha replied to Bobby McKenzie's topic in Melbourne Demons
Last time we beat Sydney was 2010. Before then we havn't beaten them since 2006 (may be earlier than that). So the record is very poor. Granted we've broken a lot of records but Carlton, Saints, Freo, Hawks have the wood over us, only 1-2 wins in the past decade. The only teams outside of the expansion clubs that we appear to have the wood over are Essendon and Richmond (excluding round 2, 2013, of course). -
Why? It would mean they've been the best and FAIREST player in the league. And IMO players care less about the Brownlow than the media and general public. It's not really a reflection of peer recognition. Player Association awards are probably held higher among playing groups. Danger could have easily pushed to appeal the suspension but the risk of an extra week and damaging his team's home finals chances greatly outweights the potential of winning an award based almost entirely on umpire bias.
-
It's still important to acknowledge the past though especially when one club is celebrating its success over you. There's no way Clarkson didn't bring up Geelongs wood over Hawthorn before they met in the prelim a few years back. We can say the past is irrelevant and broadly it is but specifically on how the opponent view us, it would have given them extra incentive to win, to maintain the success over the club. Why wouldn't you use the fact North has bullied us for a decade as extra motivation? I just don't understand the logic. It's also condescending to suggest it's irrelevant. It's actually not. Perception means everything, really, and the North and league view the 17 straight losses as a reflection of our inability to match it against a club that knows it can beat us.
-
Would TMAC really have made a difference? Ultimately we wanted to play on our terms and once Hogan went down we needed Tom forward. Brown has two shots on goal when out marking 3-4 Melbourne defenders. That says it all really. And it was more so our ineptness going forward in the 4th that lost it for us, not Brown beating our defenders.
