  1. Reading this what does anyone think the chances of Hughes being promoted in the not too distant future. Maybe for Jetta. I have not seen him play so I don't know if he is physically ready yet for AFL. Like the fact that he kicked an impossible goal. I haven't seen too much of that lately.
  2. OK we're not going to win but is'nt that what we expected in this year of development. If we double up on SON OF GOD then one of his friends will just smash us. I would like to see Bailey again use one on one football and hopefully Geelong play along with us and our young boys can learn by watching the current masters play. To be beaten is not a bad thing at the moment. It is what they learn by how they were beaten is more important in the long term. Even Stan Alves said yesterday that Melbourne members should forget the first half and look at what they achieved in the second half by playing one on one. He believed that the signs were there for the Club and that persistence is required for the rest of the year. That goes for the supporters as well. I too am looking forward to next week. I know we will be beaten but I go now to watch the improvement of the young boys because it is those boys who will carry us into a premiership in the near future. Hard decisions have to be made about those players who don't have the ability to improve and give others a chance to be exposed that do have the skills ie Geelong, Hawthorn.
  3. They were even talking about Newton's attitude on SEN today - lack of passion, lack of commitment - they can see it, we can see it why can't bails. DROP HIM
  4. 6. Davey 5. Moloney 4. Frawley 3. Martin 2. Pettard 1. McLean
  5. He probably will have a blinder tomorrow!! Look how we turned Col around (or at least half round)
  6. Buy her a membership for Mothers Day (and some flowers)!!
  7. You play as a team and not just one player is going to win games. I think you underestimate the things he does that don't get the recognition. It was obvious on Sunday that he lacks confidence in his kicking but his marking is getting back to what it was a couple of years ago when he was being touted as a future leader of the club. He is giving his heart and soul out there. Watch him when someone else kicks a goal then watch Newton. I can't remember who it was maybe Jetta who kicked a great goal and everyone ran up to him - not sulky Newton. He provides leadership and inspiration. He is showing the young guys out there that anything is possible ie Pettard mark in forward pocket. That's what we need not some show pony like you know who.
  8. Surfa, asked the question on a another thread but we are coming up to watch the Dees at the Gabba. Before I book seats is there any specific area that Melbourne supporters will be. Don't want to sit with the enemy!
  9. Wet n Wild AND a "Gentlemens Club" what more could you ask for !!!!!! Before I book my seats at the GABBA can anyone tell me where the Melbourne supporters will sit at the Brisbane game??
  10. They were waiting for Bennell and Jetta to come over to lead the players. I thought Bennell and Jetta showed a lot of what we can expect in the next couple of years from them - what flair and dash. Remember the feeling we used to have when Aaron first played. Well that feeling was there again today with both Bennell and Jetta.
  11. I love his enthusiasm. Instead of just walking off before the start of the game with other benchwarmers Jones went back to the melbourne boys in a huddle and was pumping them up. You can just feel his passion even from the stands. When he was interviewed after the game he spoke of the team as winners not just his game. Red and blue pumps thru his veins.
  12. I like this thought thread. What about past players to mentor the younger players or even the mid level players during this time of "rebuilding". It must be hard bringing yourself up week in week out when you are losing every week so bring in players to keep reminding the young kids that their time will come etc etc. Garry Lyon, Neita,Schwarta, A.MCd, Greg Wells etc. Also last year or a couple of years ago players rang up those members who hadn't renewed their memberships. I must admit I got a call and it was an immediate impetus to renew and also great to talk to the player. Are we doing this again. I know another club is doing it but no harm in us doing it as well. whats a few phone calls!!!
  13. The only issue I have is don't compare our culture with Saints. Surely not as "bogan".........................
  14. What makes it worse is when he does bag MFC and Gerard Healy just sits there and lets him. For instance tonight on AW DWAYNE made a comment that it was a waste to even comment about Melbourne at the moment. A deathly silence from Gerard. What is Gerard's relationship with Melbourne? Does anyone know?
  15. Dangerous - great run down - onforward it to DB!!
  16. Did anyone listen to Gary Lyon last night re CS - more or less said his time was limited
  17. Give him a go - at least to half way. I can barely bring myself to say it but AAAGH what about BUCKLEY. His comments and reading of the game seem outstanding!! <_<
  18. Morton needs the awareness coach that Storm had during the week. Come to think of it but maybe Brucey and Mclean could do with it aw well.
  19. I was glad that we didn't totally capitulate in the last quarter like we would have last year early in the season. Even though obviously Port slacked off a bit in the last we still had some triers. I was really pleased with Meesens hit outs. He has improved since NAB Cup days. Anyone else with an opinion on Meesen because we have all been fairly hard on him for weeks!!
