Why they don't bother??

We have 5 people that have coached at senior level in our club. Neeld, Craig, Connolly, Rawlings and Viney. We have enough coaching nous you would think. If it is still the players sulking about 186 or the Andrews report or whatever then we have to get rid of them. Simple, If you dont run, chase, tackle, harass you are toast. There can be no other way. Still not happy with the boys club environment though, The admin has a lot to answer for. And this won't be popular to say but when we started making allowances for Liam Jurrah - missed training sessions, weeks off etc we contributed to the cultural problem Too much workload carried by too few.

No-one can tell me that we don't have enough coaching nous at the club. The problem lies in the fact that this club is fractured. It has been for some years. The Andrews report has never been revealed and I suspect much of the criticism contained in that report will go close to revealing where the problem lays. The MFC is a boys club. But I'm not sure we can lay the blame squarely at the coaching staff.

That stuff is very Ron Barassi c1981. For a start that team meeting is about 30mins before they hit the ground. Fire and brimstone doesn't work any more. Partic with Gen x, Y or whoever. And it certainly doesn't work 40mins before the first bounce. But yes it was very uninspiring.

I am an AD critic but he attacked the ball early on. Took some heat and did OK. Haven't seen that from him for a long time.

Royal is useless and has never produced a decent line in any team. Neeld was COllingwoods mid coach so he should know about mids.

He was the worst on the field. Because he didn't try. Gillies was possibly worse but he tried - he is just no good. And Neeld did move Watts from defence to attack. To man up on Fletcher. Sadly his attack on the footy was non-existent and jogged around all night looking totally lost. Will be the last game he plays for us for at least 5 weeks. And i would be bothered if he never played again.

Don't re-write history. I don't like Schwab but he was not responsible for creating the salary cap breach. It was there when he got here. Most clubs were doing it. Schwab failed to report it to the AFL. Gutnick on the other hand squealed directly to the AFL when he found out. Didn't go to the Board or speak to anyone within the club but went straight to the AFL hoping to get leniency. Gutnick is the villain here IMO.

Its not unusual for gun juniors to have no defensive skills. Most gun kids play up fwd or in the midfield. They never need to develop defensive skills at junior level as they are so good. Once they get to the AFL they are found out defensively. Hence the need to develop that side of their game. That said, ours have never been able to develop generally and the desire and hardness can't be taught. Sadly BP didn't recruit for that.

I get annoyed to but its usually because they can't hear them. However it is no excuse They should be aware that umps are calling ply on much quicker and be prepared. Re the smothers it is a klller. Lack of awareness is astounding but its also a factor of the players up the ground not providing options. And on the rare occasions we do they lead is not 'honoured' Hence players stop doing it. Move it quick. Dont think. I get sick of seeing other teams chip short kicks to a player running into space. We never do it and its why our stats are so appalling. It breaks up opp'n structures and keeps retention of the ball. Footy 101. I have a couple of others to go with yours. 1. The Harry O'Brien trick of shepherding the payer on the mark. We can't get this basic concept particularly on kick ins. 2. Kick ins. Our players stand about 15m off the goal line, We are allowed to stand 5m from the goal line. Makes a big difference. And while we are at it. 3. The simple task of of closing space in the fwd 50 We allow a 'hole' to be created for an opp player to run into and take a simple mark 4. A tall players standing on the goal line when a player is kicking from 50m or thereabouts. Der. How basic is that. 5. No player in the centre square set up on the defensive side. we do it all day. 6. Allowing Opp'n full backs to kick a short on to the pocket. What is up with that?? Never understood why we can't stop that

I goot a message for Jack W which is the same message for all our players. ATTACK THE FOOTY!!!!!!!! Too little left to too few. Jack W lamenting the lack of senior players to take charge is both true and sad. We haven't had leaders since Neita and Junior who can actually get the pill and do something with it. And Jack W should step up and fill it himself. End of story.
