GRAND FINAL: Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs
I keep saying that Keath has done his hammy TWICE since round 19. He won't be able to push very hard on that leg. As for Stef, he will basically be a decoy with English playing fwd to try and stretch our defence.

Gary Pert on SEN (16/9/21)
Pretty sure Pert was CEO at Collingwood when they lost $1.5m having gone large on 'Side-by-side' merchandise anticipating a GF win. Hopefully he has learnt some lessons.

Jake Melksham
He was brought in specifically to play on McGovern and did a very good job. Not sure if that role is enough to keep him tho...

Sam Weideman re-signs until 2023
Not sure you can '"surpassed" him. Pretty sure I read that Tommo had only been beaten once in a one on one contest since being moved back Nonetheless Tommo's fitness and endurance means that he can be played in a number of positions. Petty has already demonstrated he can do that as well. And people shoudn't forget we have been blessed with few injuries so have spare capacity as it were is a good thing. We are lucky to be in such as spot which is why if Weideman goes its not the end of the world.

Why is everybody assuming Jones is retiring? Highly likely he won't get a contract at Melbourne but its possible he may play on...

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JAKE BOWEY
It's the same modset that saw Sam Mitchel go through the 2000 draft I think and langish at Box Hill before being taken with a late-ish in 2001. Pidgeon-holed as too short Moneyball springs to mind...

Jason Taylor Re-Signs on Long Term Deal (2021 Thread)
With 9 of our regulars 22 and under AND some talent that hasn't yet debuted we have created a springboard for a sustainable tilt at success. Recruiting like Geelong rarely works altho it has them up there for a long period. I reckon they would trade all those finals appearances for one more flag. You could argue hawthorn tried it and succeeded to a certain extent but its an awfully big fall if you get it wrong. Brisbane tried in 2004 as well going for a 4 peat - arguably worth trying with a reduced ageing list. West Coast look like they are at the cross roads and could easily drop away sharply. Collingwood has no cap space and no draft picks so could be in trouble as well. Its a fine balancing act and ever since they brought in trading future picks its been a bit of a lottery as to how that has worked out. We shouldnt be cocky but I think we are in safe hands..
